    the A113 is actually a nod to a classroom at California Institute of Arts. it was the classroom for first year graphic design and character animation students. a lot of the animators at Pixar and Disney (and several other well-known studios) discovered and mastered their craft in that classroom, so basically the A113 is just a friendly nod to one another, showing that they wouldn't be where the are today if it hadn't have been for A113

    My great grandfather worked in Tampa real estate when Disney bought the Disney World property. A rumor actually did circulate about a large secret project in Orlando, which at the time was humid, land locked, undesirable marsh. My great grandfather and his brother caught wind of the rumor and decided to take a chance and dump their savings into a couple hundred acres right next to what would become Disney World about a year later. It ended up being one of the best decisions they ever made, as their hunch investment quickly skyrocketed in value and they and some of my other family ended up working to develop the suburb/hotel area outside Disney

      @aj32769 2 года назад +2

      That’s insane

    • @maximumeffort78
      @maximumeffort78 Год назад +7

      Even better perspective, in 1995 I was 17 and had graduated HS and tradeschool concurrently. My first year income was about 45K/yr+tips. I was a local Orange County resident, living just a bit always in Huntington Beach, and with your DL and a secondary proof of address (utility bill), a discount was given-only for OC residents. Park admission was only 15.00 and I *think* parking was 3.00! General admission was either 25.00 or 30.00, I can’t remember which. This background is important to show the disparity now.
      I’ve been forced to medically retire, far too early, 2 years ago. However, even as a clinician with a 6 figure income and very little debt, just covering the cost of living, my medical needs to keep me able to work (ironically meeting others’ medical needs lol), and providing well for my children: healthy foods, quality clothing, extracurriculars, other affordable family adventures in nature particularly, and meeting additional needs for my youngest that are not mine to disclose. Costs were high while local to SoCal and even after leaving CA 7 years ago; my 19 year old has NEVER been to Disneyland and my 24 year old has gone once. The cost for a family of 4, single park/single day alone is astronomical! Forget double day/ dual park tickets, and don’t forget parking!!!! Also the annual memberships are EXTREMELY costly, so much so there is a monthly payment plan! Last checked was 10ish years ago, I cannot imagine it now! You can bring extra guests, but each parent would need a pass in case the other wasn’t able to go. There are also A LOT of blackout dates for pass holders.
      As mentioned, my oldest has been once, but he was very young and doesn’t remember. On that trip, we were given the once in a lifetime experience of being the guests of a member of Club 33 (AKA The Disney 500 Club as there are approximately only 500 members in entirety, it is that exclusive). We had a wonderful brunch in Club 33’s French restaurant. The rest sow as gorgeous, as was our meal, but I honestly thought it would be different. I thought it would hold “Disney magic” and it was not unlike any other extremely high end restaurant, I don’t believe it holds even a single Michelin Star, shockingly! I don’t say this to take away the luxury, it just wasn’t what was expected, I feel very honored to have had the experience! ❤ We also did not have to pay admission and received top class care throughout the day!

    The Grimm children's tales were not originally for children. They were metaphor's of people's lives back then for adults. They were asked to change them to make them less horrifying and at first they didn't want to, but eventually they had to so it was less inappropriate. Then Disney changed them completely throughout the years to be more kid friendly. Same goes for the book The Little Prince, it is not a children's story. The author himself says it at the beginning of the book. It is actually a story for adults who have forgotten their inner children throughout the years.

      not only the original fairytales, but the earliy disney movies too were not neccessarily targeted towards kids. Walt himself said his movies are supposed for anyone, if 9 years old or 99. In fact, more adults went to movie theaters back then than kids. I love Josh and Kendall, but it kinda bothered me that they kept refering to those movies as "kids" movies. Also what they said about Fantasia.

    • @Em_laqueb

    • @jackiearnolds
      @jackiearnolds 2 года назад +3

      Most stories were based on folklore, legends and tales from places around Europe, specially Germany, and it's hard to say for sure how they where originally because, since they were only spoken stories, there were some differences in versions and were on top of that altered by the people writing them. Child friendly or not, they were used mostly as cautionary tales of what happens when you disobey and misbehave, such as Little Red Riding Hood and were very gruesome to really install fear on their minds. Pinocchio is probably the best example I can think. Since it was a written novel and not a spoken story, we have the original version and, even though it was written for kids, it was certainly written to scare then into behaving.

    Since the time when I was an English major in college, I've studied mythology and folklore, and fairy tales were designed to warn little kids of stranger danger and teach lots of other important lessons. This is what I learned in sociology in college, and what I teach as a sociology teacher: The fairy tales were scary back in the day because the theory was that you needed to scare children into complying with societal rules. It was believed that children need to learn whatever the “lesson” of the story is supposed to be, and be shown dire consequences of not complying.
    If you notice, strong, independent women are almost always a witch or villain. That is to teach little girls to remain submissive. The submissive female character who needs to be saved is usually the “winner” of the story.
    Disney has been trying (very slowly) to correct these messages in recent and future works.

    I am listening on spotify right now and I had to come here to correct/clarify a bit from the first part when you guys mentioned Oswald! (He's my favorite classic cartoon ♡) So Oswald was the first creation, and he was a success for some time before Disney went to his distributors and asked for a raise. They said no, and that they were cutting his pay instead, also they owned the rights to the character. So he said "screw that" basically and made Mickey to replace Oswald, and made sure to maintain his rights to the character. Oswald was lost to Disney until 2006, when the company got the rights after buying an asset from another company (can't remember). So now Oswald lives in DCA and is back home where he belongs ♡

Back then children were alone sooo much more, mainly in the villages, around nature, animals, lakes rivers… elders would tell the stories to scare kids away from danger. One my dad remembers the most, was about a water spirit that drowned little children, ofc the story had beautiful parts and a good ending.
    But also any kid that heard that one, for sure didn’t go near the deep water, therefor preventing children from drowning in real life.

    Cartoons were not originally designed for children, they were for adult men. Betty Boop is the most classic example.
    That is why there are so many adult themes. The marketing for children did not really take hold until after WWII.

    I have lived near Walt Disney World almost my entire life and I have several friends and family members who have worked or currently work there. I can say that I don't know one person upset about the bill DeSantis signed. Because of the Reedy Creek sovereignty, any income brought in on Disney property, beit at the parks or hotels or food, does not go back into Florida's state revenue. They are exempt from state taxes, etc. No other theme park has that exemption. They should pay too. Their are several really really horrible things that surround Disney; the man and organization. I have young children and would never take them there... and I worked there when I was younger and have been no less thana 50 times when I was younger. But, now that I know what I know, I do not support them at all. Great show!

Its nothing more than to appeal to adults as well. The scenes that seem way too grown up for young ones is because little kids just are not gonna understand the actual meanings and adults will get it. Its just that simple!

    As a writer myself it’s admirable that the WDC have maintained an extremely high standard in storytelling and, of course, animation. The older movies may seem “trippy” but in storytelling they’re pure fantasy and something we won’t see again (unfortunately). A company as powerful as this have not got there on good ol’ family values alone, for anyone who has been to WDW will testify that they spent a small fortune for the privilege. That aside, I wonder if Walt would be impressed by Disneys expansion or as a “futurist” it was all part of the grand plan. Conspiracies aside, he was the forerunner of animation and a standard many aim for today, and possibly won’t achieve. He gave everything for his dream.

    As an early 80s baby I can attest to never seeing any of the things adults now claim to see. I find it hard that a child would point out the word sex in the Lion King example from that many years ago. I'm not sure what subliminal messages they would be trying to send because I was pretty impervious to anything relating to sex until it was explained to me when I was older. Then as a young adult, possibly my early 20s, I was told about the sexual innuendos that were put in these movies and, to me, I think it's just people reaching. Society as a whole tries to sexualize everything they can. Now, if they are doing that then I find it to be disturbing. But I can attest to the fact it was completely overlooked by my friends and me as children. Even if we subconsciously saw it we sure didn't know what it was we were looking at because we were naive to their meaning or representation.

When she arrived at the hospital she was already 10cm dilated & less than an hour later she gave birth naturally to Twin B (Kai) weighing 3lb 4oz.
    Twin A was adamant he wanted to stay put so she had to be rushed to theatre with a general anaesthetic where Twin A (Lucas) was delivered weighing 3lb 6oz. Both Mum & twins are doing really well. Absolutely. The concept of childhood is a fairly new concept and Disney is not the only one who was making family movies with adult themes at the time. Disney just doesn't let anything go.

    Oswald!!! The Lucky Rabbit! As soon as I found out he existed and who created him and stuff, he was instantly my favorite. At one point, I even made a paper mache head of his head in an art camp thing I went to for a week. It was a big head. And oh boy do I miss that head. RIP Oswald the Lucky Head

    You didn’t have to announce PSs return. My son turns on the same episode each night at bedtime…he was so excited to see a new episode. TY for helping my kiddo unwind and learn.

    So sorry for your loss, Josh. But also want to thank you for bringing back Planet Sleep! I have been listening to reruns to get to sleep so seeing new ones made my year! 💜

    youtube wants its own streaming service, which makes me wonder how they will pull that off since EVERYTHING we watch regardless of genre has a cuss word and other so called "taboo" bs. Thank yall for your hard work and stay safe and healthy.
