In my opinion, the R7 7700x should have been a 10 core chip and the R5 7600x should have been an 8 core chip. AMD should have also reintroduced a Ryzen 3 as a budget 6 core chip option at around $200. Honestly, $300 for a 6 core CPU in 2022 is absolutely ridiculous. Especially when factoring in AM5 motherboard and DDR5 prices.

Intel was selling an 8 core CPU for nearly $600 just last year (i9-11900K). With the 8 core CCD design in Zen 4, a 10 core CPU would have 2 CCDs which would only increase latency. At the end of the day overall performance is more important than core count. 6 Zen 4 cores (7600X) is equal to 8 Zen 3 cores (5800X). 8 Zen 4 cores (7700X) is equal to 12 Zen 2 cores (3900X) in multi core work but much much faster in single core and it even beats the 5900X in a few applications (like Premiere, Photoshop, Microsoft Office apps) and at a lower price. Zen 5 is rumored to have a completely new architecture and core count increase while Zen 4 was basically Zen 3 with more L2 cache, an iGPU with encoding, and more power at the socket (obviously there are more improvements but it wasn't a complete redesign like Zen 5 should be).
AM5 motherboard prices do need to drop which is why we're starting to see inexpensive CPU/MB bundles now. DDR5 prices are dropping everyday, a lot faster than DDR4 did when it came out. At this point midrange DDR5-5600 is the same price as high end DDR4. The 64GB DDR4 RAM kit (G. Skill Trident Z Neo) I was planning for an AM4 build is roughly the same price as 64GB of G. Skill Flare X5 DDR5 ($309 vs. $319). DDR5 prices have literally been cut in half since 2022 started.

I already own an AM4 System so I'll get a 5800X3D instead of these. Still good performance but the prices of AM5 Motherboards and DDR5 Ram combined with the $300 USD price of the 7600X turn me off a bit. Plus I'm interested to see how the potential X3D AM5 chips will perform. Excellent job Jarrod!

I think gamers would benefit by adopting the AM5 Platform early. Just like those who invested in 1st Gen Ryzen were able to go from a 1600x to a 3600x and now probably game on a 5800x3d that drop in upgrade is cheaper in the long run. Think about it, you’re building an abandoned system so in 3-5 years you’ll still have to spend money to dump the whole rig and get a whole new pc again. You can build a am5 platform now and still be running the machine in 5 years

    • @MundoTheTowo

@@MundoTheTowo I disagree specifically because RAM and motherboards are soooo expensive. As we've seen from testing, there are some pretty nice gains to be had from buying better RAM, but the problem is that they have premium pricing. If you're able to wait even 6 months, you could be saving hundreds of dollars on motherboard, CPU, and RAM prices. After all, saving even $50 on each of the aforementioned items, that's $150 saved in your system. And buying in early with cheapo RAM only to upgrade down the road means you're paying twice to do it right. Same thing with motherboards: why get a crappy VRM and audio setup when you can allow competition to work to your advantage to drive prices down?
And if you're on AM4 but want to go AM5, just try to wait. Or buy a 5600X to hold you over because you're really not losing that much compared to a 5800X3D at 2/3 the cost (or even less used. I've seen them going for $150-160, which you could probably resell it damn near that even in half a year).

Great video 👍 I must say though, that not everyone is into gaming. One don't just buy or build a PC for gaming, but for both (gaming and productivity).
AM5 is quite expensive at the moment and they won't really change their pricing now unless Intel bomb the market with dirt cheap chips that will draw gamers, streamers, content creators and other heavy users. Only then AMD will maybe, a big maybe drop their prices on AM5 mobos and cpus.
I had a Ryzen 5 5600X setup and that cpu was a beast, but because I am gaming and streaming from a single PC, I decided to sell it and upgrade to AM5. Still fighting with myself now as I already ordered both the Ryzen 5 7600X Upgrade Kit and Ryzen 7 7700X Upgrade Kit but I am still deciding which one I should keep or return for a refund.
Seeing that both performance are almost identical but the 7 7700X performs 31% better in games plus it will be an ideal cpu not only for gaming, but for streaming as well due to the extra 2 Cores. I personally never had a Ryzen 7 cpu before and I already experienced the Ryzen 5 5600X that only comes with 6C/12T but performed very well.
Having a look at your video, I decided to give the Ryzen 7 7700X a chance due to the extra 2 cores that will help me running more apps simultaneously on my single pc setup.
Thanks for this video. Will let you know if like my new Ryzen 7 7700X setup or not...or should I rather return that too and rather upgrade to a Ryzen 9 7900X Upgrade Kit.
Dropped you a like 👍 and also subbed bro 😉

Nice and important comparison. Sadly overemphasing on multicore benchmarks has become an annoying tradition of hardware comparisons. It's actually ironic that in this video you have proven yourself, that core counts higher than the (now standard) 6 cores are utterley useless for 99% of users and, yet, you still priorize showing the multicore related benchmarks first as if they where most important ;)
I mean: content creators are less than 0.1% of people still buying grown PCs... there's no reason to make 8 cores or even more 'look good' by showing Cinebench, Blender and so on at first and even explaining there theoretically higher efficiency which isn't true for all the 99.9% who are no content creators.
And I don't think this will change soon, considering that it has taken more than 10 years from the release of the first quad core CPUs until a halfway significant amount of games actually could make use of more than two cores.
It'S a bit similar to the 1080p vs- 1440p vs. 4K discrepancy - RUclipsrs with their endless money and full blown PCs think that the higher resolutions where standard - while the Steam surves still shows 1080 at about 60% of all gamers' homes. And there even are some channels thinking of ditching 1080p, because it was 'outdated' and not having any relevance with modern GPUs all being able to run 1080p fast enough all the time - BUT: That's actually the matter of fact that people need to see, instead of making them believe they alwyays needed the more and more advanced and more and more expensive new stuff .. without any decent reason.
Making people buy more expsnesive stuff than they actullay need also supports GPU vendors with their ridiculous pricing since a few years..
So I think it's a very important topic and that RUclipsrs have to show some responsibility here, by keeping their benchmakrs, presentaion and focus realistic.
The RUclips tech-channels adhering to this reality would give their overall image more seriousness.
Well, of course this was an general rant, not utterly targetted at you spexcifically ;)
The only thing I would critiizeabout your vides is the order of presenting benchmarks - the games clearly belong before the multicore preffering benchmarks, especially in a video that's directly targetted at this topic, as said above.
So: Paying attention to a more general audience related focus would be a nice improvement!
    :)

It would have been nice for you to included ray tracing in the game testing with the 4090.
The same is also going to be true with UE5 titles that have a bit of lighting effects. It puts a heavier load on the CPU, and these are multi-threaded loads. These are the situations where the 7600X may be pushed near 100%, ray tracing on a 4090 and UE5 based titles on a 4090. It will still be game dependent, but that's what I certainly wanted to see.

Yeah I'm really confused because I was watching two different videos that you have. On the last video with the ryzen 5's compared you said that the ryzen 5 7600x, achieve the total of 199 FPS. On warzone. And in this video you're saying that the ryzen 5 7600x got 303 at 1440p ?? So I mean which one is it... ?? Over 100fps is a pretty large jump.

Both are really good options for gaming and light productivity... but nobody should buy them because of the overall platform price which is atrocious at the moment... the only way for these parts to be recommended is for the 6 core to cost 189$ and the 8 core 289$, mobos at the range of 120$-150$ and ddr5 to drop even more... then it will be a considerable option... the only CPU that's a good choice from AMD right now is the ryzen 9 7950x... because of its 16 p cores compare to the i9 13900k 8 p cores and 16 e cores... it wins in productivity overall, it consumes less power, it doesn't thermal throttle and it has similar performance in gaming... other that that, all the other recommendations should go to Intel... AMD forgot to release something affordable for the lower budget market apparently... i hope they will rectify that early next year, when the new i3 and locked i5 will dominate the market because of their aggressive pricing...

    • @vaggeliskosiatzis5487
      @vaggeliskosiatzis5487 Год назад

@Garrus Vakarian i don't know if your price incudes taxes but in Sweden were i live... and i5 + same Z790 mobo costs 1090 CAD and the ryzen setup with the B650 version of mobo 1220 CAD... but on Intel you could buy a much cheaper b660 or z690 DDR4 board and you save even more money... i stand by my original comment... AMD's best offer right now is the 7950x now and they don't care in the slightest about budget builders...

    • @vaggeliskosiatzis5487
      @vaggeliskosiatzis5487 Год назад

@Garrus Vakarian i always look for really good deals on Facebook market and similar Swedish markets... i have an i7 12700k that i bought brand new from facebook market for 260 CAD and an RTX 3090 brand new for 740 CAD... for now i'm ok in terms of performance... but i saw a ryzen 9 7950x for 740 CAD on a similar facebook market and i'm trying to save 100 bucks off, that would be and amazing price for Swedish standards... i always look for the deal i don't care about the brand... the only hardware that i would avoid is Intel ARC gpus for now no matter how cheap they are... other than that whatever makes the most sense in terms of price/performance...

This has been bothering me for some time, and it isn't just about this video.
I don't know how reasonable it is, but I desperately wish all the CPU/GPU comparisons would stop using nothing but fidelity-obsessed AAA games (and some e-sports). Of course everything is GPU-limited, then! But for simulation games, or indie games with more elaborate mechanics, the CPU might actually matter. Maybe even the RAM.
Sure, someone playing Battlefield xX69Xx Enhanced Edition will see minimal gains from faster CPU or RAM, and they'd be better off buying a bigger GPU. Because the CPU doesn't matter *for graphics.* It feels like useless information most of the time.
Most CPU gaming comparisons could be boiled down to "it doesn't matter, buy bigger GPU." Lead with that disclaimer, then test some games that might actually use the CPU and provide some interesting and useful information! Similarly, I want to see if some games *aren't* primarily GPU-limited in GPU comparisons!
"This cheaper GPU is great for 1080p" would make it inadequate for my displays. But is that just because the article assumes I need another 6GB of VRAM to store the 8k textures in the latest semi-interactive movie? Who knows?!
Rant over. For now. Not this video's fault for following the current standard and doing it well.

To be honest, if you don't have cash to go for 7700X, you should take 5800X3D (or any lower, but still 5'th gen) and go on older & cheaper, as you can squeeze way more bang for buck this way. (or intel 12/13 gen, as they are very similar price to performance as 7'th gen AMD, older than 12 intel sucks)
7600 is basically only a stop gap, for people who want to be ready for 3D parts, that will be up to +50% power. That's the only reason to pick 7600 over any 5000 series.
It's also a good idea to have a spare cpu core or two, as I don't know any people who consciously pick their machines, and don't multitask. If you're reading this comment, you want more cores than your previous build, and spending ~3% cost of whole change to get ~20% faster is IMHO worth it.
