- Matt Nagy declared last week that Andy Dalton would start for the Chicago Bears over Justin Fields before the rookie impressed in the team’s preseason finale. Now Chicago will prepare for its Week 1 matchup against the Rams, and Fields will actually run the scout team offense in practice. What's wrong with a qb backing up his first year? Its almost like teams feel forced to play a rookie early as possible or you look bad for drafting him in 1st round. I see absolutely nothing wrong with letting rookie QBs watch and learn
It varies from team to team. But i dont know if you have a major drop off at qb if fields starts which could help get him experience.
You get experience by playing,especially if you move up to draft a guy that means your starter isn't it

How does being a backup for a year help learn the game speed? You aren’t getting game speed in practice. That only comes from playing games. The benefits to sitting a year are learning the system and just learning things from the qb you’re backing up

That's what you would do according to your way of seeing things I believe fans everywhere want to see Fields against the Rams, not Dalton who had his chance it's Fields time now period and a few weeks and a few losses won't make things any better for him.

I'm not a Bears fan but I'm rooting for Justin Fields. Kid has a good head on his shoulders and he looked good in preseason. I hope he sits a couple games to learn a little bit more before he starts.

It depends on the team situation, Chargers are a lot more talented than Chicago. Chicago's offensive line is iffy, they'll it a few weeks before putting Fields in

I'm sorry but Shannon continues to just beat Skip at every turn. Shannon is such a huge part of whatever success this show enjoys. The man is a quick learner and he's got this. I really enjoy listening to his analysis of all sports related subjects and I've been listening to and watching these type of shows on both radio and Tv for decades. Kudos to you Shannon .

I agree with Shay, as sad as it is im letting Andy take those two monsterous D-Lines in the forst 3 weeks before putting in Fields against the Lions. Have to be careful witha young QBs confidence and getting beat up by those lines just isnt a good idea.

If Nagy wants to start Dalton it's not because he believes Dalton is better and should be qb1 it shows he has no faith in his o-line. That hit on Justin was enough to see they have a RT issue. Guys are not insync and they need to be to make this thing work. I hope they address it asap or this year we won't be as lucky to make it to the post season.

Shay is correct. First 3 games to Dalton. Once Dalton starts showin you he's not who you thought he was, Ball goes to Fields, but Justin obviously is not ready to QB as a starter. He had a nasty awful camp.
