- Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that 34 countries have expressed interest in joining BRICS, either formally or through various levels of engagement. During a meeting with senior BRICS officials focused on security matters, Putin emphasized Russia's commitment to the bloc's expansion as it assumes the 2024 chairmanship.
"More than three dozen countries, precisely 34, have shown interest in participating in BRICS activities in some capacity," Putin stated, underscoring Russia's priority to facilitate swift integration of new members.
As chair of BRICS for 2024, Russia has approached the role with a sense of urgency and responsibility, according to Putin. "Our chairmanship carries a special mandate: to ensure the seamless and accelerated integration of new member states into all BRICS mechanisms," he added.
Putin highlighted the group's accomplishments in addressing global security challenges, including efforts to combat cybercrime and terrorism. "BRICS has developed a strong foundation of cooperation in areas such as counterterrorism, illegal arms and drug trafficking, transnational crime, and illegal migration," Putin said. He also pointed to the creation of a specialized electronic registry for sharing data on cyberattacks as a key achievement of the bloc’s collaborative efforts.

Only be seriously concerned when the ~65 countries that have their currency pegged to the US Dollar start migrating that peg to something different like 'The Unit' or Gold. Saudi Arabia for example, is not going to do anything to undermine their own currency which is pegged to the US Dollar.

@@Decoy0527 BRICS+ is just an alternative to SWIFT. You can't use your BRICS+ "currency" to invest in stock and bond markets around the world. What the small countries will find is that they will continue to "give away" their commodities and become poorer and poorer.

The fact that trillions of dollars exchanged between countries are subjected to a 0.005% transaction fee is absurd, especially when the actual cost of the transaction is just $10 with the push of a button. The infrastructure costs have been covered many times over by these fees. BRICS is challenging this monopoly held by 15 countries that benefit from it. And the idea that the US can freeze foreign funds held by BRICS nations that oppose US policy? That’s wishful thinking.

As a Turk, I don't see this as a big issue. TÜRKİYE is pursuing its own interests. This does not mean that TÜRKİYE is turning its back on the USA, NATO, or the EU.
Turkey, for various reasons, including location, is one of a dozen countries best positioned to play both sides of the multi polar world. That's a benefit to its people. Hungary would like to be more independent but location is a problem that's not going away.

If the UN reform fails then BRICS will replace the UN. Right now 34 members are interested but along with India, 125 global South countries are also ready to join BRICS.

Most of countries which want to join BRICS are very poor countries. They simply need help and could offer nothing. to others. I wonder if they are able to achieve progress. G7 is a group of the richest countries in the world but BRICS is a group of poorest countries with some exceptions. Are poor countries able to cooperate successfully ? Interesting. I hope they're successfull. They should increase trade, investments and create own financial system.
Those countries that wanted to join BRICS are poor because they are robbed blind by -g7- the thieves.
