1) That isn't an Evo, it is a Mitsubishi LANCER WRC. The car was built from a regular Lancer Cedia and carries a WRC tuned 4G63 Evolution engine.
2) The width of the car was enhance for better areodynamics. The Lancer WRC is actually a shorter length than the regular Lancer.

it's a misfire system, otherwise known as "antilag" it allows the car to run at optimum RPM as to allow the turbo to continuously spool, and hence, not lag. It would cost the price of a car with a turbo (better to have one stock) and then add 10,000 dollars CAD on top of it. also expect your fuel economy to halve.

@122ffsdd they have a service area but you usually need to complete a few stages before you can go to it. Most people will change the tire at the end of the stage.
@carbongecko Thats true. btw i think he show some awsome driving without that tire.
@xparty The Evo driver said he had a problem with his brakes. He was trying to make it to the corner, didn't work out as planned. Than decided to pass the BMW on the left, but the BMW took the hairpin and got hit when the Evo came by.

@chillenlikeavillain Looking at it once again at the Rallymedia OneShot channel, I see a hairpin at the site of the crash, however, the area past the hairpin isn't taped off either, and one wouldn't expect a driver to miss a turn so blatantly. Perhaps an overlapping course or something similar? Just doesn't seem likely that a driver would miss a turn by that much, you know. Whichever way you look at it, while the cars most likely retired, it made for one truly spectacular moment.
@Predator2225 its a forced backfire that keeps the turbo's spooled up.

@chillenlikeavillain the BMW stuck it's nose out, the Evo was simply going to storm past him. That's what it looked like to me, though.

@jwhiteyoung Even better: try to find Louis Zborowski photos from racing in 1920ties. He was overtaking opponents by powersliding in car based on 3 tons taxi with airship engine.
