Thank you., I’m Lakota and never learned how to make a drum or rattle so thank you for making this video. I have four fours I’ve been drying since fall, it’s spring, I think they’re ready to start making.,Pilamiya’ye for the video , kola
I come here to look at how others do their own to remember how my people did theirs, and to be inspired. I get dreams of have a gourd rattle. I am conflicted, whether to buy a ready-made dried gourd rattle and paint the symbols of my people, or if I grow my own gourd and go through the process of creating my own rattle. Or if I were to simply buy a dry gourd (because I can't grow one right now) and go through part of the process. thank you for sharing.
That is a gourd, which is related to the pumpkins and squash. it has minimal pulp and a hard outer shell.Just make sure the pulp is completely dried out when making the rattle.

Did you find it dried out?
you can let these cords set all winter and clean them up in the spring, they will be dry. I just kept mine inside a few months and they dried fine.
