When we were kids me and my brothers would go to my grandpas house to hang out. Every time we were there he always put SpongeBob on, because it gave him an excuse to watch it. I remember him dying of laughter from many of the episodes, especially “Band Geeks”. He once told my mom it was his favorite show. Just imagine an old widowed Vietnam Vet laughing his ass off watching a cartoon about a sponge. That’s why SpongeBob has always held a special place in my heart, because when I watch it I can still hear my grandfather’s laugh.
idk how this has no replies but this is such a beautiful memory. i love knowing that spongebob connects so many families everywhere just like it does for mine

Don’t reply to many comments but that is just beautiful. Especially with the trauma’s that can come with war (or trauma in general), those things that can make you laugh your ass off without fail are just so special. Thanks for sharing this!

But we also weren't allowed to watch TV all day and even in summer she made us do workbooks (which we liked) and she never said no if we wanted a book. But also she really idolized intelligence and thought spongebob was a very clever show, which I now appreciate as an adult

My parents love Spongebob and they would watch with us. I was obsessed with Spongebob but I can hyperfocus on things easily and I have an engineering degree. Spongebob doesn't make anyone dumber.
Great video, I wasn't allowed to watch it growing up but I was surrounded by it, even one of my closest friends had a Spongebob themed birthday party and she would quote it all the time
That's crazy my family is Christian hardcore so we weren't allowed to watch anime Simpsons Ren and stimpy anyting magic related but we were always allowed to watch SpongeBob and my mom loves the show mostly because it's all relatable to her working experience as a young adult That reminds me I was allowed to watch sailor moon until the lesbian kiss after that anime was never watched inside the house again with the exception of cells at work Because my mom likes cartoons where the characters have jobs
Yeah same I wasn’t allowed to watch it either because my dad found it annoying. But I would just watch it whenever he wasn’t home 😂 watched nearly every episode
The accuracy and attention to detail in this video are incredibly well done. My best friend and I grew up together watching this show and still quote it almost every time we hang out. I'm an aerospace engineer and he's a surgeon now.
Being a daughter SpongeBob was actually one of the first ways me and my dad connected. It was the start of our rebellion against moms rules 😅 Ever since then, as I’ve grown, my father and I developed similar humor making it possible for us to bond in positive ways. Now as a 20yo we still find new shows to watch together- mainly adult cartoons such as family guy and Rick and Morty. There’s no one else to thank but SpongeBob for the bond I’ve always loved having with my father ❤
Me and my dad watched king of the hill together, I’m in my late 20s and it was amazing! It’s hard to believe it came out in the late 90s, the stories and issues and characters are so relevant even today
This is exactly my experience too. Me and my dad loved spongebob and bonded very early on because of the show. My mom never hated it, just wasn't her cup of tea. But yes my dad and I have similar senses of humor and I believe spongebob helped bridge that gap. Maybe the bond that grew between me and my dad is the reason i was obsessed with the show growing up. I had a bedroom fully decorated in spongebob apparel much like the west Virginia bedroom shown in the video lol. Either way, we are very close now and always discuss different TV shows with each other. I only associate spongebob as mine and my dad's show. And I will always happily bring up sponge Bob to him whenever I see him. Anyway spongebob holds a special place in my heart ♡ glad to know someone else had a similar experience
I love SpongeBob so much, it truly raised a generation. I am Mexican so in my childhood I used to watch it in Spanish and dub was SO FREAKING GOOD, most of the joke were not lost in translation. This show it's great on every language.
I was such a big Spongebob fan as a child, that I started memorizing the dialogue from the episodes (specifically seasons 1-3). I could recite entire episodes from memory. I still am a big fan as an adult and rewatching episodes is so comforting to me. It really brings me back to a happier time.
The Super Bowl incident was (at least for me) rectified by the Dallas Stars hockey team doing a Sweet Victory themed halftime show. Not the same, but it was nice for what it was.
As someone in animation school, the whole “Caillou strains the brain less than spongebob” argument makes sense. Storyboard artists intentionally have to make sure they keep everything looking “neutral” and calm when working on shows for young children. Think the animation speed and style for fighting animes meant for older audiences vs. Baby shark. Also, children shows often bring on child developmental specialists for insight on what to add to boards and what not to add
My whole family loves Spongebob, especially my dad. The "Graveyard Shift" episode was my favorite as a kid so now the hash slinging slasher is an in-joke in my family. I do remember some of my classmates in elementary school not being allowed to watch it, which I always thought was weird. The best Spongebob memory I have was when I was about 7 or 8 years old, watching it in my room one evening. The episode ended, the credits started to roll, an eerie feeling crept in as it was getting late and the house was dark (the end credits can be kind of unsettling in the right atmosphere) and for a brief moment, the TV went black in between showing the studio logos and the next commercial. A moment so small and inconsequential but was also exhilarating and creepy.
My dad basically got me into Spongebob. Stephen Hillenburg had amazing ideas and most episodes from seasons 1 to 3 are genuinely super-well written comedy. Just rewatched the film yesterday and oh is it amazing. Genuinely good, not just funny.
Parents in the early 2000s: "Watching SpongeBob is gonna make you stupid!" Parents in 2023: "So what if my kids have unrestricted access to everything on the entire internet? They'll be fine."
Was reading the description for the "Sponge Out Of Water" movie, and it said he comes to our world for the very first time.. Apparently, they forgot about the real SpongeBob movie...
i have not seen a better made documentary before. THAT WAS THE BEST IVE SEEN. Incredible explanation, pacing, building ups of the highs and low and while so exciting. amazing
How the hell does this guy have so little recognition, like. This is really Well edited and educational like damn. You must have spent months on this. Like this is great.
7:22 I was primed and ready to not laugh at whatever you were about to throw, the letter E appeared for half a second before an ad and killed me, I quit
I honesty can place back conversations that lead to me becoming who am to this show. Band geek opened a whole new world of loving the idea to play music and my mom telling me she played the tuba in the band, so I went to marching band. Did band camp, rode (road road road), those long bus rides, played for thousands I've never met. It was so impactful for me as a person all to Spongebob. Being said my mom, my brother and I all still sing patricks song, and quote our favorite quotes to this day. Its brought so much genuine happiness to our exhausting world. I always wanted and aimed to be as non bothered, friendly and genuine as spondgebob when it comes to day to day life. Its definitely helped me mentally with my work ethic. Rip Stephen Thank you, for your creativity and charm you brought to the world❣️ Btw WV represent😗🤟
My wife didn't grow up with Spongebob like myself or any of my friends, so all the jokes we make have gone right over her head. I've finally been able to show it to her and she's loving it. Fantastic video, I was super impressed by the editing and I'm surprised your channel isn't at 100k! Ez sub for sure, can't wait to see more.
13:23 "we made 3 groups of dramatically young children. 1st group carved pumpkins. The second group watched Halloween Scooby-Doo movies. The third group watched nightmare on elm Street. This is proof that horror movies cause insomnia." -the media probably.
I live in North Europe, Finland and I've always loved Spongebob. There was an American exchange student in my class in high school and due to the cultural differences there wasn't much to bond over until my friends and I asked him about Spongebob. It was crazy to learn how some of the most iconic moments and jokes in the American version of Spongebob were lost in the Finnish translation and the other way around. We really became friends after that because Spongebob helped us to get to know each others
Spongebob was apparently playing in the hospital while I was being born, which was roughly 12 hours, so by the end of the day my older brothers had a new hatred for Spongebob while I literally grew up on it
I was never allowed to watch Spongebob as a kid because my family thought it was too juvenile, but it has still somehow left an effect on me. From what little I saw and how little I know, Spongebob, it's characters and it's general style have invaded my comedy, style and thoughts to random degrees.
That man was never wrong about anything i feel. He was very wise and mature in everything he said and did and had his own style that nobody was gonna take away that he absolutely felt he needed to share.
It's sad to see the level that the SpongeBob show has reduced to If the SpongeBob Movie had ended in the first film as planned, I'm sure it would be different But there are bad points in this, maybe people almost didn't remember the drawing, the jokes from which they were taken, the inspirations from there and even the current memes we have of the drawing and probably I wouldn't tag so many people Although I've recently seen that new kids and the beta generation don't seem to like this cartoon. But it's a crime that you get so little recognition for what I'm seeing here! You are still smol You deserve more!
My father loved watching SpongeBob with me. Sometimes I wasn't even watching tv and my father was still watching it. I remember that everytime we went to the beach my father would put seaweed on my face as a moustache and tell me that I was a man now.
That was actually in my script, to include both of those clips. Had the video downloaded and everything but I just couldn't put both together in that short part without making it look too visually awkward, or at least not as good as just having a single clip play.
My parents loved Spongebob and were the ones who introduced us to it! We even shared inside jokes about it. I am glad I have parents that appreciate cartoons
thanks for this video, spongebob has always been very special to me. im 30 years old and its still relevant in my every day life that i quote it at least once a week. it helps to have a good buddy to keep the memories fresh after all these years
SpongeBob was EVERYTHING back when I was in elementary school 😭 If you were a SpongeBob fan you already had friends lol. This was more than just a show! ☺️
It's safe to say that there isn't a show that has universally defined a generation quite like SpongeBob. Be it the classic seasons or the more recent seasons from season 9 onwards, there is quite alot to love about the show, its characters and... well, everything! This video does a great job showcasing the impact of SpongeBob. Great work on this!
My dad watched SpongeBob with me and my older brother growing up and he loved the show just as much as we did. I’m almost 23 years old now and I still hear him quoting the show every now and then asking him how he even remembers. He always says that the show was just that good and I couldn’t agree more. I can’t wait to watch this show with my kids.
Whattt this channel is so underrated. I didn’t see how many views this had so when I finished and saw it had 3k??? This is put together rly well I would’ve expected it to have at least 100k views. Definitely earned a sub
When I was very young, my mom didn't like me watching spongebob because it would say 'idiot'. One time my dad turned it on for me and they got in a fight about it lol
thanks for this video bro. I subscribed… I’m 22 & a lot has changed since my childhood in the 2000’s. lost a lotta people in my family. the line where you said that even though we may not know each other we all got to share the same experience made me feel a bit better for some reason.
Glad you enjoyed it The only constant thing in life is change, you just gotta to keep pushing along for better days with the people you care about and the people you haven't even met yet 💪 You got this 🫡
This video won me over, I subscribed. I love the impact SpongeBob had on me. Even if he was a working adult he had whimsy and a childish spirit, something I aspire to have at my big age too :]
SpongeBob will forever be so ahead of its time it’s literally the culture, you can’t find anyone that doesn’t know who SpongeBob is or anyone that can’t reference at least one thing from the show, RIP Stephen Hillenburg
Naw that's crazy that peoples' parents hate it. Mine put on the premier of the first episode in our house and it was the most-watched cartoon with our family, they thought it was hilarious.
Great video. The only thing I disagree on is saying that basically all of modern spongebob is bad, because even though the current seasons are nowhere near as good as the originals I think seasons 9,10, and 11 in particular have some pretty good episodes, not all of them are good dont get me wrong, but theres definitely a healthy amount that are worth at least one watch. I still cant believe Stephen is gone though, he'll always be my idol. Spongebob means so much more to me than just being a silly cartoon with memes.
Glad you enjoyed it! Oh yeah, I rewatched more from those seasons since I uploaded, and I wish I took it easier on them. Found myself enjoying it more than I thought I would.
I feel like the pre-2014 seasons of SpongeBob weren’t all that bad if you ignore the grotesque closeups, the ones now just feel like brain melt with excessive references to grand moments from those older seasons
Yeah, am I the only one who watched SpongeBob in it's "golden era" and then seasons 4-present and always enjoyed it no matter which season it was? I just love the show so much and every season has some really great episodes within it. ❤
@@NightCloudI similar for me actually, I think it's still a bit controversial to say this because the first three are just so so well written and hilarious, but for me, because I started watching the show on TV around the time that they were premiering seasons 7-9 with only reruns of season 1-4, it's 7-9 that are really nostalgic for me. I haven't watched the newer seasons 12-13 but I did quite enjoy season 10 and 11 so hopefully it will still be a good watch!
Happy to hear I wasn't the only one who thought the outro was creepy at times. 😳😅 It's slightly distorted notes gives a waking up at 2am creeped out and confused ambiance lmao
SpongeBob was my hero growing up as a kid. This was the main cartoon I would always watch. The newer seasons may not be as good as the ones before it, but at least newer generations can discover who SpongeBob is. It’s also the reason why I’m glad the show bluey is so popular, cause the kids watching bluey can have a different yet similar experience we all had when watching SpongeBob.
at 9:35 i just HAD a feeling it was gonna be the same word my mom doesn't like either, to this day (even though i'm still a teenager rn) i still don't want to say stupid around her, at times it does get hard when i try to describe something that is... absolutely super duper stupid.

Great video, I wasn't allowed to watch it growing up but I was surrounded by it, even one of my closest friends had a Spongebob themed birthday party and she would quote it all the time
That's crazy my family is Christian hardcore so we weren't allowed to watch anime Simpsons Ren and stimpy anyting magic related but we were always allowed to watch SpongeBob and my mom loves the show mostly because it's all relatable to her working experience as a young adult
That reminds me
I was allowed to watch sailor moon until the lesbian kiss after that anime was never watched inside the house again with the exception of cells at work
Because my mom likes cartoons where the characters have jobs
Aw man… no joke, my day to day life would be different if I wasn’t allowed to watch SpongeBob as a kid.
SpongeBob is the wildest thing to ban a kid from watching (well maybe not during seasons 4-6, it got a bit... fucked up at times during that era.)
Yeah same I wasn’t allowed to watch it either because my dad found it annoying. But I would just watch it whenever he wasn’t home 😂 watched nearly every episode
I’m so impressed with the quality of this video. I know it took a long time to make this thank you really enjoyed it
The accuracy and attention to detail in this video are incredibly well done.
Am i the only one that would ever say ,”This is like that episode of Spongebob” in a social situation before the memes?
I love SpongeBob so much, it truly raised a generation. I am Mexican so in my childhood I used to watch it in Spanish and dub was SO FREAKING GOOD, most of the joke were not lost in translation. This show it's great on every language.
You are right, the german voiced version is also iconic and one of the best cartoon translations
that was the worst rick roll of my entire life omg. instantly subscribed lmfao
I remember seeing videos of that its awesome
stop why did i start tearing up at that early Internet sequence, my childhood flashed before my eyes 😭😭
But that one car scene... Gave me PTSD
the good times
my mom hates spongebob because spongebob’s annoying, she does like squidward tho, and my dad likes spongebob
Both get it in different ways lol
She hates it bc she's probably squidward energy 😂☠️❤
They thought SpongeBob would rot a kids brain they weren’t ready for TikTok
THAT BREAK FROM CAILLOU TO PATRICK HAS ME CRYING
Like. I just remember Calliou being really young, but SpongeBob has been in my life forever. I had a plushie backpack that I miss to this day.
Parents in the early 2000s: "Watching SpongeBob is gonna make you stupid!"
Parents in 2023: "So what if my kids have unrestricted access to everything on the entire internet? They'll be fine."
Parents in 2050: So what they do war crimes? It's not gonna hurt anybody
Just goes to show how important moderation and Middle line thinking is so damn crucial in everything.
7:39 that was by far the most convincing “show’s over” gag I’ve ever seen, bravo
im surprised so many parents didn't like spongebob, most parents i know didn't mind it and my parents loved it just as much as i did as a kid
Was reading the description for the "Sponge Out Of Water" movie, and it said he comes to our world for the very first time.. Apparently, they forgot about the real SpongeBob movie...
Spongebob and Adventure Time both had such a huge impact on animation.
i have not seen a better made documentary before. THAT WAS THE BEST IVE SEEN. Incredible explanation, pacing, building ups of the highs and low and while so exciting. amazing
This was so well done!! I grew up watching spongebob as a kid, I think it's forever changed me.
How the hell does this guy have so little recognition, like. This is really Well edited and educational like damn. You must have spent months on this. Like this is great.
Ayy ty for saying that
I spent almost exactly a month on it 😎
@@Liuss Wow. I could have never created this master piece in that short time
My dad and I don't always get along, but put spongebob on and we sit there together laughing and smiling. Forever grateful for that.
Rip Stephen
Thank you, for your creativity and charm you brought to the world❣️
Btw WV represent😗🤟
Spongebob was apparently playing in the hospital while I was being born, which was roughly 12 hours, so by the end of the day my older brothers had a new hatred for Spongebob while I literally grew up on it
Not me crying at the shared human experience we all shared.
I was never allowed to watch Spongebob as a kid because my family thought it was too juvenile, but it has still somehow left an effect on me. From what little I saw and how little I know, Spongebob, it's characters and it's general style have invaded my comedy, style and thoughts to random degrees.
Kind of disturbing tbh you didn’t miss out.
0:01 yes i am

I had to pause the video because the “E” at 7:12 made me laugh so hard I feel so brainwashed

That man was never wrong about anything i feel. He was very wise and mature in everything he said and did and had his own style that nobody was gonna take away that he absolutely felt he needed to share.
It's sad to see the level that the SpongeBob show has reduced to
If the SpongeBob Movie had ended in the first film as planned, I'm sure it would be different
But there are bad points in this, maybe people almost didn't remember the drawing, the jokes from which they were taken, the inspirations from there and even the current memes we have of the drawing and probably I wouldn't tag so many people
Although I've recently seen that new kids and the beta generation don't seem to like this cartoon.
But it's a crime that you get so little recognition for what I'm seeing here! You are still smol You deserve more!
9:58 You can find studies that proove literally everything on the internet (contradictory and diametrically opposite things included).
My father loved watching SpongeBob with me. Sometimes I wasn't even watching tv and my father was still watching it. I remember that everytime we went to the beach my father would put seaweed on my face as a moustache and tell me that I was a man now.
I was watching this while doing doing laundry and I was not ready for the WV call out. But I can confirm that SpongeBob is huge here.
You honestly forgot when the dallas stars performed sweet victory at a hockey game
I am glad I have parents that appreciate cartoons
thanks for this video, spongebob has always been very special to me. im 30 years old and its still relevant in my every day life that i quote it at least once a week. it helps to have a good buddy to keep the memories fresh after all these years
Kids in college now, thank god for SB during their formative years. We still refer back occasionally for life lessons.
SpongeBob was EVERYTHING back when I was in elementary school 😭
If you were a SpongeBob fan you already had friends lol.
11:15 isn't kinda UTTERLY STμ₱ID to compare a show for TODDLERS with one for all ages?
this show might have jump-started my "explosions are funny" humor
Whattt this channel is so underrated. I didn’t see how many views this had so when I finished and saw it had 3k??? This is put together rly well I would’ve expected it to have at least 100k views. Definitely earned a sub
Ayy ty for the support!!!
When I was very young, my mom didn't like me watching spongebob because it would say 'idiot'.
One time my dad turned it on for me and they got in a fight about it lol
Beautiful video. I can't express how valuable Spongebob was to my childhood
nothing got me laughing so bad this week than putting caillou scenes beside spongebob oh my god this show is fucking wild
thanks for this video bro. I subscribed… I’m 22 & a lot has changed since my childhood in the 2000’s. lost a lotta people in my family. the line where you said that even though we may not know each other we all got to share the same experience made me feel a bit better for some reason.
Glad you enjoyed it
The only constant thing in life is change, you just gotta to keep pushing along for better days with the people you care about and the people you haven't even met yet 💪
You got this 🫡
The ending made me tear up. You reminded me if a simpler time in my life I wish I could revisit.
Right after the guy said “I think we’re on the casp of something… exhilarating” a war robots ad came on when I looked away💀
No way 💀
" the guy " 😭
That's David Bowie
This video won me over, I subscribed. I love the impact SpongeBob had on me. Even if he was a working adult he had whimsy and a childish spirit, something I aspire to have at my big age too :]
We’re all goofy goobers!
SpongeBob will forever be so ahead of its time it’s literally the culture, you can’t find anyone that doesn’t know who SpongeBob is or anyone that can’t reference at least one thing from the show, RIP Stephen Hillenburg
we were robbed of band geeks for a man who did the robot while people died.
My cousin made up a version of "Krusty Krab Pizza" replacing it with "Kentucky Fried Chicken." I still sing it to this day.
Exactly 👏
The editing on this was actually FIRE! Sick video
SpongeBob was my hero growing up as a kid. This was the main cartoon I would always watch. The newer seasons may not be as good as the ones before it, but at least newer generations can discover who SpongeBob is. It’s also the reason why I’m glad the show bluey is so popular, cause the kids watching bluey can have a different yet similar experience we all had when watching SpongeBob.
these videos are incredible quality. keep up the good work. this is like if Aperture was pop culture
Nothing could’ve prepared me for that transition from Caillou to Patrick screaming
"Watching SpongeBob makes kids stupid." I used to watch SpongeBob a lot as a kid and even now as a 23 year old engineer.
I cried during the whole internet recap
at 9:35 i just HAD a feeling it was gonna be the same word my mom doesn't like either, to this day (even though i'm still a teenager rn) i still don't want to say stupid around her, at times it does get hard when i try to describe something that is... absolutely super duper stupid.
