Hay season is in full swing as summer begins! Today, we are baling with our old John Deere 24T square baler hooked up to Uncle Larry's new (to him) 1974 John Deere 4430.
Thank you! He really loves the camera. Really neat to have someone that far away watching our videos. My Great-Great-Great Grandfather Friederich Messmer came to the U.S. from Baden-Baden in 1844. Several other distant German relatives as well, but I’ll have to look at my tree to see exactly where they came from.
We had a 24T with thrower. It basically self-destructed. Wasn't Deere's finest design. We bought an early 336 to replace it in 1975. Unbelievable machine. They have the same similar design all these years later.
Interesting. So far, we’ve only had to replace the knotters. However, we got really lucky when we started having issues because our local junkyard just so happened to have one dropped off around the same time, so we were able to rob some parts off of it really cheap.
Hee .nice to see this . I have here in Germany a 224t baler . Its the same .but my one has more cover for security for maintenance and handling . Best greetings from East-Frisia in north-west germany from Bert

We had a JD 4030 bought new in the 70's, traded off sometime in the 90's. Last I heard of it was in 2015, tractor had over 17,000 hours on it then. So 8 to 10 thousand hours doesn't sound that bad LOL.
Yes. We have been charging $2 per bale for custom baling square bales. For direct sales to customers, we’ve been charging $5 per bale if customer picks up directly from the field. If delivered by us, we’ve been charging $7 per bale on average. I wish we could keep some in stock, but we don’t have the storage for it at the moment. For round bales, we average $18 per bale for custom baling. For direct sales to customers, we get $70 per bale for 5x5 and $80 for 5x6. All rounds are net wrapped.
Very cool, turn key bailer! I've spent an hour or two behind a JD 24T. Good memories of hard work!
It’s been great. We had to do a little work on the knotters in the spring, but it still only cost us $5. 😂
Nice to see the Junior live on stage❤ with his father !

Wow! I hope we can get that much life out of ours. The two speed will likely need rebuilt soon, so that’ll probably be the next big project.
The only time you turn the pump up is for the county fair tractor pull. After the pull, you set it back to stock.
Or when you’re 83 years old like my uncle is and want a little more power in the field, even if you don’t need it, you do it anyway. 😎
I wore out two 24T balers
They were slow but they're a good baler in their time
It’s good to see them still around.
Thankfully, this one still works well. Hopefully it’ll last us a little while.
There are some 4430 around here pushing 20000
Hours
I hope we can get that much out of Uncle Larry’s.
How are you all pricing your custom baling? By the bale?

Hook ya a wagon to that puppu
We mainly just sell it straight from the field. Unfortunately, we don’t really have the storage space to keep any.
