I've been building potato cannons for decades and haven't once had any kind of failure, even in guns making up to 400 PSI of chamber pressure (through means of compressed air mixed with fuel, like a car engine), the key to safety is proper material selection and safe fuels for that particular material, aka no pure oxygen in plastic piping (has to be rated steel), which all the idiots in these videos did. A stoichiometric mixture of atmospheric air and propane will generate somewhere between 30 to 50 PSI, which most pvc pipe (schedule 40, not dwv) is rated at least four times over that. Schedule 80 can withstand even more than that. I find it ironic that Charlotte is telling me not to make potato guns when every dime I've ever given them has been for exactly that purpose🤣. I get that lawyers make them say these things but I've never been one to heed the words of a corporate lawyer, so, umm, take off you hosers, I'm making a potato cannon literally right now lol and it's also Charlotte brand😉. Four foot long 4" diameter chamber with a five foot long 3" barrel, with six taser ignition modules and an onboard propane fuel mixing valve, it shoots 2 pound projectiles close to 250 yards lol.

Just use the right kind of high pressure rated pvc and don’t use too much ignition and you will be fine

wait would using steel pipe be safer than using pvc?

Either buy threaded pipe or weld it but if you buy weak or thin steel and use too much ignition it would be a million times worse it would be like a grenade going off in your hands

You didnt mention the 10 year prison sentence for making one if the ATF catches wind of you. Abolish the ATF

I expected to see a tip video for spud guns just like this one! Hmmmm explosive vapor in a mostly sealed plastic container with a variable pressure, manually rigged semi mechanical pressure relief valve type mechanism, and your plan is to introduce a spark into that environment? After cramming a potato down 5 feet of tube with a broomstick? With nothing any more PPE than some bitchin' cheap shades from the dollar store? Aaaaaand you are going to stream it live to ALL your buddies and your mom?
Some people didn't get to watch Wile E. Coyote on Saturday mornings and it shows.
Acme coal distillate anti road-runner cannon model A11 with variable form ammunition. Can be used in conjunction with the rocket skateboard for full mobile effect. Guaranteed or no money back! I seen that episode.

Don't use oxygen acetylene mix and you won't have that problem

Yah each detonation is a heat cycle on the plactic and then there is embrittlement.

These guys are right, dont build it.

No don't build it like shit. Do your homework and you'll be fine. If you avoided every dangerous thing you would stay inside under your bed with your blankey.
