Damn it man, now I must have one! I was an Army Artillery Forward Observer for 8 years and I have to tell you that you’ve made an awesome howitzer. I seldom actually fired the guns, being up “on the hill” mostly, but I did help shoot mortars on occasion when they were short of crew. I also fired several “Sundown guns” for ceremonies, and you have what is close to a 75mm pack gun howitzer. I’d love to have one and adjust fires with it. Making mashed potatoes! Kudos!!
Awesome! Glad you liked it :-)
2 things how in gods name did u see wheels a y pice of folding metal plexy-glass etc. and think yea i can make field artillery with that and 2i will find stuff for a bigger one and i will make a 41/2 ft heavy artillery weapon that shiites watermelons if i can fit the barrel right but i think it'll have to be cantelopes and stuff

I enjoyed the night shots with the muzzle blast.
You may get even more impressive results by adding a muzzle brake like found on the M198 howitzer.
There are some great examples of the muzzle brake on an M198 in action here:

I would add an Arduino and an electronic gas valve to make a timed gas release, so that you can dial in an exact amount of gas based on the time the valve is open, and always be able to repeat that same amount of gas. You could even have various preset options for more or less gas to hit a target distance. Or go all out with a laser rangefinder too and design an algorithm that calculates exactly how much gas and at what angle is needed to hit that target! Lol
Edit: you'd probably need a pressure sensor also to measure gas pressure, because as the pressure in the gas tank drops after a few shots you'd need to hold the valve open longer to get the same amount in the firing chamber.
This Dude has BRAINS 🧠 and SKILLS! Plus he looks like a Giant version of a Leprechaun!

Good job on the cannon. I also enjoyed the music. I almost forgot I wasn't watching beyond the press channel lol. I can't wait to see the future upgrades. It makes me want to build one that looks like an M198 howitzer that I used to shoot in the marine corps.

Would love to see this with a longer barrel with accurate aiming and modified for paintball. Imagine 2-4 of these call for fire during paintball? That would be epic!
You could theoretically shoot paintballs out of this. If you had some kind of wad, like a piece of Styrofoam, and then added paintballs it should act like a big shotgun.
@@CAMSLAYER13 Years ago, there was a common load for cannons called "Grape Shot" and it was like little cannonballs with, as you said, wadding behind it. I would love to see you use paintballs in this manner!!!

HAHAHA that's so sick! I've seen a lot of different potato cannons, but never a potato howitzer. 🤣
this guy is a male mechanic from scrap mechanic, which coinidentally is a game where the only weapons you have shoot potatoes
I love the improvement ideas. Suggestion, if you are going to add oxygen as part of the fuel, then have the actual barrel be all one piece with no holes and inject the gaseous fuel directly inside that barrel and the igniter also inside the same barrel. This will give your gun quite a bit more umph! Might freak the neighbors out a bit as it will also give a much louder report!
But then, not just potatoes, but how about bloated tins of old food? Since the new power will give you a greater range, then you would not have to worry so much about breathing he stench of rotted food! lol
I'm going to show this to my older brother and say "well here's the potato cannon you wanted." XD
It really would be a lot of fun to take that where people are playing paintball, or airsoft, and ask if you can play!
I don't know how much research you've done into performance upgrades but a few things like multiple ignition points spaced equally apart and any cheap body spray for propellent can really give it a boost
The best part about it is that it really acts as fragmentation ammo cuz it makes shrapnel at impact
If the eyes go everywhere then you've got a potato patch at the impact zone!
first video I've seen from you, and you've made a good first impression
40 squirrels living in the nearby trees dislked this video,.
I initially started watching your channel for your boat videos. However, all of your other videos are just as cool. It has been a pleasure to subscribe and see what you come up with next. I still don't know why you don't have 100 times more subscribers. I doubt if it will help but I featured you on my channel. Too many other channels are focused on how to make money from their channel and are all slicked up, you just focus on the fun of DIY and are an amazing improviser. Keep em coming.
Thanks! I should have some more boat videos this summer too!
This is pretty sick!! Late to the comment section but imagine melting down aluminum cans and casting a potato. 🤣
i love that build especially that you got most of it for free. the oxygen is a bad idea because it makes the combustion to fast and the pressure spike to pointy (risk of shattering). what you could do to improve reliable and repeatable combustion is to measure the fuel and mount a small cpu fan inside the chamber to mix the gas since you wanted to have a battery powered igniter anyway. use a 3 dollar arc generator module for that. the box shaped ones are usually plasma and the round ones usually stun. the stun ones are not as electronics friendly and draw more ampere. it has been one year we would love to see a part 2
when i was younger my friends and i would pretend to have wars, now just image having this as a kid
Finally, now I can create an Idahoan militia's artillery sect.
what is that sound we are hearing as you assemble the machine. I’m half heartedly watching. But that sound has my foot tapping, head bobbing, and the old air guitar jamming away. 😂
I should have the music credited in the video, I think the one for the assembly is Ethan Meixsell's "March On". It's on RUclips's royalty-free library so you can probably find it elsewhere on RUclips.

Bro ur genius! You needed few days but if I try I will need few years to start
I made one similar. It didn't look as correct as that. It was more of a battleship style. I cut the cap threads in 3 positions so that it had a quick unlock instead of unscrewing, I used a steel tube from leftover conduit as a barrel and mine breech loads, but uses black powder.......
It's not as sophisticated but it's loved at 4th of July parties!
For your sight have a look on the shield of the german 75mm PaK 40 anti Tank gun. It has a little hole in the shield for the gunner's sight
As a welder and fabricator, I find this totally friggin awesome. I have seen old army jeep with a .50 cal mounted in back with a propane “pop-pop” system to simulate full auto. And my dad made a real working cannon many years ago. He was a gunsmith 🇺🇸
Two things use a steel pipe. Make every potato the same diameter.
When you feel ready to move up the danger level to 20. Use acetylene and oxygen. This also means the potato has to be in a container. But the range is much more than a football field 🤫

You wild man.
Balls as big as coconuts.
I love that it actually works like a howitzer
I love it. I am a Propane technical trainer. I too built a hand held potato gun. I used map gas when everybody else was using hair spray. What I did to get a reliable mixture was I took the turbo torch and I used the venturi that comes with it. I was getting 300 yards out of a 4' x 2" barrel. I had a ball valve I would open, shoot in the gas and then close the valve to fire. I also sharpened the end of the barrel so as I shoved an over sized potato in, it was sized to fit. With the perfect mixture and a tight seal in the barrel, it was epic.
I like the idea of the drilled breach. Perhaps a test could be performed at Sand Land to see which it better.
I actually did make a test / comparison video, it's here: ruclips.net/video/FmIoJznWDzM/видео.html
This .. is .. AWESOME! I'm kinda impressed with how straight it shoots. Granted it looks to be only about 30 feet, but that's still good shootin'.
10/10 for the music lad
I have just returned from the year 2053, and I have seen the devastation of the Great Potatoe Gun Wars. The role the third-generation Potatoe Howitzers played was undeniable.
Years ago we made a propane powered potato gun. We used 2 quarter turn ball valves with a pipe in-between. The way it worked was gas would come in the first valve with the other shut filling the between pipe. Then you close the first valve and open the second valve to release the gas into the combination chamber. This way can be fine tuned by adding length or cutting the pipe between the valves shorter. It took a while to get it right but when it the right volume size it was very consistent.
You need to try a steel wool cannon ball soaked with lighter fluid at night it’s an awesome show!
great job, too much fun. keep up the good work. thanks
