  • Albert Woodfox was one of the ‘Angola Three’, the three African-American former prison inmates who were held for decades in solitary confinement.
Woodfox has recently published his book 'Solitary', retelling the story of the 44 years and 10 months he spent inside for a crime he didn't commit.
He speaks to Krish about how he stayed sane whilst imprisoned, why he became attracted to the Black Panther movement and how he is still fighting against ‘the system'.
Warning: Very strong and racially sensitive language.

Not sure what this man said that was so "worthwhile hearing". I listened to all of it..and went to his Wikipedia page. This guy is a relic, a man that had a future before he went to prison and was segregated from America by his need for acceptance and overall lack of self-worth. Hardly a new or inspiring story. Guess he seems like a decent dude in spite of his hardships.

@@GARY84ROCKS wow! He has also seen men slit their throats trying to get out of solitary and yet this man still lives to tell the tales that he tells but you know hes a decent bloke and all :/

I read the book. Every American should if he wants to BEGIN to understand systemic racism and the slavery that never disappeared. The prison system in LA is beyond belief, something from the Dark Ages, including the shameful, deplorable behavior of Attorney General Buddy Caldwell and the abject cowardliness of Governor Bobby Jindal. Albert Woodfox is one thousand times the man that these two are, whatever crimes he committed when still a YOUTH! Praise God he is finally enjoying the freedom he should have had decades ago!

How do you compensate the loss of your life, the denial of Justice, being brutalised by the very institutions which are supposed to protect and serve. The racism and denial of your basic, fundamental human rights which invariably blight your life?????!

This is simply unimaginable NO ONE i repeat NO ONE deserves that kind of dehumanization. This is a true testament to capability of the human mind i am sure that whoever was responsible for this unjustly act truly truly thought he would not make it out. Let alone be able to go in front of people, multiple people with cameras with media questions and not fold and go blank and freak out this dude to Me. Is the coolest coldest dude to ever live period I dont care what he does his mind is intact and that inspires me to do great things with mine thank you for tour sacrifice Albert
