That’s nice to hear Arleen, I have been where you are right now, and learning watercolor and different approaches is key to finding your own voice.. have fun..Rae
After watching your videos I ordered a travel dagger brush and wow am I having fun. My daughter saw my first layer and wanted the painting as it was so colourful but she’ll have to wait!
Well I hope it’s the brand dimension and the 3/8 inch size because there are other dagger brushes that are not nearly as good. Sounds like you’re having fun that’s great Sue
@@raeandrews1925 I’m not sure of that brand in Australia. I bought a Rosemary & Co so that it was safe to take travelling but I did manage to fling it on the ground out of it’s holder! I will invest in a stay at home one.
You can get those brushes Silver Black Velvet Dagger or also called a Striper on Amazon.. 3/8”..the size is key Sue to the way I can flick the paint around..
Thank you, Rae! Your style and the colors you use are absolutely amazing! I wish I could paint like you do, though I am afraid there,s no chance. But I keep on trying and practicing. Love your demos.
Well practice does make perfect so have fun on your own journey and even if a little bit of me rubs off on watch you do then I have achieved my goal. Thank you for your comment
I really enjoy your demos.... esp the way you keep the paint fresh and lively. My challenge this year is to LOOSEN UP, your style appeals to me because: the brushstrokes are free and easy but saturated with color, the painting appears to be controlled but not obvious. Thanks for the demo!
Dear Rae I would like to see how you draw in your picture before painting. Drawing seems to be the skeleton of most paintings and yours are a good indication you do a decent drawing before hand.
Hi, it seems I did not answer this one and I’m very sorry I’ve only just noticed it. I draw in man-made structures always but I wouldn’t draw all the foliage that just comes out of the paint.... and when I draw the actual structure it’s really just to get the roofline and the windows the poles for the veranda , that sort of thing. It’s not a totally complete rendition of the house itself and the structures. Really most of my work comes out of the paint, that’s the way I prefer to work.
How do you keep from overworking an area or painting? I feel like l endup geting muddy, instead of depth? Really looking to painting. More loose, keeping defined depth and movement. Watercolor is new to me. Love the vibrancy and unexpected vulnerable, just not know when enough is enough. Thank you !🎨🙋♀️🖼💕
Hmm, that’s lot to address.. but here goes nothing.😊I find if you work in sections on a piece, like a jigsaw and don’t spend a huge amount of time on each section, you should not OVERWORK or get mud. I also work wet into dry method the most and this way, the colors I choose DONT get out of control. Along with leaving that white paper showing through, it stays pretty clean and not muddy. Of course you MUST know your colors too and how to mix them. Keep colors in the same family close together ..with that white left in places, later you can pop a complementary color in there to brighten up the whole composition.
I do online lessons through Zoom.. I posted a video on them here Debbie.. see my most recent RUclips video, and by all means contact me though messenger or my website ..... raeandrews.com

Wonderful tutorial. Rae, are you going to do a tutorial on the winding road landscape you had on FB? Thank you.
Not sure which one you mean, let me know it’s title and I will ponder 😊
Hi Rae: It's called Zigzag Stroll into Town.
Oh ok.. well I hadn’t planned on another with structures just now, having just done one. But I will certainly keep it in mind..thanks Karen
What is that gorgeous gold ?
