  • This is a short look at the Coleman Sportster Portable Grill .. It is Model 9985 .. sometimes referred to as the Roadtrip Classic .. the biggest difference between the Sportster and the Roadtrip is that the Roadtrip series has duel burners and slideout side trays .. sharing this video because there isn't much info on the Sportster Model

    While it’s a good idea to put foil on the bottom for easier cleanup just make sure the foil does not touch the metal ignition wire by the burner because it will short it out and not produce a spark to it ignite it.

    I like this grill, alot, and I think it does a good job cooking burgers and dogs. The lid is a little too low to cook London broil or other higher things, but works for my applications including camping. I like that I can take the single grate out and clean it easily in a sink. It only has one burning surface cannot really establish a higher and lower heat area on grill. Additionally, a table would be useful near this grill as there are no stands. And, although it is compact and folds nicely, it can be a pain, especially being top heavy and can flop over and you could scratch top of grill if you don't do it carefully. BUT it is portable and works great. I bought mine used for $30 and I have to say I am very pleased with it and it was a steal. I use a 5 lb refillable tank and a hose with it instead of the disposable and expensive one pound propane canisters. I will often use it over my larger awesome Weber grill.

      You are absolutely right ... I've cooked on it quite a bit since buying it and learned that it is definitely not the perfect steak grill ... very difficult controlling the heat with the one burner as you stated ... the burgers, hotdogs, and chicken has always be great

    As mentioned by other posters the flame adjustment knob doesn’t. It’s essentially an on off deal. That said it somehow did great on my rib eye steaks just stay on top of it.

    Thanks for the tin foil tip, I was wondering if I could and it wouldn't hurt ir or catch fire, I have caught tin foil on fire in oven broiling steaks with grease dripping on it, just wondering if it's worked well with tin foil

    Do you still get the same bbq taste

    • @contactpq
      @contactpq  3 года назад

      Definitely! For the right taste it really comes down to choosing the right seasons for your taste buds ... you just have to get use to cooking with this grill because with one burner, there isn't much control over the cooking temp

    I bought one of these on July 3rd for the holiday-worst grill I've ever owned in my life. The instructions for assembly are nothing more than ancient Egyptian pictographs so you WILL have to take apart and reassemble several times to get it right. On the 4th, I tried to cook a slab of ribs on the grill and it would not stay lit. Never got hot even on high setting. Ended up cooking in the oven instead. The grill has no thermometer and no gauge to see how much propane is left. Today is the 5th and Mr. Coleman is going to give me my money back. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS GRILL! (Or steal one; you'd be wasting your time)

      I don't think that coals are recommended for this one
