Clearly, you don't understand what this man is trying to say...
Like this man, I am old school, so I immediately understand his message. Back in my day, no one, I mean NOBODY, pulled out a gun or a knife during a fight.
And, we didn't unfairly gang up on a single person. We opened a circle and fought our fights one on one, fairly and with no weapons involved.
In fact, any fights that took place with weapons involved were so rare back then that if one did happen, it made the evening news. Back then, we were raised with integrity, even while being violent. We never kicked an opponent while they were down. We fought like men! And, whether it was win, lose or draw, we took the results without retaliation or argument.
I feared no one but even I got my ass kicked on more than one occasion. But, I would rather get my ass kicked than fight unfairly. Because, a good ass kicking is a lesson in itself!
What this man is saying is that the days of fighting with integrity are over.

But facts are you get beaten by brass knuckles and your mother is being threatened as well. It is not past the point of self defense. @@amck72Agreed. I'm a big 2A and self-defense guy. I believe this is the case. He could have walked inside, locked the door, called the police, and waited with said firearm.
From what it sounds like, he got is ass beat, went inside and got a gun, and retaliated. Even in my state with VERY robust self defense laws - he'd most likely lose this case. If they attempted to force their way inside or something afterward, he'd have a good chance at not even seeing a court case here.

@@kevingooley9628 I agree, but the homicide would be charged to the accomplice involved in the attack, not to the one who defended himself. The self-defender would only be charged for the drug dealing, at best.
The law could not charge people for defending themselves during an attack, even if there was criminal activity, because that would lead to too many issues. People could take advantage of the fact that both were involved in a criminal act to commit worse crimes against the person. For example, if a person in prostitution was defending herself from a john who got aggressive. This is why it's possible that he might not even be charged for the drug dealing. They want people to come forward, so they may let a lesser crime go or give a plea deal in exchange for testimony.
