- The Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles award redemptions especially for flights within the U.S. are a great value, but their website can be a little difficult to navigate. Today I am going over how to book award tickets on Turkish Miles&Smiles (particularly United flights) so hopefully you can avoid some of the same headache I encountered.

interesting, won't let me select business class for any of my searches. actually let's me select, but lists all flights as if I selected economy. all flights are also 10k points now, so I guess they increased the cost!
The website is not great, but you should be able to filter business class on the search. Indeed it is unfortunate they devalued it but it's still a great flat-rate redemption compared to other dynamic pricing options
I went through all the same troubles you mentioned and figured out everything eventually - I wish I had seen this before.
They should simply use a numeric value for 'Membership number'. Using the TK prefix without a space over there, but expecting you to enter ONLY the numeric part during login is inconsistent. Also, under your account settings you need to first enable separate options to allow login using email and using phone number. Until then, you can only use Membership number.
Sadly the program is getting devalued starting 16 Feb 2024.

I'm not sure what the problem is for me, but whenever I'm trying to look for flights, all of my search results are "No seats available". I'm flying out of San Jose, CA (SJC) or San Francisco (SFO), and made sure the destination has United airlines. The flights show up, but it says no seats available, even when it's months in advanced like yours. I even tried to do exactly 4ish months like your video here too, and still no luck.

It won't let you book for anyone else other than yourself. It says you need to call or visit one of their sales offices. I did some research on it and it's a real crapshoot weather the person you're speaking to will speak English and whether they can see the same flights for the 7500 points that you're seeing on the website to book them for the family. Going to give it a try tonight! Will update
I don't know why they tell you on the site that "If you want to travel with a loved one" to call a representative. I ended up calling a rep too at first but ultimately did it on my own on the site. It was so freaking painful to do this on the phone, and equally painful to try it on the site. My representative was lovely but when she completed my booking, and emailed it to me, there was nothing there for me to approve. No dates, no times, no flight numbers. But it had a record locator. So, she cancelled that reservation and did another one for me. Same issue. So she said I had three days to ticket that reservation and we'd see if it showed up in my portal. It never did. I couldn't even see that information online but I figured out I could on the app. But I couldn't complete the reservation (pay for it) on the app!! So, knowing it would get kicked out on 12/5, I just tried again to do the reservation for the two of us online. Because I remembered during one attempt that it asked me for my next passenger (I guess because at the beginning, I plussed the tool up to reflect 2 adult passengers). Gave it a try and it worked. I was able to book for both me and my partner. But the weird thing was, I selected ROUND TRIP and it never took me to a point where I could at the second leg. It even said, OUTBOUND TRIP when I started the booking. The first time that happened, I backed out of the tool and started over. I thought, maybe I didn't select ROUND TRIP. But I did. So I ended up booking both legs as two separate transactions.
All in, to get this awards travel booked, I had to talk with three different people, one of which I hung up with, because she told me it would cost me more if I ticketed it with her ($1200+), she couldn't tell me the breakdown of what that $1200 was for and said I could also go to a Turkish desk and book it that way if I wanted. Which for me, is great because I live all of like 10 mins from IAD. But then she told me it would cost EVEN MORE if I booked it at the airport. I can't remember what question I asked her but she put me on hold and when she did, I just hung up and drove to IAD. Got to the Turkish desk at about 1:00 PM, only to learn they don't staff that desk until 4:00 PM. Came BACK home and just went for it (terrifying, because we are talking about points I've been busting my ass earning for MONTHS and cash on top of that for fuel and taxes).
Got it done but good Lord - what an absolute goat rope. They may be considered "the best airline in Europe" but their tools suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

Thank you for writing this long explanation, it actually really helps inform how I'm going to book going forward, I ended up just booking for me online about a month ago and it went smooth.
I have read that the first time you book with your miles and smiles for a star award ticket it's hard to book for someone else but the second time after you've already booked a solo ticket apparently it's easier to book for the family not sure if that's true but that's what I've read
Has anyone actually been able to book and take a flight successfully? What happens after booking does it just show up immediately in your united account?
When you book an award flight it will show up in your United account, and if it doesn't, just use the record locator from the confirmation after booking using your miles.
Was the transfer from capital one instant in your experience? Never done Turkish transfer but have done a couple of others and it varies by program. Great video and good to know about United.
Yes the transfer was immediate so if you refresh the page on Turkish you'll see your miles populated once you click transfer in Capital One

Very nice and informative video! I had a question about checking out. I have yet to be able to check this out myself for Turkish air, but I know on Air Canada I was surprised to see that once I click check out there was an outrageous amount of fees I think it ended up being Like $230 just in fees even though the air mile was relatively low at around 12.5K. Is Turkish air similar to Air Canada or do you really only have to pay that $5.60 fee along with the 7.5K miles?

thank you for the video. I got stuck on the 2 tabs, "& Award Ticket" and "Star Award Ticket". When I click on the Star Award Ticket it does NOT take me to another page and it keeps saying that there are no seats available. Any suggestions?
Type the url you see when he navigates to the second page. It’s slightly different (adding book-star). After I did that I was able to get some flights from EWR to LAX for 10,000

HELP! I am flying from Dallas (DFW) to Phoenix (PHX). I have transferred 7500 miles to the Turkish Miles & Smiles and whenever I try to book a "Star Award Ticket" i says that no seats are available, no matter the date I enter. Any suggestions?

I can't get pass the sign me up phase! It won't let me create a password. It keeps reminding me about the rules even though I'm following all of them. The second password box won't even let me input letters, only numbers. I tried to sign up on Edge, firefox, chrome, and iphone! same deal each time. Any advise?

It will give you an error if there are no available flights on that date of travel or if those particular destinations aren't serviced by United Airlines (if you're trying to book their Star Alliance flights).

Unfortunately no, I've tried to do this and when you get to the final checkout page it only allows the Turkish accountholder to be the listed traveler on the reservation

It doesn’t require passport number, then when it does?
When you get to the airport. Don't worry - I've had the same with other carriers, where they don't ask you for your passport at time of booking. I've also had other carriers email me prior to the trip saying it was time to put passport info in.

Yes it's now 10k miles for economy, and 15k miles for business

You can’t. They aren’t a transfer partner.
Chase Ultimate Rewards don't directly transfer to Turkish Miles&Smiles so if flying Turkish Airlines is your objective you would have to get a little creative. I'd say it's worth checking other destinations near where you are flying to (especially if it's specifically in Turkey) with other airlines to book with miles/points, and then booking a positioning flight from that destination to your final one in Turkey with Turkish Airlines. As far as I'm aware, they don't offer award seats from other Star Alliance airlines' currency which can be frustrating, and the only major credit card issuer that partners with Turkish right now is Capital One. Hope that helps.
