This video took quite a while to edit so just as a heads up some of the numbers are slightly different from when I originally recorded it. Nonetheless, I hope you get some value out of it and let me know if you have any questions!
The only thing I’d like to mention is that when comparing United and American you may have not realized it but the cheapest one way American fairs said they were 6,000 points. From my experience American Airlines in many scenarios offers some of the best travel deals on points. Especially if you are using American Airlines points directly. Like 27,000 points first class from ord to los Cabo’s (SJD) or 17,000 points round trip economy plus $140 to MZT mazatlan Mexico which is one of my favorite places to visit. I’m sure you have but I’d dive deeper into what American has to offer.
This video is so much clearer and more useful than any other travel points video I've seen - and trust me, I've watched a ton of them. I wish you were my travel buddy 😆
@@realprofessoroak I’m going to put your video to good use. I earned about 325k in MR points this month between two new Amex cards that I opened (260k in intro offers completed and then multiplier spend).
Hey folks, for the first domestic flight use case with AeroMexico, it seems that since AeroMexico's award rates are now in kilometers instead of miles. That 1:1.6 transfer rate is now used to equalize the value of the points when transferred over to be the same as if transferred over to another SkyTeam partner. Still a decent value for that redemption, but the other options discussed for standard award rates for domestic travel can be better options if there is availability.
@@shachimerchant2433The transfer rate is for the point value of AMEX points to AeroMexico, which means that 12,500 AMEX points -> 20,000 Aeromexico km, which can then be used to book SkyMiles flights once converted to miles if it's on a domestic airline such as Delta.
@@realprofessoroak How do we transfer miles to Delta from AeroMexico once we get the points transferred from Amex? I always get stuck transferring miles with partner airlines
You need to explain how to book flights using another airlines points. There are like dozens of these videos but they always skip this part and it’s the most confusing and difficult steps.
@@realprofessoroak when I search nippon flight on United airlines using points, the flight doesn’t show up unless I put money. Does more flights show up under the points section later on? Does Nippon release more seats later or it’s just what shows up now? Looking for November time frame. And is the way to book, transfer points to virgin Atlantic and then call to book if I see a flight on United airlines? Thanks for your time.
The tough part about booking award flights Is that they are often times not displayed on the website, and it requires you to call the airline to confirm. I'd say given there is an available flight redemption for the dates you're looking to travel, there are multiple methods to get decent value including transferring to ANA directly if the conversion works out.
Thanks so much for the succinct guide with no nonsense! Just wish ANA didn’t have such high taxes and fees. It makes it almost as much as a whole another (cheap) international flight cost.
You're welcome! You're right about the fees for ANA reward flights but there are some exceptions depending on the travel date and service destination which I'll try to cover in another video
I'm seeing in other videos that they are booking through Virgin Atlantic by searching for ANA award seats on the United site. The standard point redemption value is about the same at 90,000 through VA to go from NA to Japan. It seems easier to just use ANA and transfer points there rather than booking through VA for the same amount of points.
I would say from anecdotal experience that United is a safe bet if you want to use it to book actual flights with the "airline fee credit" through United TravelBank. I can't say for certain that you can do that with other airlines so that is what I'd recommend for now.
This is one of the best videos I’ve seen on Amex MR redemption. However, I think you forgot to mention that these redemptions are often unattainable as each flight may open only 1-2 saver award seats. These redemptions may be valuable but there no point unless you can book them with ease. This is why I’m sticking with chase+C1 as the points are more flexible
Thanks, and this is a very good point. The availability is largely going to depend on the travel season and the award seats open for a particular partner airline which can be confirmed by calling them
Generally, it's more convenient and cost-effective to book a round-trip award ticket since the pricing for most services is round trip, although there are standard award charts that have one-way pricing as well. Hope that helps.
I tried booking from Minneapolis to Dallas but as soon as i put in Minneapolis in departure it doesnt show any domestic flights on the destination what am i doing wrong? This is on aeromexico.
Thank you so much for the video! How does cancellation work for award flights through a different airline (e.g., booking Taipei flight on Singapore Krisflyer)? If you cancel do they still give you the full miles back?
Glad you found it useful! For cancellations with Singapore Airlines (Krisflyer Award Flights) right now, there is a $75 fee for cancelling Saver fares, and a $50 fee for cancelling Advantage fares.
I’m not legal and can only fly domestic I’m thinking at front the golf amrd to get points, but i would fly united of American Airlines because that’s what Dulles has how do i use point for united if i can transfer them directly
4:03 - quick question. You mention that it would cost 7.5k Amex points transferred over to Aeromexico to book the 12.5k mile flight seen on Delta. However, Aeromexico's award chart suggests all domestic U.S. flights cost 20k one way during off-season and 22k during peak. Assuming we use the 20k as an example, 20k/1.6 = 12.5k amex points that need to be transferred over to Aeromexico to book the Delta flight that also costs 12.5k on Delta. Aeromexico only seems to be a good option for longer-haul Delta flights or for Cap1 cardholders, who can't transfer points to Delta.
This is a good point. The dynamic pricing of Delta flights still applies but it seems that the redemption value is matched to the point transfer rate for that reason. This would be the same for any SkyTeam partner when booking on AeroMexico
@@realprofessoroak Yup, exactly. Aeromexico has a fixed award chart whereas Delta, Air France and KLM are dynamic in nature. Issue is, in order for the ticket to be bookable through Aeromexico, it needs to have saver availability on partner airlines. But the saver rates on those airlines would more or less be the same cost as Aeromexico's fixed award chart rate (this is WITH Amex's 60% bonus). Another issue with Aeromexico is that they pass on fuel surcharges and impose a minimum $25 award booking fee. Lot of nuances to consider when booking award travel!
@@realprofessoroak No, you got it wrong, maybe you should have read the fine print. AeroMexico uses kilometers for their point system. So yes, the Amex is a 1 point to 1 mile transfer but since Aero Mexico is using kilometers, the rate then is 1 to 1.6.
@@FelixCervantes @Professor Oak I believe they switched from km to premier points recently so that's fine. However, it looks like Aeromexico uses both fixed and dynamic pricing. For the JFK-LAX on Feb 28 trip as shown in the vid, it costs 27,800AM points + $44 in taxes. With Amex's bonus, that would be 18k Amex points, which is still way more than Delta's 12.5k miles + $6 in taxes.

I can see business class availability on Virgin’s site but don’t see the same flight on Flying Blue/AF. Maybe Virgin doesn’t release as many flights to partners. I was searching LAX LHR.
I've noticed this as well with certain partner airlines, but the best way to verify would be to call Flying Blue to confirm they can secure an award flight on Virgin for the service you're looking for. Sometimes business/upper class is just not listed which can be frustrating

Off the top of my head I would recommend trying looking at Star Alliance partners using United as the platform to search award tickets to Japan with your United miles.

How do you actually find award availability with Aeromexico for Delta flights though? I wish you would have showed that in the video (i rewatched in case i missed it)
To search or book partner awards with Aeromexico, you actually have to call them since there is no option to search partner award flights on their website
@@realprofessoroak ah ok, thank you for your quick reply on that! So is it that all Delta flights are available through them and you just have to call after checking Delta? Or is it like only a few are available and you won't even know if your flight is available until you call?

There should be a tab on the results when you look up flights for "Star Alliance" flights in the search results. That way you can use your KrisFlyer miles to book United flights.
Since ANA is a Star Alliance member, you can book from any partner to ANA. If you're booking with ANA's own Mileage Club, you'll need an AMC account to reserve/purchase an international flight award. It should be under the section for "International Flight Awards"
When you look on Singapore's website, under "Book" there is an option for "Redeem Flights". If the redemption search results don't show the United flight you're looking for, you would have to call Singapore to use your KrisFlyer miles for that ticket redemption
This video was great - I have a challenge for you. Create a video of how you would maximize 1million AMEX points. As a matter of fact - I’d pay you $50 to create a video like this.
All that is great in theory, but in reality when it comes to actually booking the flight, u will find there are zero seats available for booking, always, guaranteed you will never find any available seat for redemption. 100% of the time you will transfer points to airline partners because the math looks good, then you simply wait for those points to expire because nothing is ever available for redemption, I’ve personally lost 1.5 million amex points this way and I’ve learned the only way to use amex points is for low value 1.1 cents per point. Anything higher than that is just a pipe dream.
I wish you would focus on more economy or at least include it in each example , more of us that watch these videos are not looking for luxury but good deals to bring the family
I have been trying to follow your methods to book flights using both Capital One and American Express, first through trying to find airlines that I can directly transfer my miles to, then going through the Star alliance partners.First of all, if you cannot transfer your American Express or your Capital One points directly to the airline that's the cheapest you want to use, you have to book the flight through the partner. for example, Lufthansa does not partner with either credit card, so you cannot directly transfer your points. You have to use a partner. I called Lufthansa and held a flight and assumed I could book the same flight giving the partner my reservation code. No such luck! they would not let me transfer miles to them from the partner to Lufthansa, you have to book the flight through the partner. But it turns out there's almost no seats available for the Star alliance to book! Whereas Lufthansa has a few seats. it's kind of like a lost leader. The airlines that American Express primarily uses to go to Europe are so expensive that it's not worth it when I use the star alliance partners to try to book the flight , The airlines give them very limited award point seats. I cannot book the same flight that lufthans is allowing you to book with points so it's a big scam. It's really not as easy as you make it sound.. airlines have it all figured out they're not giving anything away..
Booking through partner alliances requires a lot of luck and patient. I know my friends book their ticket at least an year in advance. The airline companies only release 1 or 2 seats a week or so for these alliances points redemption. So it’s really hard to book it. It takes a lot of energy for sure
Delta actually doesn't allow mile transfers from any other airline partners, although of course you can use Aeromexico CP points on any SkyTeam airline including Delta

how come I don't see book with miles on ANA?
Since ANA is a Star Alliance member, you can book from any partner to ANA. If you're booking with ANA's own Mileage Club, you'll need an AMC account to reserve/purchase an international flight award. It should be under the section for "International Flight Awards"
@@realprofessoroak Gotcha, thank you!
How can you book from singapore airlines to united?
When you look on Singapore's website, under "Book" there is an option for "Redeem Flights". If the redemption search results don't show the United flight you're looking for, you would have to call Singapore to use your KrisFlyer miles for that ticket redemption
@@realprofessoroak thank youuu

Does the united hack still work?
As of now, yes it does still work for United TravelBank
@@realprofessoroak Update? looking to fly United in July and was going to use this Hack!
United is part of the Star alliance and they will not allow star alliance partners to transfer or use other partners awards points.
I wish you would focus on more economy or at least include it in each example , more of us that watch these videos are not looking for luxury but good deals to bring the family
can I hire you to be my amex points advisor lol (super serious)
Can 70,000 points get me two tickets round trip to vegas
Absolutely, 70,000 points is a lot depending on where you are traveling from
Is there a way to transfer Aeromexico points to Delta Miles? If so, how to do this? I’m curious on how this will work.
Delta actually doesn't allow mile transfers from any other airline partners, although of course you can use Aeromexico CP points on any SkyTeam airline including Delta
@@realprofessoroak How do we do this? How do we use AeroMexico miles/points on a Delta flight?
@@tallto I am wondering the same thing. Yes I move miles to aeromexico then how do I book the flight? Is it through aeromexico or delta? I am confused

This is not correct, you cannot book other airlines when transferring points to Aeromexico, I just called them and they do not book other airlines even if they belong to the same alliance.
aint no way
