Biiiig fan of the 3D game graphics but the characters looking (being??) 2D drawings!!
This is bizarre.. i know there might be some legal issues or something idk, but to not have any indication of who the developers are, or their connection to fullbright's past games is a huge miss imo - this game is going to flounder if that lineage isn't clear.
edit: Reading it back, my comment seems harsh, I just think it's off-putting to see a trailer that doesn't name the studio that made the game. It seems like a fairly exceptional circumstance, but either the Open Roads team should have come up with a name, or it should be presented as an Annapurna original project, otherwise it comes across as if it's some kind of orphaned game (which I guess it is, in a way). I'm gonna play it but if I wasn't already a fan of Fullbright's past projects I doubt I would have given this trailer a second thought.
That's because Fullbright was removed from the project apparently. Due to Steve Gaynor's mistreatment of his employees, most people had left and the remaining few people were moved to another studio to continue working on this game. The only person left at Fullbright is Steve Gaynor and he's apparently working on another game. (Found the info on Wiki)
The developer team is listed as "Open Roads Team".

There weren't so many road trips in the fun sense as there were in the "mass migration" sense, but, technically they happened. And of course rich folks would travel more for leisure and/or business. So, yes but mostly for work, and the ones for fun were usually shorter distances than ours are today - obviously

How a Realist Hero Rebuilt a Kingdom kinda touches on this (in a fantasy world of course). Guy is summoned to a world with swords and magic and monsters. He's doing a "road trip" of sorts later in the story.
He talks about how compared to his original world (Earth) that we could travel leisurely. Like @lizzyblitz07 mentioned, it was more "migration" vs road trip because of the dangers involved still (safe area's, wildlife, bandits, food and water).
There would still be danger with current road trips but it's a lot less compared to in the past.
They did, obviously. But they were called "pilgrimages".
