  • My gutter drainage areas always got messy and I wanted to build tiny ponds so that they could be looking interesting as well as be well-working drainages. I built two concrete bowls and, using egg rocks, decorated the places like rain garden. And when we had a rain, this is what I saw.

    I love these tips, and the lack of lame talking and distracting music. Thanks for making it easy to understand, too.

      Thank you so much for your feedback. For recent videos, I also took out the typing sound. 😅

    What a fabulous idea. I life in Miami, Fl where there is rain 65% of the time in my are. I have a corner of my house where this can work well. Thank you. And to boot, I have cement on hand.
    I am going to get rocks so I will stop by the Dollar Store and get something there for the mold.
    Really appreciate your video. ;)

    I'm going to try something like this in my garden. I can hardly wait for spring so I can get started.

      I created this post in Instagram so that you can compare how it was in Summer and how it is now in Winter. :)

    Do you not have mosquitoes where you live? Where I live, one mustn’t have anything that collects and holds standing water, or it is mosquito city.

      Oh, I didn’t cover this but, of course, the standing water attracts mosquitoes. I use mosquito bits. It takes care of the issues well!! Here is the video m.ruclips.net/video/HPL432SBqCo/видео.html

    Great concept. No desire to make bowls so I'll substitute something else (resin, clay or terracotta pots?). Curious about why you didn't extend the downspout so it was closer to the bowl.

      Not sure if you can see it but I have a black extension at the end of the white downspout. I am using that because of the weird shape of the area.

    I would like to know I would really like to know how well it worked and performed when you had several days or just one heavy deluge of rain? I really like your idea

      It has been a year. It is just working fine. As I posted earlier, it was holding up well in winter. instagram.com/p/CLCVwH0BQFj/?igshid=7kvxwkqrbklz

      Any ideas to have that rainwater directed toward a flower bed or a tree 4 self-watering

    I think there are better solutions. The way you did it created standing water. It's better to have a permeable solution, like a rain garden or downspout planter, etc. Over time, the landscape fabric will degrade and the rocks will sink down into the sand and soil. Weeds will show up. ... The slope behind our house has landscape fabric with river rock on top and it is not a good long-term solution. We cleaned it up one year, sifting the rocks with hardware cloth over a tarp, put new landscape fabric, and put the rocks back. It was exhausting, back-breaking work. It's a horrible set up and one I will change at some point. Those rocks sink and sink and sink, deeper and deeper. Also, it doesn't take long before weeds come back, and I refuse to use Roundup to kill them.

      I think you are not wrong. However, sinking is not happening and weeds don’t stay there since I clean up those areas twice per year. In the spring and fall. Whatever the solution may be, there are no permanent ways we could possibly neglect, I believe. And I intentionally created the standing water for birds. They drink and sometimes they bathe. That’s what I like to see. Especially this year we experienced serious drought! They definitely need it. And I totally agree with “banning” round-up!!

    Looks like you made a mosquito farm. The sand is not necessary, nor is cutting the fabric around the bowl. Just prepare the area, lay and staple the fabric, and place enough of the river rock around the bowl to hide the fabric.

      @babochon  2 года назад +2

      No, I didn't make mosquito farm. I used "mosquito bits" simply to avoid mosquitos Please watch this video: ruclips.net/video/HPL432SBqCo/видео.html

    So where does that water go

    • @babochon
      @babochon  2 года назад

      Most of water goes to the ground. The water in the bowl is used for birds and other wild animals. Not to be used for mosquito larvae, I use "mosquito bits" from time to time.
