Underconsumption Core is not only conscious consumerism but also minimalism repackaged in varying degrees.
It offers frugality, Saving money, an antithesis to wasteful overconsumption culture. Which is a growing problem for our planet, environment, home, mental health & physical health. Underconsumption feels like a simplified approachable version of minimalism. The title and term is accessible from the outset. Letting the listener or reader understand the point more clearly. Terminology will always evolve and change...
The point is the 'cause' & 'effect' of a term along with its intention and meaning. The title doesn't matter. How it's delivered doesn't matter. The 'core' feature is that it is received and that it exists in a modern world that is spiralling out of control, in terms of consumption. If the only way to reach a mass audience, about mass consumption, is through appealing partially to the masses, that is, in using media and approachable formats then it is something that I will do here on my minimalist channel. I believe it is of the upmost importance to illustrate there are oppositional ways of living.
This is why on my minimalist channel I like to show physical examples of minimalist concerns sometimes rather than just discuss minimalism. In a world that is becoming harder and harder to focus in. I like to also balance my content with 'enough' to keep the listener tuned in, so my message is delivered. Rather than have them 'zone out'. The average switch between cuts on a film and tv program is just 4 seconds now. Whilst I think a static 'talkie' video can be a practice in concentration, it will ostracise so many people. The most poignant thing being... that these are the people we may want the 'underconsumption' message to reach.
What is the point of making a minimalist video solely for people who already know this message? is it really a practice in elitism?
If the 'new' underconsumption core term, shrouds some of the elitist seeds Minimalism as sewn. The resulting growth can only be an enlightening prospect for others who are unaware of this alternative lifestyle to plant their 'new' values in.

The robot hoover is actually a great purchase in a minimalist home, because the less clutter you have, the better it works! (my brother in law bought one, and put googly eyes on it😆)

I follow anticonsumption, decluttering, and minimalism on Reddit. There is definitely a different vibe on each. A lot more things get thrown away instead of donated on r/decluttering to the point it can be difficult for me to read. The r/anticonsumption group can get a bit extreme or judgmental, but I do appreciate the effort they make for the planet. In the r/minimalism group there is a good effort by most, but some people are caught in the churn of buying and tossing. They remember one in one out, but the are still shopping daily.
I am not a content creator, but I understand what you mean by people stealing others ideas and then not giving credit. There is one RUclipsr with a decent following where I noticed it so much I eventually unsubscribed. I felt so bad for the smaller creators who had done so much work and then had their ideas stolen by someone with a larger following and didn’t want to reward that behavior.

Yes a nice in-between all those 3 groups would be good wouldn’t it 😊 That is very honourable of you, regards unsubscribing to not reward the behaviour. I see my own work getting ‘used’ sometimes and not credited. I also other people’s being plagiarised. I sometimes think if I wasn’t a video creator myself, I would call them out, otherwise I believe they may just think they’ve gotten away with it? Perhaps being ‘called out’ enough would make them realise the decent thing to do. Would be to give credit 🤔 I mean I know their minimalists but does that mean they have minimal thoughts 💭 and ideas 💡 of their own 😂 🤷‍♀️ or they have to recycle other creators ideas. So it’s supportive to hear that it doesn’t go unnoticed. As really it is stolen creativity. Thank You for your long thoughtful comment 🕊️

Gen Z here, started intentional living this year.
'Underconsumption core' to me feels like a digestible gateway into sustainability. Eg. Reusing glass jam jars for food storage rather than buying new plastic containers.
I didn't see it as minimised living initially - just minimised compared to overconsumption. But it makes one think intentionally, even if not on the level of true minimalism.
Maybe we will see a surge in minimalism online in a few months, once people who have watched underconsumption core content research further into sustainable and intentional living.
Personally, I'm happy to see any type of sustainability 'trending'. The more people making an environmental effort, the better 😊
    Great video, thank you ❤️

Also, I think it come somewhat as a pushback against the creators that are doing the "restocking" videos or "Get ready with me" videos. With the restocking videos, people will often "restock" their laundry room, bathrooms or snack drawer or refrigerator with too much stuff. They use so many products and much of it is for affiliate sales.
And with the economy tanking, people are cutting back like crazy.

I don't think as minimalists we need to stop buying things. Its about really considering our purchases carefully rather than just buying things unconsciously. If something really adds value to your life and you can afford it then nothing wrong with buying it. Life is short afterall and we still need to enjoy ourselves!

Totally agree about larger channels needing to start crediting smaller channels instead of pretending they don't watch. It's not going to hurt you to acknowledge a smaller channel. Also, the I love this trend (even if it's just normal living with stuff we already have). Thank you 🙏

I like your channel! You try hard to live your own life and yet see other people's point of view. You make mistakes, you change your mind, you have a super cute robot vacuum! Really, you're a fun human to get to know!

I watch a cleaning channel in America and he is absolutely huge with a massive following, but every video he gives a shout out to smaller channels, he ask people to check them out, they are so appreciative because they usually get a boost of new viewers also.

Yes that’s lovely 🥰 One day when my channel grows bigger I will absolutely do this. I do like to comment on other small channels sometimes too, to give encouragement from a fellow creator. 😊

I’d love a video on your mental process that you go through when you’re considering buying an item.
Curating forever items is what I’m trying to do and I don’t see as much content covering that topic or that mental process.

In the last video I actually discussed how long I put off buying the robot 🤖 vacuum 😂 as I almost felt guilty. My usual tactic is to make myself wait 6 months. And see if I still want. Write a pros & cons list too. The robot came out on top as there were more negatives for not getting it 😊
