- A closer look at our Allison Grand Sport boat, with the Mercury 150 four stroke. We also test a 26" Trophy Plus prop that has been customized. The pitch is too low for a top speed run, but a great all around everyday prop for cruising. This boat goes 80 MPH with a 30" Promax prop but the Trophy is a great cruising propeller.

If you read the article on the 150 4stroke on this hull, it is a great budget setup. 2800 rpm, 40 mph, 10 mpg. Sounds like a winner for cursing around all day on a few bucks.
@@chadmiller1506 10 mpg ....wow ....I know some e tec v4 were running 8 ish mpg on Allison bass boat......10 is amazing ! ....my 2.6 L 2 stroke is doing great if I get 4 mpg

You don't mind sitting on the floor?
No, this boat is great in reasonably rough water. Seats are incredibly comfortable, the floor drops in front of the seats for lots of leg room. Truly one of the best sport boats ever designed.
@@WavetoWaveBoats It's a looker, definitely give it that. And by all accounts a speed demon. Nice combo that.
Been in boats that ride rough and it's no picnic. Usually speed demons give up a softer ride for that demon speed.

No, the regular 150 is a little faster because of the gear ratio. The ProXS would need taller gears, and would be slightly faster then. Not 10 MPH though, lol. It wasn't available when we did this project.
You get 200 more RPM and a little lower gear. Maybe a couple of mph but not 10.
Underpowered! My buddies 21ft Allison bass boat was rated for 150hp, he had a 280 hp merc racing engine with racing lower end, 115, how you going to go 115mph with a 150hp! My point!
Your buddies is underpowered too. If it doesn't break the sound barrier, it's underpowered. 😂

Fast boats are efficient, so it's interesting to note how efficient they are, especially with new engines. And 80+ MPH, definitely not under powered. The 300R is too heavy for this boat.
@@WavetoWaveBoats huh...well, I might have stumbled into the wrong party. I took a look because I'm familiar with Allison brand and I like 19 to 24' speedboats. Where we float no one complains about the frequency of gassing up, and 80 mph is underpowered when everyone else is doing 110.
I wish Allison would make a hull that could handle a 600lb clamp-on. There's a decent size list of those who do.

I would put a older 2.5 280 or even a 2.6 Yamaha stage 3. And I know a guy that had a 22 or 23 grand sport that flew through lake Os chop over 100 with a 300x. My father owned a 20xd bullet with a 300x with a blue printed pad went over 108 and it did 90 with a 225x then he got a heavier stroker that still goes 107 with same old 300x

Lol. No, there are no lightweight high power engines for it currently made. The 150 is great on it.
Take that motor off and put it on a smaller boat. Replace it with a 280!!
No, the whole point was to see how efficient the 150 could be. We got it to 80 MPH and 10 MPG.

I have a Ranger with a 150 Optimax with only 30hrs, I’m the only owner , I also have a Bullet with 225XS sportsmaster lower unit does 85, BUT that’s got to be the ugliest Mercury 150 ever made, my 06 150 2 stroke looks way better than this motor! I would hate to have a awesome Alison with a ugly underpowered motor on it!
It's a great motor. Why is your Bullet so slow? This ugly 150 does 80 MPH.
I would take on any allison and.smoke em even the 225s with my bullet modded 200 that 21 10 hull always handled Any kind of water very well esp high speed the allison hull is more touchy At higher speeds abobe 80 have to balance ot loke a bicycle i ran a 27 four blade prop and could get over 6k rpms
I modded my 200 on a.21 10 bullet those allisons with a 225 could not.take it always past them with ease

You have a nice rig. It’s hard to beat those Mercs and Allisons. The four strokes are awesome.
