    I had a model older than this one that I love. My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use ruclips.net/user/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.

      Only downside of thicker brush is binding. You have to pay attention and cut compression then tension just like if you were using a chain saw or pole saw, but it can be harder because of how much bigger this thing is. But you are right, it does get through it quick!

    These types of blades are great for woody brush and trees up to 1 1/2". They aren't as good for heavy grass and weeds. I have a mix of woody and grassy undergrowth so I make one pass with the saw and another with a trimmer with nylon fingers. I have two attachments so it is easy to change. Some really tough wood takes two or three hits with the blade to get through. Be careful since that which you don't want to cut will fall with the first strike of the blade!

    I'm guessing if you hit something hidden in the brush like a brick with that blade and it comes to a dead stop, do you seriously risk breaking the gearbox or the shaft on the trimmer? I feel like theres some serious risk to the equipment (not to mention some serious blade kick back!). Is there some sort of safety mechanism built in on here to prevent such irreparable damage?

    • @CopperCreekCuts
      @CopperCreekCuts  5 лет назад +1

      This blade will cut up to 2.5" worth of trunks (and probably a little more if safety isn't your primary concern). However if you are looking at a cheaper option, you might want to just buy a sturdy set of bypass loppers that cut as big as you can afford. You provide the power but they are bascially scissors that can cut through similar sized branches.

You can get the correct kind of saw blade for this application on Ebay for around $20.00 Circular saw blades are designed to operate at about 3000 RPM's Blades for brush cutters are made to operate safely at 8 to 10000 RPM's . I can see myself trying to trim near my block wall foundation, and scarring the block, I can see me trying to trim around my above ground swimming pool, and cutting into the pool, I can see me trying to trim around my pool deck wood, and scarring the wood permanently, I can see me damaging my stone walkway,It’s a good idea, for wide open spaces, not to be used around man-made structures.. The place I need to use the string trimmer is around trees I would not want damaged, railings, my pool, my deck, along my house foundation, even using this sawblade at the edge of my grass, when I miss with the string trimmer, it doesn’t dig a hole. But the sawblade will definitely be throwing debris. My deer fence I have around my garden, this sawblade would cut right through it.. my wife gets upset with me now when I scalp the lawn here and there. I always tell her, don’t worry honey, the grass will grow back. But what would I tell my wife if I splinter my deck wood around the base, cut a hole in the pool, cut holes through our deer blocking fence around our garden, permanently scar stone walkway, scar our air-conditioner unit, if I’m trimming around other shrubs, I would end up cutting them off accidentally if I’m not inch perfect.
    I could see this is a great idea for someone that has a lot of wide open space, but not for Close in work for me.

      They sell the conversion kit right next to the blades at Home Depot. You can also pick one up at a local yard equipment dealer. But the conversion kit will run you about $50 instead of just $20 for the blade. However I would keep your blade, because the conversion kit actually comes with a 9 tooth blade that is only good for cutting weeds. The single blades at Home Depot are 80 tooth and are designed to cut sticks, brush, even trees, as well as weeds.

      You would have to consult your user manual (can be found online as well) to see if it is an option. Some can't be converted because they don't have the oomph or gearing. I don't think curved shaft trimmers have a gearbox at the end, and you may need one. Thanks for watching!

    Hi Brad, Thank you for this great vid. Two questions: 1. at 2:45 you said "bend pin leg around power take off shaft counterclock wise", but actually bent clockwise. Which is correct? 2. To add a blade do I need to buy an attachment kit with bolts, lugnuts, upperplate, lower plate, 10mm left threaded nut and cotter pin? Thanks, Jonathan

      1: Turn it so that when the blade is spinning the centrifugal forces are bending it back even more, not trying to undo your bend.
      2: If you don't already have one with the trimmer you purchased, yes. The 3020U came with all this stuff, but I think ECHO sells conversion kits. Hope that helps!

      It should, for most trimmers that is the only way to remove the trimmer head. It might also be on the top of the head, so try looking there.

    Well I'm got a couple of husqvarna's and a cub cadet weed trimmers now.so your video did not make one bit of sense to me about putting a brush cutter blade on my weedeater now.i got a big lawnmoeung business and I have a husqvarna model 128ld that I never use much any more.because i use my 4 husqvarna model 322l's all the time,and a brush cutting blade would be great for my 128ld weedeater.or my cub cadet weedeater just because I never use them much anymore!!!!!

    Why use a saw blade when there are blades made for this purpose? If you plan to try this, make sure your trimmer has a solid steel shaft. A cable shaft won't handle the extra weight, you'll damage your trimmer and void any warranty that may remain.

    • @CopperCreekCuts
      @CopperCreekCuts  4 года назад +2

      I don't understand what you mean. This blade is meant for this purpose. It is an ECHO blade.

    • @tomdavis6225
      @tomdavis6225 4 года назад +1

      @@CopperCreekCuts Your video refers to it as a "circular saw blade". It makes it sound as though it's a jury rig that some random home inventor came up with. More accurately, it's a brush blade. And still, due to the extra weight over a nylon line, cable shafts will wear out much more quickly. So I hope the users will have solid metal shafts on their trimmers when using blade attachments.

      I think it vibrates more because you are cutting much different growth. I am not sure it is just the blade's fault.

    The instructions say to adjust carb when adding the blade but do not give any details. I imagine the unit may run hotter thus they want the more fuel to cool. I called Echo and they told me to go to a dealer.

    • @CopperCreekCuts
      @CopperCreekCuts  5 лет назад

      Well that wasn't helpful, lol. I didn't even see that notice in the manual, I will have to look again and read more carefully!

    • @magicone9327
      @magicone9327 5 лет назад

      Copper Creek Cuts Lawn Care if you know how to adjust a two stroke carb then it's no different. Turn the low speed jet counterclockwise to add if needed at idle. Turn high speed jet in or out to get the highest rpm then turn 1/16 to 1/8 turn in for final run adjustment. If you don't turn the high speed jet in just a little it will operate to lean and hot. If the carb is a single screw like a tillitson carb then adjust in or out until it runs at highest rpm. This is only correct if all variables are correct, like fuel mix, a clean fuel not months old and a clean fuel SYSTEM with no crap anywhere especially the inside workings of the carb.

    • @magicone9327
      @magicone9327 5 лет назад

      Copper Creek Cuts Lawn Care oh yes I forgot to mention that if you use fuel that has ethanol in it you are asking for problems. I always use non ethanol fuel as it does not break down within a month causing contamination, chemical precipitation and the snot you find if you open up a carb with problems. It will eat up fuel lines and anything rubber/nitrile in side the carb.

      You would need to get additional hardware (this 3020 came with the hardware and guard needed) but yes, in theory. Only issue is you will have a lot less power with the 225 than the 3020.
