Just swapped out the hinges on our 70 Mustang. WOW absolutely best money I have spent yet!! Your video made it much easier then pulling the whole hood off and the seat belt trick is so easy. Thanks! The original hinges were beyond worn out and they didn't really feel that way.
Thank you for this SUPER-helpful video. I was dreading this job, but now I'm actually excited to replace the hood hinges on my '67 Mustang. Love the seat belt trick; I'll use that for sure! 🤙😉
Thank you for a great video. This was really helpful. I was intimidated by having to do this job by myself but after watching this I was able to complete the job. Love the seatbelt/spring tip.
Luckily, my project's paint job is already going the way of the dodo, but this has been a great video! Calming voice and nice steps. This is the first job I want to put into it for safety's sake. My hinges are BAD. And certainly no reusing its rusty old springs
Oh boy. My 3 girls (now into their 20s) would still freak out if they caught me using a towel with Ariel on it 😛 Nice video. Fords had the issue you covered here, but the GM/Fisher problems were far worse; I still cringe when someone manhandles a giant Impala hood without lubricant and working the hinges first before trying to close it. Once it’s bent at the hinges, it’s done. And I saw hundreds of big GMs with ruined hoods. Thanks for posting.
"Boogger around"? How the hell ya gonna work on an old car w/o booggering around?! Seriously, you helped me align the fiber glass hood on my 67 Mercury Cyclone. Looks nicer now, w/o the 1/8" gap on one side and 3/8 inch gap on other side!! Now it's 1/4" on both sides! Used the factory made hinges though. Thanks!! :D
nice job. Takes a lot a patience. Like the way you took your time. Also like the seat beatsping removal tool and the way you secured the piece of wood so it would fall out... A+++++ Do they make these hinges for a 1965 mustang?
The ones we sell are made by Dynacorn, and Dynacorn does makes some for the 65-66 Mustang, but we have not tested those since there were no Cougar in 65-66. You are looking for Dynacorn PART #: M3543X & M3542X. Stear clear of the ones made by All Classic Parts (ACP).
If you hood is too high at the cowl this is the easiest way to adjust it. Raise the hood, loosen the bolts inside the fender, raise the hood just a little, retighten the inner fender bolts and close the hood to check alignment, if still too high repeat the procedure till satisfied . You do not have to replace the hinges .
Great job! VW kept my car for 7 weeks after a frontal accident, but after repalcing the hood + fenders thet could not adjust them: there is a huge gap between the hood, fenders, headlights, grill....everything is just a mess! Amateurs, 7 weeks and not capable to deliver!
How about doing a video that totally explains how to lower the rear of the hood....I cannot find this anywhere...the hood is high at the rear near the windshield.
I actually saw a guid how to adjust hood hinges, what you have to do is loosen the hinge and lift the hood so the hinges rotates back, tighten the bolts, and carefully close the hood, mine worked perfect, it was nice and low on that side, then I id the other side and that too came out great....I did not need the new ones.
You showed how to raise the hood when its to low, but didnt really show how you lowered it. I know this is a very common problem. My 67 Mustang, is the hood is about 1/4 inch to 1/2 an inch higher than the cowl. And my hinges are down as far as the can go on the adjustment holes on the fender. I was told, to raise the hinges to lower the hood......????? I can't find a video showing this situation. I find videos of people lowering the hood, but with adjusting the hinges on the bolts on the fender area. Mine are already bottomed out. Now what?
We only sell parts for the 67-73 Cougar, and list what those also cross to in other Ford/Lincoln/Mercury makes. The 77 LTD does not cross with that vintage of Cougar.
Hi Emil, We are not sure if these cross with the Fairlane. The hood hinges for the 67-70 Cougar were Ford part numbers C5AZ-16796-B, C8AZ-16796-A, and C9AZ-16796-A for the passengers side and C5AZ-16797-B, C8AZ-16797-A, or C9AZ-16797-A for the driver side. The new hinges will replace any of those Ford part numbers. You could check with the online Fairlane forums and see if any of those part numbers cross with the Fairlane. A couple forums you could check: www.fordmuscleforums.com/forums/fairlane-pages.204/ or www.fordforums.com/forums/fairlane-torino.514/
We currently do not offer a printed catalog, but all of our new and many of our used parts are listed on our website: www.CougarPartsCatalog.com. If you don't find a part you are looking for on our website, just send us a message via our website "Contact Us" page.
Mostly just drivetrain stuff, and a few bits and pieces here and there. We're not Fairlane experts by any means! Not sure if the hood hinges are the same or not, but the same concepts apply.
More are on the way! Our sale went better than expected! Hit the "notify me" button and you'll get an email as soon as we get the next batch. Should be pretty soon.

Working on my '68 and this was an amazing help!!!!

I'd trust your to work on my prized Falcon, Fairlane, Comet, Cougar or Mustang any time. Great video ! Thank you.
Finally had them in stock and I’m working on the alignment of the hood for my ‘69 this week. Thanks for the video, will help a lot!
Great video I’ll install my chrome hinges to my Ford xc falcon now cheers

Thanks for the video! It helped me change my 68 mustang hinges!
Great vid Don and Andrew! I'm sure this could apply to many different makes and models as well.
Yes! Exactly my issue. Thank you for the experience and knowledge sharing!
Good point about the latch! Great video...the cougar ain't bad either.
What a calm pro!
Neat trick there for removing the springs!
Nice. I'll use your tips on my Mazda 3 hood.
Thanks for another great video!

Excellent. Needed to know how to install new springs.
Best I ever seen

Great video! Thanks for the help.
Were the undersides of the Cougars black from the factory?
Thanks again,
Hood were painted all the way around, the under side would be painted as well.
I have all the tools needed except the Arial towel. Does Summit Racing carry that?
It looks like this should solve the hing problem with my 70 Mustang - I hope

Actually this is a video about just that. If your hinges are adjusted to the max down position and the hood still sits too high you need these hinges.

No fix for that, you need to buy our hinges as your have been sprung.
I want some any hope of getting more hinges in stock?
The manufacturer is backordered on these hinges, we are hoping to see some more around the end of the year.
can i get these hinges for a 77ltd posted to the uk , thanks.

@@WestCoastClassicCougar , Ok, thanks.
Would these hinges be compatible with a 67 Fairlane? I'm trying to find beefier hinges for my rig.
Hi Emil,
We are not sure if these cross with the Fairlane.

Sorry, we only sell parts that cross with the 67-73 Cougar

How close are cougar parts to Fairlane parts?I have a 1968 Fairlane
Mostly just drivetrain stuff, and a few bits and pieces here and there. We're not Fairlane experts by any means! Not sure if the hood hinges are the same or not, but the same concepts apply.
