      Shawn Yao
Robomaster’s program seems to take Dean Kamen’s philosophy of making STEM like a sport to its extreme. While at their core they are both robotics competitions I think they are pretty fundamentally different.
FRC’s focus is on making high school teams build functional 120 pound robots with basic materials and provided components like motors and processing units, and then programming them so that the drive team can actually use the robot efficiently and effectively. The experience doesn’t change much because the participants are all in high school, they only participate for four years before they leave the program.
Robomaster seems to be much more focused on the sport-y and entertainment of it, which is really cool and something I think we need more of to further interest students. It also seems to focus more on actual AI (or at least the ICRA event does) so that robots can compete completely autonomously.
I am not completely up to speed about robomaster, but it looks like it is really only for programming and operating while FRC is for building, programming, and operating.

Hey Peter, I heard you say in the beginning that you were disappointed we didn't have Robomasters in the US. I wanted to tell you about something called FIRST! It's an organization that was founded by the inventor of the Segway. FIRST has 4 age groups and each group is a given a new topic or game each year, I compete in FIRST FRC, FRC is a competition where each year a new game is released and we have 6 weeks to build a fully functioning 125lb robot to complete the task given to us. At the end of the 6 weeks each team competes usually in two regional events against 40ish teams give or take. The winner of the regional moves on the World Champs. Currently there are around 3600 teams and close to 91,000 students world wide, the majority of those teams are in the USA! It's massive fun and inspires tons of kids to go into engineering. All 5 of my team's mentors that now work in engineering in the Silicon Valley were former FIRST Students! I think it'd be cool if you just explore it during your freetime because it truly is amazing the effect FIRST has on students!

I was in a club in high school called robotics club. The whole thing was put on by “First Robotics”, it was meant as a way to get kids involved is science. It’s all over the world. Every year First comes out with a new “game” you have to build a robot for with your school team. There are a few things that all of the games every year have in common like three teams v.s. Three teams, there are different ways to score, and there is always defensive and offensive roles. The games are all structured around themes, steam punk, space, recycle rush, strongholds just to name a few, the new season starts around January if I remember right. The new game will release at the same time for everyone in the world with a livestream as soon as that happens your 6 week build season starts. It’s cool check it out and maybe even start a team.

I kinda want to see a tear down of this. Basically give us a parts list, give us comparable parts, price the parts out with general labor time, do a price comparison; and maybe show off some not-so-standard stuff that you might find inside of it, like if the wheel motors are encoded. Maybe even get us part numbers if there's any components that're off the shelf. And a closer look at that control board and speculation on potential future expandability from DJI, and expandability through robotics projects.
This is assuming it's easy to take apart.
Then do the usual, put a flamethrower on it.
