Thanks for the encouraging comment. I wonder what you would think about our other performance pieces, visible at www.OperaFrontier.org. Our two most recent pieces have won awards at film festivals.
The Count of Manchua is such a bastard, wooing Maddalena while Gilda is a witness.AND,spoiler alert, because she still loves the count she dies in the end. This is some of Mr and Mrs Verdi's boy Giuseppe's best work.Rigoletto,a great work,I cry at the end every time.
@@rigelb9025 Yes. This scene was a complete surprise to the guests. We worked it out with the hotel management in advance, of course. But even the hostess (seen trying to seat the tenor and mezzo) was surprised. She later explained that she was looking around wondering if hotel security would arrive to carry away these disruptive patrons. Thank goodness they had been prepped.
If I went by looks alone, this is miscast considering that Rigoletto (the bass-baritone, white shirt) is Gilda's (the soprano, lady in red) father, and the Duke of Mantua (the tenor in the suit) is supposed to be young, dashing and handsome. But hey, for those voices (!) and that acting, I'll gladly suspend belief! I just wish they had also done the bit before the quartet - "Un di, se ben rammentomi" - that would have really set the whole scene.
Guilty as charged. Miscasting is only one of the heresies committed regularly by Opera Frontier. Have you seen our Hip Hop Mozart (Mille Torbidi from Don Giovanni), or the sextet from Lucia set in a board room? Furthermore, we dance to Handel, work out to Bizet and feature two Violettas sharing a restaurant shift. More at www.OperaFrontier.org.
@@OperaFrontier I love the casting! Plenty of options to watch the song in it's traditional context and narrative. To an audience that doesn't know the lyrics, the music, the casting and the acting paint a compelling story. Maybe enough to pique their interest in the opera itself, and certainly enough to entertain. You still get a wayward tenor, an amused mezzo, a betrayed soprano and a protective baritone. Maybe it suggests that tenor and soprano are married, and that the baritone is a gay best friend instead of father-- but that all makes it HILARIOUS.
I agree that the folks that are taking it all in on their tiny cameras-even when they see that there are professional, paid cameramen shooting in HD. Don't they realize that we were there to share this with the world? Next time leave the shooting to the pros and let the puny screens and lousy video in your purse and enjoy the moment!
The only thing I found lacking was the fact that we couldn't hear the first tenor and his lady when they were in the BG! ---That and the stupid cell phones. Leave it to the pros and enjoy the entertainment!
Hate the slap. It totally renders the ending useless. She doesn't just die, she sacrifices herself for the Duke. He was the one who was supposed to be murdered by Maddalena's brother. Maddalena convinces him to kill the first one who comes to the door instead and deliver that body to Rigoletto. Gilda hears this and goes into the inn. Maddelena has regrets but a deal is a deal so Sparfucile stabs Gilda and tosses the body into Rigoletto's boat. But there's one final scene where the curse of the first act is fulfilled. The consequences of lust and vendetta. Cheesy Hollywood ending here. Really a shame because the singing is superb except for Maddalena who forgot her lines.

Apologies for the lousy audio. It was a real challenge to record a live performance in such a huge space on our artists budget. Especially 10 years ago!! We did our first studio recording in 2019. What do you think of Rejoice Abyssinia by Opera Frontier?
YES !!! My all time favorite music quartet " la Bella figlia dell'amore " from Verdi's Rigoletto so beautifully sung. WOW !!!
A fantastic performance leaving many of those at their tables (and me) awestruck 👏👏👏
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it!!
The lady in red is great. totally immersed in her role. Great acting!
Agree completely, just great!
She is
Thanks for the comment. It means a LOT to a singer to be recognized like that.
@@AlfredHabeland You comment creates a welcome incentive to keep performing. Thank you for the encouragement
@@heya1957 Returning to performing after the Grand Corona Pause is a daunting task. Comments like this are extremely important. Thank you.
This was brilliant and entertaining. It must've been a blast to see/hear. Brava/bravo!

Great singing, great acting!
That was soooo entertaining!
So glad you like it. It was really fun to surprise all those people.
fabulous and hey, that younger guy is fit!!
Bravi! Love the slap, a long overdue innovation.
Interesting you said that. Many of my women friends confided in me they enjoy seeing a guy get slapped by a woman-whether it's real or acted!
Finally, Gilda fought back! Great performance!
A belated thank you Lizzie. Opera Frontier's unofficial tag is "empowering our heroines, one scene at at a time". Gilda gets a backbone, right?!
this is great. if iw as a guest i would be delighted wow!
WOW no translation needed, Very beautiful piece of human spirit! A pure Art!!
You comment makes us very happy. We tried hard to have the actions speak for themselves, so even opera-phobes might relate to it.
Wonderful "Rigoletto"!
Rigoletto is simply wonderful at any stage ! VIVA VERDI
Ditto. Viva .
Truly wonderful- Singing and acting . Bravo !
Yeah, I liked the part where she bitch-slapped him, and the singing was good, too.
Stupenda Interpretazione. Viva Verdi!
Merci de n'avoir pas choisi le sempiternel Libiamo !
J'adore ce quatuor de Rigoletto
Grazie, Fausto
(Roma, Italia)
It is the Duque of Mantua...not the count of manchua!
Congratulations any way for showing how alive is Verdi & the opera!
Just perfect

Was this performance completely impromptu and unbeknownsted to the guests of the hotel?? If so, it's even more awesome.
