You hit on a few things to reflect on. What stood out most immediately was the egregious use of CGI currently. The new movies look like video games, where you get the odd close up "reaction" shot of an actor's face, compared to the older movies where the CGI is used more for enhancement. It's almost like there's no cinematic direction for what things should look like other than "okay, insert CGI action scene here with lots of fighting and explosions", whereas the older ones had every frame thought out. The new product is almost unwatchable in my opinion and lacks weight. Contrast that to some of the old Bond stunts, or others done with real stuntwork, where you can feel your stomach fall watching them. The other thing is that we've obviously lost the definition of a hero. Heroes aren't heroes because they're the bestest or the strongest. Heroes are heroes because they do the right thing and are willing to risk themselves in the face of adversity for the better good. It's because of the choices they make, and because they're willing to struggle against all odds and beyond all hope, willing to take a beating, willing to sacrifice and push themselves in every way possible for their ideal. I'm never been huge on the super-hero genre, but I will admit that early MCU was enjoyable and inspiring before it became more about the production. Another excellent and thought provoking video! PS - just watched Devotion last night - an excellent film that shows what true heroism is (and tackles social themes far better than anything pushing 'the message')
Very well put my friend! Totally agree, not just with the visual differences but the whole point of what makes the hero- they’re all willing to make the ultimate sacrifice in service of a greater good, a topic I meant to cover in this video more in depth, but in editing just wanted to visuals to speak for themselves Haven’t caught devotion, will have to add it to my list to watch!
I think you are selling yourself short with these almost clickbait videos. I admire your insights/analysis of visual storytelling, as a DP , talking about lighting, framing , etc. That, I think, you’re really good at and is why I subscribed. Just my opinion.
Amen. I tried to watch some of the newer entries, but the Hawkeye series was the last straw. I could not watch it (I loved Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye in the movies).
It’s sad to see an entire mythology created and then destroyed within such a short amount of time. Cinema has so many things to teach us, because it’s a mirror of ourselves, that is easier to pull apart, analyze, and understand. Can golden ages ever last? Can anything stop the erosion of past legacies of greatness? Will the gods inevitably die? Thank you again my friend, for the questions.
Iron man 1 is perhaps the most 'movie' out of all them. The characters feel real rather them playing themselves. Bridges plays an amazing villain and I wish he had more screen time.
I’m not an MCU fan, so I’m just an outsider looking in, but it’s plainly evident how unwatchable and farcical these films have become. It seems like 2016 was the turning point, with the fake Ghostbusters movie, when Hollywood decided that not only would they stop trying, but they’d go out of their way to ruin anyone in that town who still cared. Actually, I’d say it predates that, with Jar Jar Abrams fake Trek movie in 2009.
I think you’re right, and trek really took such a hard hit. Heard positive reviews from latest season of Picard but from how the previous 2 were handled, don’t know it I’m up for it
From true heroes to a parody written by middle aged people projecting their own traumas and saltiness towards the world. The MCU ended for me with Endgame. No Tony, no game.
Well said. While it wasnt perfect, endgame a great finale, and it’s a shame they didn’t have the sense to end it on the ultimate high note at their peak popularity
Stan Lee was the true mastermind behind all MCU,look what have they done to MCU after the endgame and after his passing.Tom Holland's Spiderman until No Way Home rumored as his "last string" of work, so thats why it ended superb in cinema.
In other words, the NOW team plain stinks. The THEN camp made it seem almost realistic and possible… the current iteration is simply cheap CGI and even worst writing.
Phase 4 and 5 so far have been handled so poorly. Its no wonder no one is hyped for MCU anymore. Quantity over quality pushing "THE MESSAGE" has killed the MCU. As someone who has a comic collection of about 300+ Marvel comics and an additional 400 ish of X-Men comics (some in large book collections) how in the hell is it that I've only bothered to watch 3 movies and 1 show from Phase 4 ? The only one I enjoyed from Phase 4 was Spiderman and that was done by Sony! Until they have a massive change in direction and change in how they produce these shows/movies then I really can't be bothered. I may catch the odd one, just out of morbid curiosity but im pretty much done and I don't think im the only one.
The Daredevil chapter displayed it perfectly - the greatest character assassination in all the MCU, in my opinion. He went from being a flawed, multilayered character to a punchline in an unfunny joke. Terrific music, btw,
They were going to fire Keving Feige after endgame but for some reason held on to him. Money was probably the reason, Endgame did so well of course. I think it was a bad decision though. It really should have ended in that form then. Not that I wouldn't have wanted to see more from those characters, but maybe allow them to continue their own story through to completion, and in their own way. I'm currently editing Wakanda Forever to mostly remove Ironheart and all that fluff. I think it can work well as it's own movie. Takes a lot of work to fix these though, and I won't be doing Quantumania or any after that. I'm going to finish my 3 way split of infinity war and endgame and then I'm done with MCU.
As bad as it has gotten it had it's run, personally if the movies were still as good I still wouldn't be watching them. It's been like 12 years of these things and I started to grow tired after the solid civil war movie, not cause it was bad but because it was oversaturation, but it did finish really strong with end game. I think the mcu has ran it's course and it's time for the genre to rest a bit and awaken later down the line. Because right now every movie looks and sounds the same and I can't tell them apart. Creative failures and horrible writing has done it in, but it was also only a matter of time before it felt stale.
Ooh, thanks for reminding me of some movies I want to rewatch ☺️ The only post-Endgame Marvels I enjoyed were Black Widow (though it really should’ve been released sooner) and Hawkeye (because it was at least entertaining and not too preachy, unlike the other shows).
Dammnnn I was just about to comment about the music because I liked it so much, was going to ask for the name of it hahaha, I had no idea you were also into music, that's super cool!

I appreciate the honesty my friend! Wanted to try something different here and will be back to my typical style of videos
This is why the MCU ended with Endgame as far as I'm concerned. Nice cut.
Thanks! And completely agree
No Way Home and hopefully Guardians 3 are the Epilogue but yeah, I'm pretty much done with MCU after that..
Yep, completely agree.
Amen. I tried to watch some of the newer entries, but the Hawkeye series was the last straw. I could not watch it (I loved Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye in the movies).
Dear Eric,
An excellent representation of how far they have fallen. Well played.
Frank.
Thank you Frank!

Very well said my friend!

A few pictures are worth a thousand words

👍🏻
Was expecting a long video essay & deep analysis but this was way more effective ... no words needed ... genius video
Thank you so much!
I don't know if I should laugh or cry. 😅
This is the another Endgame
Not your most subtle work mate LMAO. Solid, accurate, fair, but on the nose so hard I might need splints haha
😂

It's as if they know that nobody really cares about Marvel after Endgame.
In other words marvel is trash and ruined itself 😂
Has CGI gotten worse?
This literally made me cry.

Completely agree, Daredevil is the most tragic, was by far the best marvel production.
And thank you very much!

Really was a poor decision- sounds like a great editing project!
Wow. Perfectly said. No words needed
Thank you!
So much CGI and forced characters. Square pegs being put into round holes and a complete loss for story with regard to real heroes
Completely agree, well said

Very well said, and mcu fatigue definitely had set in long ago

Frankly my friend, I do give a damn.
