    I remember when i saw this movie in theatres, what an experience. It was truly scary, and the entire room was totally engaged in it, terrified. It was a magical moment. You dont get these experiences with current generation horror movies.

    The performances of the actors here were solid enough to make me care for them and their actions throughout the movie were realistic and grounded completely off the mold for movies of this genre which effectively sold the idea of "this could be any of us in our homes" that much better and gave a lot of realism and a breath of fresh air to the horror genre that wasn't having the best of times.even though fake footage style of film-making was already a thing before this movie, it was because of this film the genre really made a comeback and proved that with a solid script and not a huge budget you can still get a phenomenal experience from a horror movie. Great review Jason.

    In the original ending after Micah dies Katie comes upstairs and rocks back and forth on the floor for hours until the police come and when she hears them come up the stairs she walks towards them with the knife and gets shot. That whole sequence is crazy. You hear her friend come in downstairs and scream when she finds Micah’s body. Then slam the door and leave then shortly after the police come. That ending is such a chaotic climax I fucking love it. They should have never changed it.

    I'm really glad you pointed out them using lines to make some of the sequels. I like how they can make a movie from a couple lines like you said haha

    Just a minor note: in the US, The Last Broadcast came out theatrically before The Blair Witch Project did 🙂 so not an in between.
    This remains my favourite PA film, I love the subtlety and rather ambiguous question of what the entity is, it suits the tone. Micah - ARGH - such an asshat that drove my last nerve 😂 I thought his real douchebag moment, among many, was bringing in the ouija board after promising Katie. I really didn't want him to survive!
    Otherwise it is an effective, intense little watch and I loved Katie Featherston in this. And the ending 👌 even with Micah grating on me I really do like this one.
    Entertaining as feck 😁 fantastic review J!

    The original ending to this movie makes the movie 10x better in my opinion. It should have never been changed. I have a bootleg version with the original ending. I can’t find a dvd or blu ray with that version. Still a huge fan but with that ending the movie is just crazy.

    I think this first film was very cool. Parts of it were genuinely creepy even during the daytime (when the demon creature breathes on her and her hair blows back). If you have a dark imagination then this film is good fun. I prefer the alternate ending where...SPOILERSSSSS the cops come and blow away Katie.

    Even now when I watch PA, even though I know what is going to happen, I am still tensed up waiting for the bangs and various "activities" to happen. The first film was the only time I literally did jump out of my chair in the cinema.

    Well, I guess we couldn't always agree on everything. This is the first time that you and I have a really different opinion on a film (or game). I'm not a fan of found footage sub genre (except for some ,like Creep and its sequel ). But I respect your opinion and enjoy your discussion about the series a lot Keep cool !

    • @sinistercinemareviews5420
      @sinistercinemareviews5420  6 лет назад +2

      It was bound to happen haha but at least it’s a sub genre. You are just opposed to the whole idea and not just this film

    • @evalineevaline8852
      @evalineevaline8852 6 лет назад

      I actually do not opposed the idea of genre. I believe that all art forms are subjective and It's just that most found footage couldn't connect with me and that's all. I don't have anything against it. I also gave it all a shot first. (and Paranormal Activity :Tokyo night is quite ok for my personal taste. ) I too love the slow burn movies . :D (esp Osgood Perkins's movies.. I know they are quite "pretentious" to some. But for me it's really great) But like I said all art forms including films are subjective. We all are allowed to have our own opinion. :D hope you'll stay cool. Rock on. Have a great Easter and.. April fool's.day \m/

    I am a fan of the series as well and I thought the sequels actually added to the storyline and gave it more depth, as good prequels/sequels should.
    Quick funny story: The first time watching this my power went out about half way thru. That was a little creepy.
    And I definitely have to go with the ending with the sliced throat. That stays with you more than a jump scare at the screen.
    Ps. I got the same shirt.

    correct me if im wrong, but didnt they use binary sounds in this to envoke the fear? if so, its cheap as hell and goes against being a talented filmmaker. its the eeri, tense feeling you speak of. its a cheap magic trick. thats why it hits u different in the theater or with a great sound system. its cheap and kind of neglectful of the craft itself. im sure this isnt the only film to do that either. unfortunately.

      Sinister Cinema Reviews its called Infrasound. i dont know why i put binary that made no sense. yeah, i found out they were accused of using it and also found a website that explains it better www.strangerdimensions.com/2013/06/21/infrasound-the-fear-frequency/ and www.atlasobscura.com/articles/how-the-hidden-sounds-of-horror-movie-soundtracks-freak-you-out infrasound is basically sound thats below 20 hz, which is lower than the human ear can detect but the brain still processes it, which can cause fear anxiety depression and even make you think youre being haunted in real life. its interesting. i still think its cheap and hack film making but still i was uninformed when i commented. still. i stand by it. lazy ass mother fuckers

    I thought Paranormal Activity 1 was somewhat fresh, albeit in the same vein as Blair witch. But it went downhill from there with each sequel imo. it lost its freshness and became less scary and more laughable.
    On a side note: it was fucked up that the news and commercials lied to us about Blair witch being real (found footage in the mountains) , that should be illegal. I was also 13 and very gullible.
    Xoxo ❤️ ur reviews

    The Last Broadcast (1998) was before The Blair Witch Project (1999). Ive seen the first three Paranormal Activity movies - I liked the first one quite a bit, the girl in it is hot as hell. :o)
