Killer Whales: Orcas rip off rubber in boat attack off the coast of Portugal

- A lone sailor has told of the terrifying moment his yacht was attacked by killer whales which ripped off his rudder and left him fearing for his life.
Phep Philouceros, was forced to broadcast a Mayday distress alert - only used by sailors if they are in a life-threatening situation - during the attack.
A five-strong pod of orcas followed his 30-foot yacht as it sailed just off the coast of Cape Vincent in Portugal bound for Royan, France, on Monday.
In a terrifying attack, part of which Phep caught on video, two of the huge creatures peeled off and started attacking his boat.
One can been seen 'stalking' the yacht and attacking the rudder, which was destroyed "in one minute", forcing Phep to send out the Mayday.

Exactly. Others post here, they are intelligent playing with boats or they just learnt it. Wrong. They don't want us around. Who can blame them? Again, human arrogance leads to conclusions like animals don't think, they don't feel, it is all instincts and learnt behaviour.

These mammals are NOT ATTACKING the boats, they have discovered that boats are interesting items to play with. Orcas are very intelligent and curious animals and pass behavioural traits to others in their vicinity. Most probably one individual in the recent past discovered that sailing boats have wiggly crunchy bits attached which are fun to play with. NO BOATS HAVE ACTUALLY BEEN "ATTACKED"

Once the rudders are removed though, I haven't seen one video of them continuing to play with it. Similar to the liver area in sharks, I think they have discovered a weak spot in the boats. These are apex predators and although there have been no recorded attacks on humans in the wild, it's not wise to assume they are your friends and want to play. Orcas are calculated and much more intelligent than people give them credit for.
Orcas say play.
Humans say attacked.
Possibly too politically incorrect for some.

That's the problem. They did spell check the title, they just didn't look at it. Now of course its benefiting the algorithm with everyone commenting on it. In fact lots of channels make mistakes intentionally for this very reason. One of the many instances where nonsense and inaccuracy outperforms considered reliable content on social media.
They're also referring to 'Orca's in the Mediterranean', while showing a sailing boat off the coast of Portugal, so not in the Mediterranean. Either another mistake or they should have clarified the link

Oh please 🙄, it's clearly a game or sport to them. They'll spend hours chasing and drowning a grey whale calf only to eat it's tongue and not just because they're hungry. It's fun for them and they're intelligent animals, stop with it's Jaws: the revenge nonsense.

Going from the direction of the Bay of Biscay, N Spain or Northern Europe to the Med, there is no other route. It’s one of the busiest sea passageways in the world.

I AGREE THEY WERE PLAYING!!!!!! NOT ATTACKING!!!! if they were really attacking i don't believe there would have been a single person that would have survived !!!!!! That was a whole small pod !!!!!!!! And these hoomans may have intentionally or unintentionally pissed them off even if they weren't playing but I think they were! Because it would be nothing for them to have capsized that boat and they do know how !!!!!!!!!

my cousin in spain was telling me some fishermen in one village are now on about shooting these creatures. Two men who wernt paid out after a insurance claim on one damaged boat last year were arrested but released for lack of evidence for letting of rounds at one.
I would 100% shoot anything that attacked my vessel and endangered my life.
My cousin said the complete opposite.
