Finally, a new chapter of my "Mysteries of the Fog" series! This time, we will talk about Vigo: A character that is super important to the lore of Dead By Daylight, but also one of the most mysterious characters ever added. He was the creator of The Hatch, as hinted by the developers during a lore stream, and he was the reason Blight became the monster he is now. Also, I am so sorry. I did clickbait with the thumbnail. The man that appears there is The Alchemist, AKA The Blight AKA Talbot Grimes. It's not Vigo, I just thought the thumbnail looked hard 🔥 On my defense, I didn't put any arrows pointing towards him so technically, I didn't specify that Blight was the man who created the hatch! 🤓
Great video! I learned a lot about the man himself, and realized how much I miss the Hallowed Blight event. I believe Vigo escaped the fog and founded the Imperriati, the only group with the strength and knowledge to battle the Entity. Full theory in the comments!
I’m pretty sure every dev does that lol they look at all the communities ideas and improvise them. They basically wait for the community to write their own story lol
I'm 50/50 on it, It either sounds like they're improving the whole thing, or it sounds like they never actually told each other how much they're ALLOWED to reveal at a time, so nobody wants to be the one to say anything which actually confirms something
@@Kelvoraax This makes the most sense to me. DBD has been around for a long time, they've had years to smooth out and cultivate good lore. But I can see how that can feel muddled with each killer they slap out. Some of them not really making sense lore wise like the knight, the knight was only added because the DBD building is right around the corner from For Honor's building and they got buddie buddie. Plus none of Knights add ons or offering really add anything to the lore or hint at anything.

I know its not a game but Harry Potter is an example i think of, JK Rowling knew generally what would happen in her 7th book before she even published the first.
I prefer the idea that Vigo was able to escape via the void. The Entity does need to feel incredibly powerful, but if it were to be literally unbeatable it would suck the fun and excitement out of the lore since you would always know that no matter what the survivors would always lose. Vigo being able to escape also adds to my theory that survivors with some sort of power can actually survive and escape the trials. Vigo with his unnaturally high intellegence and adaptability and Alan Wake with his typewriter. These characters add a sense of plausible conflict which keeps the lore interesting.
@@kou4087Well in the games and in terms of DBD lore. This was Originally ONE of the many escape attempts from the Dark Place that Alan tried. In the games hes able to "Project" himself into the stories he writes to both continue writing but also escape through it. (Though this kind of gives him like a weird sudo dementia in that hes writing what comes next but unable to actually know it at the same time as hes part of the story itself. It puts his sanity to its limits) Granted in his bio, the fog came to him. Chances are is that he wrote a copy of the room for the event to happen. So in reality, Hes actually not in the entity's realm more so, hes projection of himself was lured into the fog. Most likely when he dies or gets sacrificed in the trials. He wakes back up in his writer's room. Technically escaping but at the same technically not being there either. (Again in the games you can play one of 3 escape attempts from Alan but when he "Scraos" the idea, it sort of rewrites reality to say it never happened. Like it STILL happened but the universe and people will act like it never did)
@@kou4087i dont know a whole lot about survivors lore. But technically yes. He would be the first playable survivor to have "Escaped" the Entity. I know Vecna (The lich from DnD) that killer is able to leave the entities realm when he so pleases as he was able to make a portal to the realm. Because hes just that powerful i guess. So powerful the entity puts a special mark on his back just to Nerf him enough so its a fair fight with survivors. But its still not enough to prevent him from leaving. He just comes back because he wants to study and explout the Entities realm in some way
"The journal of a man who claimed to have returned from the void" "In a wasteland of forgotten dreams and endless routine, a man with a way out is God." - According to vigo's journal addon description, Vigo himself claims to have escaped and Talbot believed him about having a way out of the realm
I swear mintskull is in my walls, literally 20 mins ago I happened to look at the new dbd shop and notice the claudette skin "Vigo's apprentice" and think: "who tf is Vigo tho?"
The Vigo's cosmetics are pretty dope. Wish/waiting for new originals to get Vigo's. Might be unlikely because himself and the Observer are MIA (I think).
I also think Vittorio's tome has been overlooked by the community, the reason Vittorio has his tattoos might genuinely be related to Vigo as he was attacked in the fog by a group of people if I remember correctly that placed something on his skin, the tattoos are something that Vittorio is suppoaed to decypher and his tome was also related to the hatch itself!
Three theories that are possible regarding Vigo's fate are essentially he escaped the realm via his Refined Serum but can come and go as he pleases (which I dont know why he'd do), he is somehow transformed into a killer by the Entity due to his abilty to enter the Void dubbing him "The Voidwalker" or as MintSkull states, he ends up trapped in the Void by the Entity, never to be seen or heard from again. Man its still mind boggling seeing all this interesting lore hidden behind an absolute mess of a game like DbD, and i've been playing since early 2018.
My headcannon is that the hatch is opened by vigo for the last survivor, he knew the entity was onto him, and so only opens the hatch when the match is over, trying to help current survivors as much as he can.
yeah, vigo and benedict were the pioneers of the lore since the start from the game, yet im so sad that devs only up to this date remember and only remembers Vigo via halloween skins and some addons for blight and yet they didn't even cared that after Clowns chapter release Benedict just... dissappeared. plus devs for some reason stopped doing Lore streams, probably because they shifted it onto archives. This would be an amazing thing if you will dig up some new lore entries for benedict, because this man deserves more love - he literally told us not only how basic stuff works in entity's realm like bloodweb and teachable perks, but also told us how really survivors/killers behaved in the fog.
I like how the perks of survivors that ARE NOT in the fog with us anymore like for example Hope make so much sense, technically speaking when Stranger things left the fog all the perks from that DLC became free as if they ceased to exist and everyone could learn those skills now because no one could teach them anymore... obviously this is not what happened in reality, but I like how it can be explained lorewise
The ultimate fate of Vigo is an interesting question, with many answers. I like to think that with his extensive knowledge of the realms, research of the Entity, and power of manifestation, he was able to free himself from the trials and escape into the real world. Obviously, he came and went before our playable survivors, but even so, we know that time works differently in the realms, so his escape likely didn't return him to his time, or the equivalent time period for all his years spent in the fog. I like to think that he was spat out into the past, armed with the knowledge of the Entity, its ways, and how to beat it. With the sightings of the Entity and its fog throughout history, as evidenced by the Greek Trials charm and the character stories, I think he convinced a handful of people of the Entity's existence and the necessity of destroying it. He told them how it had trapped people like himself in decades of torturous trials, and how he alone emerged victorious. With his notes, serum, and evidence, he educated these people and taught them how to fight back. But, as difficult as escaping the fog was, breaching it was even more difficult. So he dedicated himself and his followers to finding a way into the realms, saving those trapped inside, and destroying the Entity. They built strange weapons and occult tools, and fought back whenever they could find the Entity breaching their dimension. I believe Vigo escaped the fog, and founded the Imperriati and the Pariahs.
I suspect that the longer you do not die in the realm the more powerful you become. The more powerful you become the more self aware you become of your impact upon the realm. Survive long enough and you can start to influence the realm first in small ways and later your impact upon the realm can be so great that even the entity is compelled to follow the rules you have created. Vigo in time managed to survive with a long term streak against the killers and thus started to reshape the realm to aid him. These impacts were at first not perceived by the entity but later it realized the truth so it manipulated survivors to steal from vigo and subsequently lose in the trials thus erasing the items. Eventually vigo ran out of items and had to do the trials resulting in a death that erased his memories of how to manipulate the realm. The entity then focused on putting him thru the trials while encouraging survivors to "find" the things he made so they could be destroyed. That is why the entity accepts items belonging to vigo as its eager to erase him. Sadly he probably exists in the void now having been eaten up and spat out by the entity to the point that nothing is left.
I remember that in one of the Halloween events the survivors were allowed to have a variant of the serum that is safe for whoever uses it, unlike the putrid serum (the accessory that is usable for the first aid kits) it would be interesting to know that the serum What is safe for the survivors is actually the serum that I believe Vigo, unlike the one Blight made in his laboratory It's a theory, something I thought of out of nowhere, but they had a chance to do that for the lore.
I know it's not true, but I have a head canon that the blight and Vigo is the same person but in a multiversal sense. I like to think that Vigo is rather a nickname since that would make him the only survivor without a last name, however the blight does have a last name. My theory is basically two versions of the same guy got taken into the entities realm and while one had a good ending possibly, the other became the blight and turned to the killer side. I also believe that the blight and Vigo could be the same person in a non multiversal sense, where the entity manipulated Vigo's own story and have it lead into the blights, I feel the entity could have done this to make it so survivors that read it think he escaped and gives them hope
That would make interesting first movie for DBD. The survivors up till now have had nothing, but after one survivor escapes out the hatch, the find Viggo's lab, they figure out how to create items to aid them and it ends with all four survivors escaping a match. Although they realize it's a small victory in the end, it still feels like a win
Didn't the devs say once that there was a third way to escape that nobody had discovered? If Vigo isn't around as a survivor, nor a killer, wouldn't it make sense that after he figured out how to escape the trial with the hatch, he would eventually learn how to escape the entity altogether, making a third escape of sorts?
Currently we have Observer trying to escape through the Void in House of Arkham archives. So, perhaps, we will see a Vigo (or at least a reference to him) in these.
uhhh fantastic video! Im still thinking, that theses old lore charas, Vigo, Benedickt and Talbot, but also Vittorio and the Observer now each other. I hope we will see or hear about these 5 Charas in the Movi and or in the Casting of Frank Stone Game
You should do a video on the Observer and Benedict. My head canon is that Vigo is the Observer, but id like to know what the community thinks about that. While we're talking about this, i wonder what happened to the original survivors from the general perk texts. And while we're asking that, do the survivors and killers we get already exist in the realm? Or are we just being introduced to them? So many questions.
I will point out one thing, the devs talk about him in mostly present tense, other then him having been a survivor. Vigo is still around, just not a survivor now.
16:10 The vigo's serum it's the refined serum add-on that they added in 2020 hallowen event, and the Blight's serum it's the unrefined serum that he uses and the add-on for killers named Blight's serum. So, Vigo>Blight
Mint skull back at it again with the most unique content in the dbd. Community, so much of dbds content is the same “looping for 5 gens” “toxic survs get stomped” it gets boring but ur content is always unique and interesting
I would love to see a video dedicated to the Benedict Baker. Hopefully more people will see this video. I just love the dbd lore. Thanks for showing it to us MintSkull!! Love ya! 😁
As a lore enthusiast (especially blights lore) I’m a fan of this! Although it remains a mystery of Vigos fate his journal add on for blight hints to vigo possibly escaping as Talbot idolised vigo as a god because he had a way out of the realm (or it could just be hatch). We know that for Vigos fate it could be one of 2 things trapped in the void or he escaped
I don’t think any of these devs still work on DBD, or they’ve been promoted and moved past the game. Probably different people who don’t care as much now working on DBD, which is why it’s such a different nightmare of code
My theory is: after a while he made an escape from the realm(being the hatch after refining it) and after he escaped the entity changed it to be part of the realm as “an alternate escape”
Having VIgo as a survivor would be cool, maybe give him a perk that would let him open the hatch without a key and be able to hear the hum even when it is closed.
My (questionable) theory is that Vigo becomes the rainbow map. Its description talks about how the blood on the map is fresh, almost still alive if not actually alive. Vigo’s quote for the item is hopeless, him almost giving up. He talks about his knowledge and how he knows so much, but he can’t do anything with it. So I assume somehow he died or was killed and made into the map, and his residual power and knowledge made the map an extremely useful tool, able to see anything the entity and killers controlled. That explains why we don’t know where he is. He’s the skin of the map somehow and channeling his power lets you see what he sees. Just a little theory
Theory: Vigo learned how to use the void and serum to defeat the entity. However, the entity is a canon anchor and like sin from FFX there must always be one so by defeating the entity he took the entities place and being a stronger more knowledgeable version was able to reach into the very depths of fiction to obtain more terrifying monsters and victims (i.e freddy, chucky, exc.)
Vigo made a deal with the entity in which he would sacrifice himself but in return a hatch would be made available for survivors to give them hope and a chance of escape.
Can u make a video on how most of Hawkins lights are broken ever since they re-added the map? Previously, all hallway lights were off with the exception of those that are close to generators, the same issue is also for the computer lights around the map, and the exit gate red lights as well. I feel like no one noticed this could just be me.
Another possible fate for Vigo I think is that they may end up partnered with the Entity, the Entity seems to have kept a lot of his work afterall. No torture in exchange for ideas is a pretty sweet deal in the Entity's realm.
major plot twist imagine the entity is vigo from an alt timeline/uni and to stay alive it needs the killers to kill and also for the other version to be turned into the entity eventually
I don't think we'll ever see Vigo or Alex or any of the unseen survivors in game, but it would be cool if they eventually showed up. Maybe the Observer is hiding with them in some weird pocket dimension inside the fog.
@@ADukesJusticeit wasn’t him! If you read the article and clues in frank stone’s diary he says he has not seen Augustine in a year and she shows up happy and ready to continue the work, She then provides her own child to be sacrificed to the entity but instead it becomes frank not the baby
Vigo is THE survivor which is why I’m bummed cause he won’t be a dlc since perks are something that comes with a new survivor/killer automatically and encompass that characters background or play style and what could possibly represent someone as legendary as Vego
The entity got angry with Vigo so he trapped him in a painting and when he tried to escape to warn humanity about the entity he was trapped by a bunch of men shooting energy weapons and slime guns.
How cool would it be that a dev sometimes spawned as a extra carácter " Vigo" in a Game to help survivors. Add an achievement to killer, Vigo assasin if You kill em all with the extra difficulty
Seria incrivel ter um evento onde o Vigo aparece novamente, mas como um Killer muito forte em um modo especial de jogo, como um retorno dele com a sanidade prejudicada por andar no void ou capturado pela entidade e nerfado como os itens para ser um killer normal
I think in the end Vigo probably turned into a monster. I think every time he took his serum and used it to delve into the void he lost a little of his humanity. I think this is the reason he tore out the recipe, he realized at the end that it was too dangerous to use, and took one last trip into the Void in a desperate attempt to return to his reality. If fate were particularly cruel perhaps he did, but mutated into a monster like The Dredge that the Entity ends up recapturing and using as one of its killers.
I'm convinced vigo and talbot are actually the same person and it was an identity he used when he interacted with other survivors. Thus how he taught claudette and various other survivors to utilize the blighted flowers before he turned into the blight
Honestly, I'd like to think that the oorignal survivors (the one who we theorize the general perks used to belong to) all escaped thanks to Vigo, which made the entity learn a bit, and therefore only allow some of their perks to be used, as well as nerfing items, buffing killers, etc.
if Vigo ends up being lost to the entity and becoming a killer, it would be really cool to see the kind of abilities he would have! like imagine if he could turn into fog and phase through walls. and maybe he could have glowing orange eyes due to pustula serum, but not being deformed since his was more refined.

DBD Lore will never cease to amaze me. More videos like this, please.
uhhh fantastic video!
I feel like I can watch Mint talking about dbd for hours, great video as always king ❤
I love the Forest Temple music you put on the last part of the video
Edit: and the Water Temple music
Hey gotta thank him, he’s responsible for 99% of my escapes
I like the idea of Vigo being like a legend that manged to escape, if not back to reality then at least into the void.
Imagine vigo is a new survivor and his perk tells him where the hatch is but exposes him and also telling the killer where he is for 10 sec
Great watch! Thanks for the lore summary!
I really hope we get more Lore and Story related content in the Game. Imagine how cool a Film about Vigo and the Entity would be 😍
I will point out one thing, the devs talk about him in mostly present tense, other then him having been a survivor.
Great video! I’m relatively new to dbd and I’m loving learning the lore.
FYI, realm is pronounce relm. The a is silent 😊
This was awesome, I really enjoyed it.
my name is vigo. i made the hatch.
Vigo is a Carpathian who was a 16th/17th century tyrant. Known as a Warlock skilled in Black Magic.
I would love to see a video dedicated to the Benedict Baker. Hopefully more people will see this video. I just love the dbd lore. Thanks for showing it to us MintSkull!! Love ya! 😁
I love your videos, very well explained and entertaining! Keep going bro
Really cool video about the game's lore. Thanks for sharing this!
Ive played this game for years, never got into the lore until now. Thanks for the vids 🎉
I think I've played this game for years, i think I've seen this
I've played this game for years how have I never seen this?
Mmmmm deja vu
Sick use of Twilight Realm music in the vid 😎
the word "realm" has one syllable, and it rhymes with "whelm". like "bell" but with an M on the end
13:38 when nic was released he said ,,thers nothing more powerful then imgination,,
First time viewer, long time Dbd person. Neat loredump, i've been playing since launch so it's interesting to actually know who he is.
I love this series! Please keep going. :)
Imagine a chapter with vigo as survivor and like an avatar of entity as a killer
Games draw me in with their gameplay or cool factor, but keep me when they have interesting lore to back it all up!
10/10 great voice acting for the reading man, genuinely very good!
I don’t think any of these devs still work on DBD, or they’ve been promoted and moved past the game.
Probably different people who don’t care as much now working on DBD, which is why it’s such a different nightmare of code
Wow I always thought Vigo turned into the blight Very entertaining video for who cares about the lore
My theory is: after a while he made an escape from the realm(being the hatch after refining it) and after he escaped the entity changed it to be part of the realm as “an alternate escape”
As DBD cosmology is a infinite multiverse then if Vigo found a way out of the realm, then he is not the only one.
Great job honestly!
Having VIgo as a survivor would be cool, maybe give him a perk that would let him open the hatch without a key and be able to hear the hum even when it is closed.
you're face, to face with the man who built the hatch
Guitar noises*
'vigo just like nicolas cage was able to manifest various items' is not a sentence i ever thought i would hear XDDDDD
I always found his story difficult to understand. Thanks for simplifying it.
I’d love to see Vigo appear in game as a survivor who can influence the killer stuff like hooks or walls in contrast to the blight
real ones remember getting all 4 survivors and a key to escape after 3 gens
This is a very interesting story, hopefully bhvr will do more! ❤
Vigo made a deal with the entity in which he would sacrifice himself but in return a hatch would be made available for survivors to give them hope and a chance of escape.
It would be cool if we got a map with vigo’s laboratory to learn more about this lore
Itd be cool if they made vigo a killer with the ability to disguise as survivors like people thought legion would
i loved the video i hop youll do more lore videos like this :D
Can u make a video on how most of Hawkins lights are broken ever since they re-added the map? Previously, all hallway lights were off with the exception of those that are close to generators, the same issue is also for the computer lights around the map, and the exit gate red lights as well. I feel like no one noticed this could just be me.
Another possible fate for Vigo I think is that they may end up partnered with the Entity, the Entity seems to have kept a lot of his work afterall. No torture in exchange for ideas is a pretty sweet deal in the Entity's realm.
This is just beautiful man😢
major plot twist imagine the entity is vigo from an alt timeline/uni and to stay alive it needs the killers to kill and also for the other version to be turned into the entity eventually
I don't think we'll ever see Vigo or Alex or any of the unseen survivors in game, but it would be cool if they eventually showed up. Maybe the Observer is hiding with them in some weird pocket dimension inside the fog.
It’s said that vigo is Augustine kid from the frank stone story. The baby that she is sacrificing! It’s her kid! Aka vigo
The baby was Jaime
@@ADukesJusticeit wasn’t him! If you read the article and clues in frank stone’s diary he says he has not seen Augustine in a year and she shows up happy and ready to continue the work,
She then provides her own child to be sacrificed to the entity but instead it becomes frank not the baby
Man just 1 hour ago i found a long forgotten picture of my great grandfathers friend group that was taken in 1942 and now this amazinggggg
Was your great grandfather Vigo?
@HouseOM82 tbh i dont remember writing this one lol but the date was at a party so may have been drunk lol
Fair@@steffhess3627
Vigo is THE survivor which is why I’m bummed cause he won’t be a dlc since perks are something that comes with a new survivor/killer automatically and encompass that characters background or play style and what could possibly represent someone as legendary as Vego
The entity got angry with Vigo so he trapped him in a painting and when he tried to escape to warn humanity about the entity he was trapped by a bunch of men shooting energy weapons and slime guns.
Of course the “Crackhead” is the strongest in the game story wise but it’s really funny out loud
He should be the dbd movie protag
Tbh I’m hoping for Benedict or Elodie, since Elodie feels like the most “main character” type of survivor
the rift narrator has to be Vigo because he's sitting inside of a luxury Library and he tells us all about the entity and all of the survivors
