    LOL!!! Eric I remember (I was either a grade schooler or early middle schooler) since my dad worked for the Burlington Northern he didn't have a lot of time to help me....my mother and I were building a HO 4X8 and we ballasted everything, then glued it down.....lesson learned early for me.....my switches wouldn't throw!

    Enjoyed your video.. I have atlas switches and a couple are "sticky", going to try your cleaning ideas... thanks.

    Thanks. Actually, I don't have very steady hands at all. I've never had any problem with shorts on Atlas switches. That's terrible if you have to do that to your switches to get them to work right! I've never heard of anything like that. Feel free to elaborate.

    Oh, I'm not sure. I know that MTH sells their stuff over in Europe but I'm not sure about Brazil. I would think you could get it down there.

    @SirSebaztian I've never seen anyone ballast fastrack myself, but I'm sure it's been done. I have seen people darken it down with paints and so forth to make it look a little more realistic. I think there was an article in OGR magazine about it a while back, so check there. I use an AIU to control my switches.

    Eric,
    Is it possible to ballast fastback in anyway shape or form to make it look more realistic, if so what type of ballast would you recommend? Also, how do you control your switches....are atlas o switches capable of being operated wirelessly like Lionel's new command control switches? or do you have them connected to an AIU or Lionel's SC-2? When I have a permanent layout I plan on converting to Atlas O, it rides quiet, more authentic, and clearly superior!!

    @SilverLakeRailroad I've never measured it, but you can get pretty far. You can get cheaper ballast at other places but it doesn't look as good as Brennan's.

    The alcohol won't hurt the switch mechanism, in my experience. It just evaporates.

    Hi ... I noticed you have not painted your rails either brown or rust. Do yo do that after you ballast or not at all? Thx Jim

    @SilverLakeRailroad i don't know, maybe 8 feet per bag.

    excuse me then
    i was just asking if the o-scale(like the others scales also) is more available at america then the rest of the world, i mean, if atlas O export to the other countries because i am brazilian and i was interested on this collection. And a second thing is how much a patch of rail, a car, or the engines are like.

    why glue the ballast down , where's it gonna go ?

      MikeyBigWheel Everywhere, if it's not glued down. Give it a try without glue and you'll see what i mean.
