I still believe “Ten” is one the the best debut rock albums of all time. Thanks for recording all the pearl jam riff clips, as I have been playing these songs since the 90’s and you have taught me a few nuances I seem to have missed along the way. Cheers from Australia! Subbed.
Hey buddy! That's awesome, thanks for the sub and hello from the UK, was just speaking to my cousin in Perth and sounds like things are pretty much back to normal for you guys now, light at the end of the tunnel for us!
Absolutely. It is THE album that made me pick up a guitar and try to play. Back then i wanted to be mike but as i learned more i realized stone is the player to be. So good.
lee batt completely agree, funnily enough when Pearl Jamm (tribute band I play in) started up I was the first guitarist on board and got the choice of Mike and Stone and whilst I miss out on some awesome solos, Stone gets pretty much all the riffs! 😊🤘
This is one of the best albums of all time. It’s up there with Led Zeppelin’s IV, Sgt. Pepper, Paranoid, Dark side of the moon and Superunknown. Not one single ‘bad’ or filler tracks. Thanks for this, now I know that I’ll never be able to play these songs;)
I like Pearl Jam a bit more than Soundgarden and Alice In Chains, but as far as guitar riffs go, I rank them behind Cornell's/Thayil's and Cantrell's. To me Soundgarden's riffs are more consistently adventurous and unpredictable, often delicious in some exotic way (Superunknown, just can't get enough of the guitars, Chris' voice almost annoy me because of it😂), while Cantrell is an ultimate hard-hitter, he hit you straight away from the first sequence of notes like no other. Or maybe it's just that Jeff Ament's playing is more colorful than the three other bassists. Still....you've done a great job and a lovely tribute to one of few albums that always have very special place in my life. God I love Ten so much, I've never got tired of it for almost three decades now.
The best part of this phenomenal channel is the understanding it gives to how Mike's and Stone's (and Jeff's and Eddie's, later) parts mix with each other. Great writing and arrangement
Hey David! Thanks for the feedback and yea next year it’s 30 years for this and 20 years for No Code too (I think!) - stay tuned tho loads more of these to come 😀🤘
The soundscape those two guitars create in ONCE is just so full and so satisfying! I've been a fan of PJ for years and only now, I'm realising just how creative Stone and Mike actually were/are!
Absolutely fantastic playing! I've been watching your videos for a while now and just wanted to say how excellent they are and how much of a talented teacher you are. All the best from a fellow Pearl Jam lover! Keep up the great work!🤘
One of the few albums I have ever heard that I can listen to from start to finish with no desire to skip a track! Awesome work...now I need to pull out my guitar and give a few of these a try.
As a LIFE LONG and DIE HARD OBSESSED Pearl Jam fan , I must say this is SPECTACULAR!!!! I am 100% positive Mike and Stone would definitely approve. Keep up the great work !!!!!
This makes me wanna hear some Pearl Jam. And I only know like Black and Alive. You're the best man, much love from Greece. Have a nice summer and thanks for the entertainment and inspiration!
Ah that’s awesome thanks for the lovely comment, and I’ve got you covered mate....here’s a playlist of all my Ten lessons (have a look on my channel too I’ve got over 100 PJ vids 😀🤘) ruclips.net/p/PLLJomVjCOvkhhU5NhmVei9T1u6w1hj810
Haha no worries I only found that out as it was our intro music when playing shows with my PJ tribute band and the guys kept saying who’s got the Slave/Master intro music....I was like the what?! 😂
Used to play along to this on my kit back in the day. Had me tapping my hands and feet playing along with you haha. Dave is an amazing drummer. Great solid guitar duo as well. Very nicely played🤘
You’re very close, but not quite 100%, in working out Stone’s parts for most of these. Before I did the video on my channel on how to play Stone’s parts for Alive accurately, you were definitely one of the closest of all the RUclipsrs! Cheers, great stuff!
Another masterpiece ! Thanks so much for this, its epic ! Would like to know more about the intro before once and the end of release, that mellow chill song
You're welcome Daniel :-) The intro is referred to as Master/Slave and I think it was a 12 bar blues type jam that they just busted out and it ended up making it onto the album. There's a tonne of tunes they did that didn't make it to the album. I'll do some more of these and maybe include all the outtake riffs in another vid!
@@LetsPlayAll that would be amazing ! They have great song that didnt made the album ! Breath, State of love and trust, 2000 miles blues, they have amazing guitar riffs and solos
Great job! They (Stone and Mike) really had their "weaving" down here. Back during Green River, you could hear a definite Aerosmith "Rocks" era vibe emerging on the guitar riffing/playing. That was even more pronounced on Mother Love Bone's album, and was perfected for Ten. Stone got weary of trodding down the same path, and Eddie Vedder started to have more input musically, so they didn't stick with this approach as a main feature of the band as they went ahead (though Vs. still has a lot of it).
Yea for sure, you still see glimpses of it in later albums for sure but Stone's writing contributions make for a lot of the more riff based songs back in the day!
👍 awesome playing!! , , , this also shows why the only pearl jam I know is the yellow Ledbetter intro . . . . you gotta have a twin to play anything lol
How did you guess? I have over 100 pearl jam videos on my channel and play in a tribute band called Pearl Jamm in the UK so yea they’re my fave band 😀🤘 hmm my fave song changes tbh but I’d say to play love I love Brain of J (Stone gets a solo in that too) and Porch and probably at home I like whatever the latest one I work out tbh!
Hey Dale glad you found the channel and thanks very much for the lovely feedback. Fear not, I’m working on some gear vids and how to get various tones at the moment so stay tuned 😊🤘
Oh how I wish I had this 26 years ago with my fiesta red japanese Squier and my cheap Peavey amp🤘🏻 I played Ten, VS, Nevermind, Badmotorfinger, siamese dream, Dirt and Core 247 for years.
edenite was like that when I bought it (second hand at an auction) - it used to belong to AC/DCs guitar tech and it’s an Edwards Japanese LP copy, but oddly he’d put a Gibson decal over it and then covered that over too! So no idea why 😀
Thanks man! The EQ is pretty flat on my amp but it does have a mid boost setting engaged, i've got the treble on my Tumnus set to about 2 o'clock, OCD is pretty flat too. Hope that helps :-)

haha give it time and i'm sure you will! those are some awesome albums for sure.....i need to do a lot more of these vids! ;-)
Pearl Jam's best album, and in my opinion, a perfect record. Stone Gossard is a masterful composer.
Amen!
This makes me respect Stone Gossard way more. Best riff writer from the 90's
He was prolific back then for sure!
nah that title goes to jerry cantrell
I like Pearl Jam a bit more than Soundgarden and Alice In Chains, but as far as guitar riffs go, I rank them behind Cornell's/Thayil's and Cantrell's.

Ah thanks Jon, appreciate the kind words mate!
It's cool that 30 years after the album comes out a man on RUclips plays all the riffs from Ten note for note!

Their guitars intertwined just sound like a huge orchestra. Amazing stuff
Kieran Scott thanks man, they’re playing octaves in some parts and those sound huge!
The album that started it for me
Amen! 😀🤘
The soundscape those two guitars create in ONCE is just so full and so satisfying! I've been a fan of PJ for years and only now, I'm realising just how creative Stone and Mike actually were/are!
Yea i think Once and Even flow verses especially are just immense use of two guitars :-)
Absolutely fantastic playing! I've been watching your videos for a while now and just wanted to say how excellent they are and how much of a talented teacher you are. All the best from a fellow Pearl Jam lover! Keep up the great work!🤘

In that order also.
But you nailed it, brother (:
RevenantRoad Records haha dammit even when I’m not speaking in vids I still balls stuff up haha 😀🤘
An amazing snapshot into the best album ever!! Thank you.
Cheers Spencer, glad you enjoyed it!
Instantly one of my favorite videos on RUclips! Great job man. I only pray that Vs., Vitalogy, ect... are coming soon.
Thanks man 😀🤘Then pray no more as I’m doing the other albums plus other similarly awesome band’s albums too!
@@LetsPlayAll looking forward to it. Thanks!
Awesome! My favorite album of all time. You make it look so easy.

Agreed Ronnie! So many amazing tracks on this one
Great riffs!
Yes indeed Rodolfo, some of their best!
7:06 to 7:13 is perfect the way that g is distorted is insane.

Thanks Carloncho! Greetings from the UK!

Daniel Serra Yellow Ledbetter... yeah it’s incredible how they clicked so quickly and so seamlessly!

haha you just need to clone yourself Brandon, job done!
I just discover this chanel. What a great work. You really deserve to be in this band (excuse my english)
tony perez hey Tony, thanks very much for your kind words and your English is great! 🤘😀
Picking my least favorite song off Ten is like asking me to pick my least favorite child.
jcl49er 72 😂
It's Bobby isn't it. Nobody likes Bobby.

Thank you, awesome video/playing/tone/choice in music. Can you make a video on how you get that TEN album tone?
Already did one a while ago :-) Stone - ruclips.net/video/7oHnAsN2uhY/видео.html and Mike - ruclips.net/video/sP0_1U7aYLI/видео.html
Wow, fantastical!
Thanks David!
Very cool!
You sound amazing.
Thanks dude
What Overdrive do you use for Even Flow and Intro of Alive? Please.
Tumnus and SL Drive but there's loads of pedals that will do it, any marshall in a box style pedal is a good start :-)
@@LetsPlayAll thanks for the answer. D you think an Archer can substitute a Tumnus in these cases? (To operate together a ocd)
Je craque ! J’adore ce disque je le mets sur ma platine 🤘
Moi aussi! Love this album :-)
What is the purpose of lifting your fingers high on the 7 in Alive? I noticed Stone does that as well.
Do you mean the bend? Could be that so it looks like I’m lifting my fingers but I’m pulling the note to a higher pitch
The guitar melodies and chord structures were so creative. They don't use many standard chords, lots of 7ths 9ths and minor chords
Agreed!
Wow
You can do it one link ir The Song *Black*?
Great stuff !!!👍
Check my other vids mate I’ve got 2 covers for Black and lessons for Mike and Stone 🤘😀
Will you play all PJ albums. ? (Yes please)
Yes :-)
hey why is the logo on the headstock taped over (on the les paul)
edenite was like that when I bought it (second hand at an auction) - it used to belong to AC/DCs guitar tech and it’s an Edwards Japanese LP copy, but oddly he’d put a Gibson decal over it and then covered that over too! So no idea why 😀
That was the answer I was looking for. Thanks.
This Is great! And your tone Is awesome, how is your eq set?
Thanks man! The EQ is pretty flat on my amp but it does have a mid boost setting engaged, i've got the treble on my Tumnus set to about 2 o'clock, OCD is pretty flat too. Hope that helps :-)
Stone Gossard is a genius.
Yes!
Memories come flooding, now my day begins. ✊
:-)
What an underrated guitarist
I wonder if a JCM 800 would get these tones.
I LOVE the Two Notes software. I use it every day.
Yes indeed, with a Tube Screamer as pretty sure that's what they used, but any marshall in a box type pedal will do the job tbh. Yea the Two Notes is amazing!
damn louis CK you're good on the guitars
haha thanks John :-)
How to do you get that tone for Oceans?
Just my amp which is just on the edge of breakup, bridge pup and open D tuning
The best bread and butter is riffs and riffs!
Indeed and this is full of them! 😊🤘
That's cool but tell us what is that Les Paul type guitar.
Haha all details in the description mate, it’s a Japanese made LP copy that used to belong to AC/DCs guitar tech 🤘
Alright, great work :)
Cheers!
Me deparo com aquela introdução de Alive e aquele Riff de Deep. Foda amigo, ótimo trabalho com essas duas super guitarras.
Obrigado companheiro, aprecie as amáveis palavras!
Genial como siempre
Muchas gracias amigo!
my first record... got it on cassette tape. All about how heavy 'Deep' is.
not a bad first record! yea Deep is awesome, it's played on a slide but with Mike playing wah parts in std tuning, but the action on this guitar is terrible for slide :-)
I would love to see this for Third Eye Blind’s self titled album. My favorite ever. PJ is one of my all time favorites. Love this content!
Thanks Hadley, ahh nice Third Eye Blind are funky for sure!
Todo buenisimo pero 5:55 tremendooo!!

It's the Michael Landau version, which is a more classic shape than the usual Suhr ones (akin to a Fender one basically!) Funnily enough i was never a fan of the std ones so prefer this look :-)
