What are your thoughts on the new drivers released so far? Are you tempted by any?
Seems to be a black/dark year in terms of driver design. So my 220-X from Mizuno still looks pretty actual :)

I got the G430 SFT last year and the thing performs extremely well. I don't think I'll switch it up this year. But I have been toying with the idea of adding a 3 Wood in the bag this year. Can't wait to see @TheAverageGolfer 3 wood reviews.

I agree with you. This driver is amazing. I play a hole where if you want to get on the green off the tee, you need to get over a canyon. From tee to flag it’s 244 yards. I usually lay up this hole but today I went for it. Took my Qi10 max out with confidence and drilled a shot on to the fringe for an easy birdie. I was averaging 225yards with my previous driver. I couldn’t believe I made it
Thank you for the honest review. I'm a high handicapper. I tried the Callaway Paradym A1 Smoke and the TaylorMade QI10 in the Simulator. I currently have the original Stealth. Hands down I picked up 15 yards with the QI10. Great dispersion with a little fade. The QI10 feels like my Stealth. The Smoke felt a little stiffer. Both heads had a Regular Stiffness shaft. I wanted the Smoke but I was more impressed with the TaylorMade. We need more reviews from golfers like yourself. Thanks again!

I got some American Golf vouchers through work so looking to add driver, fairway and replacement hybrid. I’ve got Stealth 2 HDs irons so looking for similar levels of forgiveness in driver, woods and fairways. Am likely to go Ping G430 with hybrid having hit a few last week and will give all the new drivers and fairways a hit when I go for a fitting in a couple of weeks.
The insight here from reviews is invaluable and had a big impact on my purchase of the Stealth 2 HDs and CBX wedges last year.
Got fitted today. Dispersion and distance my swing produced best numbers with the Taylormade Qi10 Max. Best ball spin ✅. Time to get on the driving range and get accustomed to the grip (standard size). My current M4 driver has a Medium sized Golf Pride MCC plus 4 grip.
Another nicely done review. Love the on-course action and how much effort you put in to capturing the club’s sound. Shot tracer is another quality touch. You’re going to be right about this driver. Been a while since I’ve played TM but this driver is getting a test drive. Looks like a fairway finding beast. New face is an upgrade on durability too. You were getting it out there and very playable.
Love the review, your numbers are far closer to the majority of regular golfers which makes the review relatable for many
Totally agree And - you ARE the man for the job ☺. I think the Max performed better (as designed) in your hands, at our speed, than it has for the PGA YTers that have reviewed it. At their speed (circa 110+ mph), the Max seemed to produce too much spin and too much launch, so it didn't look like a good choice. But a high launch at 2200 spin is a good outcome at 95 mph, so it could well be worth a try. Shame about the glossy, reflective crown though. At least Cobra nailed it in that department.
Great review. I am now playing the regular Qi10. The TM rep said that this model has a combined MOI around 8,500. Easily more forgiving than the Stealth 2+ that it replaced. But just as long.
With regards to the other models…..The Max spun too much. And I don’t have the game to play the LS.
2:23 looked like you were aiming at the trees down the left side, but still found the fairway!
Great review, alas someone is thinking for us average golfers. I bought a Titleist TSI 1 last year with a proper shaft (light) for my swing at 67 yrs old. Works good. No change for me, my wallet isn't thick enough to follow the trends by the big brands. I now play for fun, not only for score although its always nice to have a good round now and then.
I tried it out but my fitter didn't have the adjustable weight kit and the head was just too heavy for me. Got the Paradym AI-Smoke and love it!

Good to see this review and the previous PXG one Andy, and neither overlong too. Would have been good to have seen more info on how the three models differ, who they are aimed for etc. So will you playing this or the PXG you were fit for?
Looking forward to trying this and the new Ping 10K. I turned 52 yesterday and if these would allow me play it in a lower loft then maybe there’s more ball speed and the added forgiveness. Love your channel! You’re someone I can related to. You even convinced me to try the Paradym X. Not sure if I will land there but making the game easier sounds extremely inviting. Take care!

I am keen on new clubs this year and my old M1 is on the list for replacement as well. I am really excited by all the new drivers this year for the first time in a long time. the tech looks very practical for my ageing swing and slowing swing speeds
I dared try the 10.5 Regular, now its in the bag. I started using the Stealth 2 HD 4/5 Hy and 5 FW, the Qi10 Max fits great with these with the Speeder NX shaft, but I will have it cut down an inch.
I am tempted by the PXG Black Ops or the Ping G430 Max 10k. With a slight preference for the PXG because of the veteran’s discount they offer. My current driver a Ping G400 Max, is 6 years old. So, you could assume any new driver will be in the bag for quite awhile. The long term reliability of the carbon face on TaylorMade drivers gives me pause. I’ve seen numerous carbon faces that have separated from the driver head on golf social media. I understand that TM is good about replacing defective products but that’s just a hassle I don’t want deal with.
The crown has been redesigned to house the carbon face in a different way in response to any issues with previous models, only time will tell if they resolve
Had a Taylormade 3 wood. The face cracked when then club was 15 months old. Called Taylormade, they said the warrenty is one year..go pound sand.
prefer the colourway this year.... another nice review.... onething for from those drives you hit some sounded strangely tinny, until that last one
That’s the echo of the forest, I would never judge any sound from video as acoustics change significantly from different environments 👍

Might want to check the Cobra Darkspeed LS as well, both seem to hit the mark this season.

Having just moved from a PXG 0211 to a 2 nd hand Ping 425max with a 40g shaft, no. The Ping is set for max draw bias to compensate for my fade /slice and seems to be working wonders. While the Ping 430G10 might appeal
Not as a new club just yet. Maybe if I can drop from 27 H’cap to the teens then I might treat myself to a proper fitting but not this year

With total respect, a 27 handicap needs to spend more time on the short game. A new and 'better' driver is not going to be the silver bullet. Good luck.
Tried this and the smoke drivers today
Much preferred the callaway. More solid. Better distance and always seemed to go straight somehow
One thing about the TM that put me off slightly was fact that the blue face didn’t go all along the face so gave it an appearance of being a smaller hitting area for me
Anyway smoke max on order 😄

You mention dry ball data in the video, but there isn't any indoor Trackman in the video. Where can we see the data? How would you compare this to the Callaway AI Smoke? (Not considering looks) Which is the better way of creating forgiveness, their AI face or the high MOI in this one? Would love to see a head-to-head between the Qi10 Max and the AI Smoke Max (i.e. the core model from the the two line-ups).

I saw some other reviews of this club vs ping g440 10k. I'd like to see you do a side by side comparison. As you said my handicap is closer to yours than their's.

Andy, I think it would be interesting to somehow study the depreciation on new golf equipment - like is done on new cars - lose 30% year 1 / 50% year 3 / etc. We see all these new launches every year, with prices incredibly high these days, so when the selection doesn't work out for whatever reason, what do we stand to lose?
I’d guess a high amount, depreciation of golf clubs must be at an all time high with so many released so often
Andy, it wasn’t that long ago that you were saying that TM’s mini driver would be hard to get out of the bag ahead of the new drivers being released. Is that still the case, or have any of the full sized drivers convinced you otherwise?
(And would you be tempted to try the QI10 max head with the shorter mini driver shaft?)
Got a PXG Gen 5 and like it. I do not think switching to new driver is worth the money. Better off taking lessons to learn to hit a driver better would be the ticket. More fairways better score. IMHO. Good review.

Your question: why is it not a matte finish? Because it’s no different than some people like a red car and some people like a blue car. Some like a black car. So far of the videos being reviewed of this driver 70% love the gloss finish. Only a smaller percentage want matte. I think the solution is that the manufacturer should produce both finishes so that those that want the matte or gloss finish can have it. They will likely bring out some kind of a limited addition later on in the year and maybe it will have the matte. But I quite like the gloss, looks classy and gives it an elegant look. This is a great looking driver I’m curious to see how this would stack up against the Paradym AI smoke, Cobra Darkspeed and PXG OOOOOPS!

Great review as always. Seems like u were hitting the next pxg better.
YES..... this is a high launching driver..... due to the weight being so far back in the head, it drops the rear at impact, thus increasing loft. BUT before you buy the lower lofted 9 degree club.... try dialing down the 10.5. The subtle changes in doing that make a big difference. And since this is a very different head than you have ever hit before.... your current shaft choice will probably not be an optimal one on this head. You need to get fitted by someone that knows what they are doing and I guarantee this will impress. Impress unless you happen to be the less than 1% of all golfers with a very high swing speed that is.

Nice review! I really like the blue over the red. With that being said, I upgraded my driver last year to a Titleist TSR2, which I really like. I will probably hold off another generation or two before upgrading. I still love keeping up with these reviews.

At £500 the answer is a no. I can build a whole bag for around £600 no way I would ever spend almost that on one club. The cost of golf is spiralling out of control and the big brands need to get a grip if the game is to survive. Not enough youngsters coming through at local club level, if this is not addressed golf will die as an industry be an only professional opportunity. Shame because it’s the best game ever invented and I love it.
That’s been an issue for the last 20years that’s I know of, how would you suggest it is addressed?
Agree your review assessment - for average golfers it is what this club does when hits are ‘off centre’. I like TM in innovation and that they release every year, doesn’t worry me - i do not buy every year!

From the reviews I have seen:
1. best looking driver, at least for me, is the Cobra, but it has some serious problems which may or may not be fixable in fitting, the Qi10 is good looking but not standing out.
2. best performing driver is Callaway Smoke - although I really do not like the looks. Qi10 is decent but the review seem very mixed so it may be very player dependent.
Personally I am not convinced that chasing ever higher MOI is a good thing. There must come a point where higher MOI compromises performance in some other aspect.
I think the key is managing the same three parameters….ball speed, launch, spin and if these are consistent across the club face….im in 👍
This is what mizuno is saying. The high moi clubs tend to be higher spin and lower ball speed that’s why the are keeping their new ST max below 10k inorder to maintain a lower spin
I’m still huge fan of black ops from pxg. For me it blew TM & Callaway out of the water.
I replace my driver every two years. This year I replace my Sim2 that I’ve enjoyed. Definitely will test the QI10.
I love my Sim2 and would be very hesitant to replace it.

Everyone seems to love it. Except me. I found it incredibly spinny resulting in short drives. Maybe it’s me. I hit my 3wood passed it
Taylormade: *make Sim/2*
Everybody: 'its so forgiving but lacks distance'
Taylormade: *makes stealth/2*
Everybody: 'distance is good but it lacks forgiviness off centre'
Taylormade: *releases a Sim2 body with the stealth carbon face*

I will pass on this driver, in fact I will pass on all new drivers this year. I hit the ball pretty straight with my PXG and I know one of these new drivers will gain me 2 or 3 yards max on distance. Paying £600 for 3 yards gain makes no sense. Basically, club manufacturers are feeding the public bullsh*t to justify the high price of their equipment, since most clubs are on the edge of the what can be used legally within the rules of golf, any improvements are marginal in my view.
To be fair I don’t think any brand is selling distance right now
The big problem for the QI 10 Max and any other mega forgiving driver is the Ping G430 Max 10k. It’s an absolute 🦄
One thing about this driver, it is not 45.75 inches in length, as Taylormade done with drivers in the past. Rather, it is 45.5 inches.
I had a 44.75 shaft in this test not a standard length
You are much better than an average player, you have a carry distance of 230 ? Most people I know, even when we were 45 years old , would carry only 200 yards
I hated it. And I'm a TM guy. AI1 smoke is the best new driver i hit so far. But I'll keep my SIM2 for now. I also didn't like either of the stealth's. Just not a fan of the carbon face.
What is it you don’t like about carbonwood?

Yea, I had that issue with spin, when I got a chance to play with it. Lowest I got, with a 6 X Tr Black set to 7 degrees loft, it was 2550 rpm of backspin. I didn't have complaints about the flight, seen a couple shots fly with little curve.
I tried it out . I found that lofting it down to 8 really made the head come alive 😳 I like it a lot I’m going to try it against the new ping 10k and then let the best numbers will go in my bag for 2024
Yes I need to try with a lower loft as this was still launching very high at 9*

Sure if you swing under a 100mph and need a ton of spin… go ahead, it’ll fit you then. Otherwise for people who swing over 100mph, it gets spinny in a hurry

So many hobby players will continue been s&&t because it covers their mistakes. Nahhhhhh. I’d rather get punished for crap swings. So sort game out. Not thinking I’m the business when clearly not.
It’s all about having fun and never forget that, someone’s idea of golf isn’t everyone’s and each to their own 👍
