The “cereal pack in Atlantis game for a sleeper agent” bit made me laugh out loud. Great work as always. I love how you contextualize these games and can appreciate them for the time they were released (a scratched disc inexplicably found at a daycare center) as well as their value in today’s gaming landscape.

The transition from Barbossa to the slowass sailing had me in stitches. 😄
That Trial by Fire game, damn... I actually remember it being advertized at a book store next to the theater I watched the movie at. Never even realized that guy on the cover was Milo, lol. Looked dope af, but I wasn't stupid enough to believe my folks would buy it for me (not that I can blame them, I had a habit of quickly giving up on games I was originally desperate to get once I found them too hard/scary so they didn't want to waste more money on me).

Man, PS1 Disney games were something special. They weren't the best platformers out there, but they also weren't horrible lazy tie-ins like movie games usually are. I especially loved The Emperor's New Groove game when I was a kid.

Man, funnily enough there was a cereal sweepstakes for Treasure Planet, I don't remember which one, probably Cinnamon Toast Crunch or something and you had a choice between the PS1 or PS2 version if you won. A letter came in the mail stating I won and my mother took it upon herself to write back and asked me which one I wanted, the PS2 version of course, for my shiny new PS2, I don't know how but she put PS1 instead of PS2 and I was absolutely pumped to receive it, came in the mail like 2 weeks later aaaand it was the PS1 version, I was like 7-8 at the time and I remember being devestated, lmao. But I didn't wanna upset my mom so I just played the shit out of it anyways, ON MY PS2. 🤣
Seeing this video brought back some fond memories. Thank you, sir.

one thing that i found interesting with Atlantis the video game is the existence of the lava whale creature that we see in the direct to DVD sequel of the movie. It makes me think that the animal design was already completed within the first film and only waited to be used later down the line or that im forgets that the lava whale was already in the first film.

Final Fantasy Origins, a PS1 remastered collection of FF1 and FF2 (not to be confused with Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin, which is a Soulslike/stylish action reimagining of FF1, and FF2 in the DLC), was released on PS1 in the US and Europe in 2003.
The port was released in Japan in 2001. The same year as the GameCube and Xbox, one year after the PS2’s launch, and the same year Final Fantasy X and Kingdom Hearts released.

I remember playing an Atlantis flash game that was probably a modified rip of the Atlantis cereal game on an old Toshiba laptop using the weird dried gum feeling thing that it had because track pads weren't a thing yet. I don't remember what site I was on when I found it but I've not been able to find it again, or seem to know anyone else who has heard of it, just that it was shirt, confusing, and due to it being in a flash game (or cd rip?) it was like cropping out 70% of a small laptop screen into this small rectangular box the size of a blackberry flip phone. The most telling part for me now is knowing about that apparent cut scene with the vikings was present in the flash game that I finally have closure on this 21~ years later after initially finding it.

I had Trial by Fire as a kid, and played the mini games for treasure planet that came with pizza hutt meals or something, but I had no idea about that last game that's a sequel to treasure planet. I have a theory about Atlantis LE that comes from the prequel expedition and just subtle clues in the movie, and it's that Rourke killed Thadeus Thatch. In trial by fire, Thadeus and Rourke along with their crew retrieve the journal from the keepers. The picture Whitmore shows Milo shows them all with the journal in Iceland, and while the game events arent fully canon I like to think that in order to secure the journal they definitely had to use force. Thadeus would have protested at first, but given their survival depends on defending themselves I could see him being unable to stop them. Still, with the journal secured it would take him time to translate it. Eventually once he did he would have told either Whitmore or Rourke about it, as they travel and work together. When Whitmore reminisces about TT he mentions the 'baffoons at the museum dragging him down, made a laughing stock of him.", My guess is he also tried to show the journal to the museum professors as proof but was still dismissed. Whitmore says he "died a broken man", and I feel like he means that directly, that Thaddeus killed himself. But my theory is, that Rourke after the museum confrontation took the journal pages from Thadeus, either by force or was caught while trying to steal it, and then strangled Thadeus and made it look like he hung himself. This would also explain why Sweet said "don't beat yourself up, he's been after that crystal since Iceland.". Rourke wouldn't have been able to know about the information on the missing page without Thadeus, and I feel like it adds a lot more to Rourke's backstory as a villain than just him only revealing his true colors later. It also gives more satisfaction to Milo killing him, avenging his grandfather while also saving Atlantis.

I don't want to be THAT guy, but you've missed the three treasure planet games that were released by McDonald's: Treasure Racer, Broadside Blast and Etherium Rescue (as well as Ship Shape, which only unlocks if you get all three). Literally unwatchable.
On a serious note, it's just so weird and great we got as many games as we did, even though Disney set the movie up for failure. I would have loved a sequel set in the same universe but with another main cast, something like an adaptation of Jules Verne books or other works. We got Treasure Island, what about 20.000 Leagues in Deep Space or Around the Galaxy in 80 Days? There is so much potential in the setting of Treasure Planet... Hopefully we don't get a live action remake, that would be most likely extremely disappointing.

    • @RodrickMarsMoon
      @RodrickMarsMoon Год назад

There was going to be a sequel for this one, with Willem Dafoe as the villain Steelbeard, but it was canceled mid production. Which is too bad, because it had potential to be memorable 😕.
And I'm planning to propose a Treasure Planet remake for me to direct for Disney as soon as I get experience on filmmaking, you know 😅...
I even have some ideas of my own for it, from having the Jonathan Young version of I'm Still Here playing in the movie instead of the one from Johnny Rzeznik, to have Florence Pugh as Captain Amelia and Colin Hanks as Dr. Doppler, and stuff 😄.
I mean, I love this animation with all my heart, I think it deserves the greatest remake that it can possibly be, and I'd try to be as faithful as possible to the animation while putting my own style to it in some places 🤗.

God, if Battle at Procyon was good. It is even available on Steam! You need to modify some game files to make it run at modern resolution tough. I personally don't think that the game is padding itself with it's slow speed, more like trying to create a map where the thing that happen make sense. They could have indeed made the "Full Ahead" speed much faster. Still, the story is decent even if it had a couple of plotholes but it is a worthy successor to the movie. But alas, spoiler, you do not actually go to Procyon

Nice video dude, and why do the slugs look similar to RR Slugger?

Muppet Monster Adventure, Stuart little 2 and Treasure Planet PS1 all seem to have the same engine and textbox style
