I just installed one of these on my Gretsch Double Jet/Variax with Bigsby. I had installed locking tuners and a Graphtech bridge, but the tuning was still so unreliable that I never used the Bigsby. With one minor caveat, this little contraption works! And the caveat is, you really need to let the new strings that you'll install stretch out thoroughly before clamping down the Nutbuster. The fine tuners don't have the range of adjustability that you'll need to compensate for new strings that are still stretching out. I wish it were a little cheaper, since I'd like to install one of these on all of my non-locking guitars! But outside of price, there is no downside to this.
Very Innovative the one thing about locking nuts is the F note when playing certain riffs on low E string the locking nut hits my index finger I have a song I wrote & after that song my index finger is hurting. Btw If I see another "Blues Solo Heat map" & that Hippy burning that acoustic Adverts I'm gonna scream lol
That should reduce the string tension as well, especially on the higher strings, by reducing the overall string length. Theoretically bending on the high E string should be easier.
Actually by locking all of the strings together, they pull each other equal and if certain strings are not traveling back the same, they kind of give each other a little nudge....Smart idea and I never looked at it that way!!
I dk I never have problems with my trem staying in tune on my Strat, whether floating or dive only. I learned how to set the trem properly (loosening the screws etc) and it stays perfect now
Does it work on floating bridges and your tuning would have been better if you used a roller nut and roller string trees along with those locking tuners but I like that idea as well, thanks for sharing !
Years ago I had a Hamer Chapperel Custom with a Floyd Rose and never had tuning problems. My Fender Stratocaster is nothing but tuning problems. Everyone says "hardtail it". Why have a tremolo if you can't use it? Fender's tremolo is archaic. I've installed Fender locking turners and a roller nut, Graphtek saddles and string trees, and I've lubricated every contact point. Still can't play a set without tuning problems. If this device does what they says it does than it's worth every penny.
I know it is a GREAT product but I just just think is about $100 dollars too expensive I think :( but it will probably be what finally solves the tuning problem on one of my guitars.
Do you think this has enough play to work on a guitar with a 1 & 7/8 inch nut width? I'd also be curious if after 3 years you still have one installed on a guitar in your studio. 😜 Thanks in advance.
I’m thinking that it won’t help with intonation on frets 1-4 from a nut cut too shallow? To me that’s the #issue I have with Fender nuts, even USA. Gibson nite as you mentioned, have their own nut issue brought on by the string angle
Hey Tone King im new to home recording and amp sims. I just ran across your donner di box/cab emulator. Just curious which Di/cab emulator would be best for heavier metal tones? Thanks again for the vids:-)
Just goes to show you how far behind guitar manufactures are when it comes to things. We've been buying dinosaur designs of the same things for decades and decades, when it's products like this that could greatly improve a guitar.
You can do the same thing by floating a Floyd style locking nut behind your nut for $6.60 with free one-day shipping from your favorite jungle themed online store... AAAND you can install it without removing your strings, and match your hardware color of choice. And avoid the giant NUTBUSTER logo.
180$ still cheaper than a floyd rose or quality tuners that dont work. however the test needs to be on the gtars people actually buy these products for, like jackson minions or gtars that are below $500.
It's cheaper (and better) to learn how to use your tuners, proper nut care and string it the correct way. Amazing how many people dont really understand friction and what it does. That tuner is far over priced at $180. Wrapping the strings the correct way, learning how to properly tune a guitar and lubing your nut properly, work as well. And TBH, most tuners arent properly cared for the correct way either. A guitar doesn't have to be gadgetted to be good or stay in tune. It just has to be done properly, which most people dont do.
This is a bit bull.. I have a fender strat with floating tremolo and if you put the strings in correctly and stretch them correctly then do a lot of tremolo dives and pulls and stretching and tuning until its set then it stays in tune perfectly. I have played a 1 hour 30 min set with no tuning issues. If you can set your guitar up properly then you don't need this
I would think these just cover up improper setup issues? If a guitar has a properly setup nut and PROPERLY setup locking tuners (almost no string on the post), stability should be basically perfect.
A tube of nut sauce can fix a lot. I prefer low action with 10's on a strait neck. Even the "dreaded " Gibson g string issue everyone cries about, doesn't exist. A proper setup for me.
Define proper. The nut is the not the root cause of tuning instability on a floating vibrato system. It is an entire system that needs to be addressed and how you tune it and how you play. The reason his B string came back in tune was because he just finished dive bombing then tuned, that method works even on the crappiest guitar with an Improperly cut nut. You can have $10K guitar with a properly cut nut but if it isn’t setup for what you are doing then at some point you fail. You can setup to bend or dive or pull up but you won’t get perfection for all 3. This applies to a Floyd as well. It’s physics it isn’t product quality. All internet people talk a big game like they know the answer yet nothing they own has perfect tuning, how do you think you got here in the first place?
This handy little $30 device isn't $30 - no it's $175! No, not kidding - this little thing probably cost as much as your guitar! Suggest you move on and find a roller bridge and Tusq nut and STILL have money left over vs this!
There was a similar idea an elder gentleman did a few years back. RUclips community trashed him. Douchebags. You promote something, same people who trashed him eat it up.
Sorry but a properly set up guitar with strings fully stretched, proper nut height and cut and any decent quality tuners will result in tuning stability. Also locking tuners are for quick and easy string changes not tuning stability .. spend the money on a professional setup rather than these band aid gadgets

This on a les paul might solve all the Gstring tuning problems
Exactly!!!
though it costs a pretty penny its actually a neat little product. love new innovations.
Locking tuners were not designed for tuning stability. Only for quick string changes.
TRUE!
A bit of both I think, they’re definitely not designed to keep strings in tune for tremolos
They were, but they're just part of the equation. Nut and saddles are the others.
It's crazy how no one understands this
Great device to try on, well done TTK, another great gear advice from you....A+!
The guitar NutBuster is fantastic and it works:
Tony is a genius to of produced the nut buster, and Johnny deMarco amazing guitar player ( A LEGEND ).
I'm thinking something with a (real) floating wood bridge with a Bigsby perhaps? Good vid.

*Acoustic ad Violins start playing*
why dont they build it with a hinge on the side so you can put it on and take it off without taking out the strings
That should reduce the string tension as well, especially on the higher strings, by reducing the overall string length. Theoretically bending on the high E string should be easier.
Yes, however it's NOT fixed!
DMSProduktions oh yeah, hadn’t considered that
@@Hypervigilant Yeah, I realized that, so i guess they are retentioning each other.

So cool, as this company is just across town!
That looks like a 1986 strat kahler tremolo i loved mine
I dk I never have problems with my trem staying in tune on my Strat, whether floating or dive only. I learned how to set the trem properly (loosening the screws etc) and it stays perfect now
The locking nut on my tremolo guitar was of no use to me, but the locking pegs to rear hand adjusting will work for my tremolo guitar.
Does it work on floating bridges and your tuning would have been better if you used a roller nut and roller string trees along with those locking tuners but I like that idea as well, thanks for sharing !
The bridge is most likely the culprit on floating tremolos. I don’t think anyone has proven that locking tuners actually fix anything.

You are great at explaining!!!!!!!
Does it mount to the headstock, or just attach to the strings? If it bolts to the headstock, how does it hinder your ability to adjust the truss rod?

If the tuner is twisting into the string, how many tunes will it take to break the string..?
Which brand is that blue Flying V with the floyd rose?

Just buy a Peterson tuner, it is even cheaper than the Nut Buster.
