HEY. Soooo I've gotten a couple comments on this video saying things along the lines of... I'm only naming places for rich white people to live, or that I'm racist, or that I'm leaving out places because I'm too good for them in some way. The comments are not only mean and profane, but TOTALLY wrong. In fact, one person mentioned a specific city that I'd left out because I'm "racist." Guess what darling, I LIVE in that city. So.... no. This video is not a list of neighborhoods that I think are cute and fancy and glamorous. These are neighborhoods that are MOST CONVENIENT for actors because they are closer to casting offices, acting studios, etc. I have a long ass commute to my auditions sometimes, because I bought a house that's on the outskirts; I'm only trying to advise LA newcomers on their best choices. Take a look at my list of "NO" Neighborhoods for actors. Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Calabasas... think twice before you make an ignorant statement. Thanks guys! xo
Angie Patterson oh wow! You don’t owe an explanation for their own insecurities! If they think that then oh well.. That means their head is screwed up! Fuck’em! Keep doing you !!! Good job girl!!
Guys, listen to me, going to college in L.A or overall in the U.S will increase the chances of you ending up being homeless or very poor, which is not what anyone here wants. So do the exact same thing as me and my cousin did. I've lived in Europe all my life, I was born and raised there. When I was looking for a good college in Belgium I found out that the diploma/degree of Europe is valid in the U.S. This means that I can easily find the job that I'm looking for in the U.S with this diploma. BUT the diploma of the U.S is NOT valid in Europe. So whether you want to stay in the U.S or move to Europe, the best decision is to go to college in Europe. It's really not expensive. You can get a temporarily nationality or citizenship, you can rent or buy a good apartment for a very good price in a nice neighborhood and college is not expensive at all. It's like 2000€ a year. And the government covers most of it for you. Believe it or not. The only thing you have to pay for when it comes to college are your books which cost 1000€, which is not alot. BUT if you go to college in L.A you're gonna pay 74000$ a year. That's alot of money if you ask me. So here's what my cousin and I did. So since I was born in Belgium, I went to college and hopefully if everything works out for me, I'll get my degree in 2 years. Then I'll move to L.A and I'll look for a job with that degree. It's law that I'm doing btw so I'll have to look for a job as an attorney and once I get one I'll move to L.A. Permanently. I'll have my nationality cuz I'm obviously gonna pay for it. Here's what my cousin did. She was born in L.A and lives there to this day. But she went to college in Paris cuz it's alot cheaper. Then she went back to L.A. This is like a life-hack. You basically get to go to college for a very good price. So my advise to you(which you don't have to take) is that you go to college in Europe and then go back to the U.S. You'll end up paying +/- 5% of what you were actually gonna have to pay if you went to college in the U.S. And an extra bonus of going to college in Europe is that you'll learn new languages which will increase your chances of getting a job. Whatever you do, good luck and I hope all of you get what you want.
Yeah I don’t have a car either and I Uber but when I have an audition what I typically do is I leave in enough time to take the metro train and ride as close as I can to get to where I need to be and then I will Uber or Lyft from there - it has saved me a lot of money and I am able to afford to pay for acting classes because if I would have still had my car, I don’t know how I would survive - my Car Note with Insurance was almost $600 a month.
Keishanna Michele Thank you! She makes it sound like using the Metro in LA is impossible (i like how you mix that up with Lyft and Uber). And while Santa Monica and DTLA is 16.5 miles apart, the EXPO Line train makes it so much more bearable, a great alternative/less stressful over being stuck on the 10 Freeway in Rush Hour traffic for sure.
This helped me so much! You got to the point and I didn’t have to watch a 1 hour long video! Lol! I’m moving there in 3 weeks.. Super scared but, excited. Thank you!!
Great vid! I grew up in the Palisades. I just made a video about moving to LA from the perspective of someone who grew up in LA. I live in Florida now.
I am relocating to be on the west end in Santa Monica from Atlanta. 6 miles in ATL can make the difference of 45 minutes or more. Your video gave me some good insight on the reality of that gap between Santa Monica and actual LA. Thanks!
Nice vid Angie, best of luck on your acting goals. LA is a huge city, with lots of colorful characters, lol. I grew up there, so i'm familiar with most of the areas you mentioned. For anyone new to it, definitely do your research before moving . Call a real estate agent and get their advice. They know more than anyone about the neighborhoods .Be warned, It can be expensive !
I'm only 16 (almost 17) but I've been wanting to get out of New York City for a while now since I don't like it here. I want to move to LA and I want to be near Downtown and where all of the attractions are but not live there you know. What are some safe and not so expensive neighbourhoods near Downtown and the tourist attractions? Thanks in advance!
Hi! Just so you know, "Downtown" is more of an industrial part of the city, not so much where attractions are, and it's actually pretty far from the busy parts of the city, especially in traffic. You might want to look at more central areas like Hollywood and West Hollywood. The valley (Studio City, Sherman Oaks) are a tiny but farther but definitely cheaper.
Why don't you try South Pasadena? Its nicer than dtla. Everyone thinks that if they come to LA,it has to be downtown. Downtown is where you work or go with someone to eat. Pasadena is where you go home after leaving dtla.
Mapquest! Yes! Lol I got around Houston with mapquest back in the day. I am debating on whether to move to Dallas or L.A. with my son in about four more years. L.A. cost of living is higher, but I just love California. I think Dallas could be more of the back up plan, but not sure yet.
Angie girl you're 1 smart Woman this video was so helpful I just purchased a new car we are ready for the traffic LOL.I'm moving to LA in a few months from Texas with my Aspiring Actress 9 year old Daughter this video was Amazing!
Downtown Long Beach is blowing up. A city-like atmosphere downtown, with smaller hot-spot pockets just a mile or two away (Belmont Shore & North Long Beach.) Blue Line train to downtown. Electric Scooter & bike share programs. FREE red bus and electric golf-cart transportation around the city. Great place for gay people, especially gay women. Thousands of apartments going up. Long Beach Airport MUCH more convenient than LAX. Billions are being invested in the city to prepare for the Olympics. But it's not overly-crowded as of yet, and rents are relatively cheap.
I love your videos! All your videos are the things I tell actors what to do and what not to do yet they don’t listen to me lol. I’m also learning new things from you as well :) keep at it!
Do you think COVID will impact business in LA? Will that mean more digital companies will audition, which would mean more auditions in Santa Monica? Just speculating, would love your thoughts.
Good question - I really don't know enough to guess what'll happen with businesses, but I can tell you that as of right now, almost ALL auditions are happening virtually. And it's extremely slow.
You are so beautiful and speak very well on the camera! I never watched an actress youtuber before :) You can make a huge success in RUclips, I recommend you may consider upgrading you microphone and editing a little. Moving LA videos are interesting to watch! I have terrible navigation skills as well. Thanks for sharing your tips for living in LA. I am considering to move LA from Manhattan NY I feel so sad to leave NY and probably I will be living in NY -LA 50-50 next year. But I just need a backyard and sunshine thats why I want to move to Los Angeles :)
I want to Move to LA. Just don't know where to stay? Im doing music and i need studio sessions and a place to live that's reasonable!! Thanks for the help!!
This is hilarious but terrifying that me and my roommates always wanted to move to LA from Boise because I wanting a career in the film/TV industry one day! Yeah sure CA is really expensive to live but people are making more money before moving into a new state!
I'm planning on moving to LA after college from Georgia, I prefer temperatures under 80, modern cities, and probably somewhere where things aren't too expensive. I'm working on building my portfolio and getting an internship in Cartoon network for animation and illustration, so I'm guessing all those points combined lead me up to burbank? Are there any other cities that would be better for someone knew to LA or is Burbank my best bet for what I want out of cali life? Also what sort of jobs are best starting out there?
I love Burbank! The Disney animation studios are there too. But it does get hot, since it's technically in the valley. In the 100's in the summer. Check out my video on day jobs!
Hi, where should we live if we want to be close to the studios to work in the industry and still get the beach not to far like 20 MIN from the beach ?i am from the costume field.
Hey actually I just turned 14 and I want to be a Hollywood actress and I 'd like to start my career in Hollywood so can you tell me the safest and the best location for me to shift and I am not rich so pls tell me the name of a good area to stay and start on my acting career near to downtown cause I think downtown is safe and I will get better acting opportunity over there I need your help!
How much is rent in these areas? I thought about moving there for university. Where I live here in Silicon Valley we pay 2500 for a two bedroom house. Usually with roommates in ranges from 800-1200.
Not too many houses for rent around here, mostly apartments. Each neighborhood has different averages, but by The Grove, for example, you can get a decent 1 bedroom for around $2000, or 2 bedroom around $3000.
Hey Angie... i want to move to LA a second Time. 2017 i was in LA. Can you help me? Where is the best place to rent an Appartement for holiday? I love hollywood and santa monica.
Coming from someone who’s lived in Santa Monica all their life, 10 years back it was just like how she described it but now it’s changed cause more idiots keep coming in and Santa Monica isn’t even as close as big as New York city therefore opportunities last depending on your own quality of life(rich actors).cities like Santa Monica n downtown just lure these types into its quality compared to how traditional it was for the people that live there for generations.
Those are nice too, Encino would probably be closest to all the actor action. Reseda and Tarzana are further, so... more time in traffic. They're good cities for families.
Idk. My dads an actor and I live in Pacific Palisades. I see what you’re saying, and the cost of living is fucking outrageous, but it’s still a nice place.
The problem is too many people want to move there, I get it, but people listen up, make sure you have money, or getting a good job! I want to live there too, but so many people will create problems, eh what can you do. Just be prepared.
You are WRONG About Glendale! When I lived in La I live in Glendale for 3 and 1/2 years my job was located in Downtown LA and sometimes I have to drive to Santa Monica for our other facilities. Glendale was perfect! Close to Burbank, Pasadena, downtown LA, Hollywood, and Griffin Park. Oh yeah. And it's only 15 minutes away from Studio City lady
It depends how often you think you'll be needing to travel into LA for jobs. Depends on what you do exactly. If you can work from home or don't need to be in the city too often, I would check out the outskirts like Woodland Hills, Glendale, etc. for less expensive options. If you need to be very central, then any of these neighborhoods I suggested for actors will work!
Just my two cents, avoid Los Angeles if you can. Horrible traffic, rude and aggressive drivers. The cost of living is enormously high and unattainable for the regular person. Most people who live in California want out and wish to live somewhere else where taxes and housing costs are lower. If you want excitement and bright lights perhaps give Vegas a try.
What you're talking about is the west side, not "mid LA". I understand that for actors this might be the "center", but what viewers may not understand that it's really the far west side of LA. Downtown really is in the center.
I’m not trying to ruins anyone’s dream I recommend Santa Monica to any student and good luck anyone who wants to be an actor or relocated for a job sure. But don’t be this lady only to waste money and time.this is what makes the ELITES win.I’m just a messenger
I would like to become an actress but i am thinking of earning my real estate license and becoming a real estate broker at my local community college but i figured real estate would be somewhat realistic, and im looking into the santa monica area (i live in western nebraska) but would real estate be a good career choice? Do real estate agents make a good income? I have thought about stem but that would take a long time
Hi ! You are so gorgeous. I want a little help from you my son is going to start his Bfa course from NYFA this year can you please help us to find a suitable place to live in Burbank area
Sherman Oaks is very much a part of LA. With no traffic, you can get to Santa Monica in 25 minutes, West Hollywood in 35, and downtown in 40. With traffic... it's a different story. But it's a great choice.
Yes, good for families. There are definitely nice parts, I'd crime level is... moderate. But definitely family friendly. Not central to LA really though. Anaheim is about an hour away and Riverside is way farther.
Man, I've lived in Inglewood and Westchester... about to move to Torrance... never once had a problem. Not one. These are fine communities. Inglewood, other people had some issues I guess. But when you don't be nosey, it doesn't become your problem. It really really does sound like all your yes neighborhoods are affluent and white...
HEY. Soooo I've gotten a couple comments on this video saying things along the lines of... Angie Patterson where in LA areas where it is dog friendly
@@ryannance9114 Literally the entire city is dog friendly! Plenty of dog friendly apartment buildings.
@Jax S you don't know what your saying.

Great video. As a New Yorker looking to move to L.A this video is by far most organized and easy to understand. Thank you 🤗🤗😎🙏🌴🧁
I wanna go to L.A for college then after college I’m planning on buying an apartment there. I’ve been wanting to get out of Florida for like forever

Great video, super helpful, thanks so much!
Great tips & video! Thx!
Love your video. Any thoughts on moving to Mid-Wilshire or Culver City?
Both great areas. Culver City does have a studio there, but there's not a TON of auditions over there. Mid-Wilshire is more central.
Heyyy From Koreatown lol i used to live DTLA..it takes a certain person to so it lol. Love ur channel!!
How come you didn't mentioned north hollywood and noho arts district?
Good point - I should've. It's especially great for theater actors. But not that close to the central hub of the city... it's affordable though!

Great video! What do you think about brentwood/westwood vs santa monica? Is wilshire montana an ideal place to live?
It's a really nice area, and lots of young people. Not entirely central for actors though. There are a few audition studios in Santa Monica.

"Convenience" is very relative...

For actors new to the business, they are a bit expensive, and not central to where auditions are held.
Malibu is where you move once youve made it >
@@melchiorao9759 yes! but calabasas is slightly cheaper than some people expect i think
A lot of stars live in the hills from Griffith Park to Calabasas to Malibu.
Last time I checked the LA bus schedule (I’m not in CA), it looked like it expanded a lot.
I'm someone working in the film industry as a freelancer, what neighborhood would be ideal for me or people in my occupation?
It depends how often you think you'll be needing to travel into LA for jobs. Depends on what you do exactly. If you can work from home or don't need to be in the city too often, I would check out the outskirts like Woodland Hills, Glendale, etc. for less expensive options. If you need to be very central, then any of these neighborhoods I suggested for actors will work!
what about east hollywood? near to LACC , hows the neighbourhood around there? is it safe for me as a international student!?
The area right around the college isn't great to live in, but Los Feliz or Hancock Park nearby would be much better.
😊 Thanks Angie, ur videos are awesome btw ! subscribeed👍🏻..
thanks
Cool channel. Subscribed +1
The audio's so quiet :(
heyyy we love ls over here
What you're talking about is the west side, not "mid LA". I understand that for actors this might be the "center", but what viewers may not understand that it's really the far west side of LA. Downtown really is in the center.
Yep, that's why I made sure to clarify in the description box that this video is definitely meant for actors and their purposes.
I have thought about stem but that would take a long time
A lot of actors do real estate as a day job! I don't know exactly what a realtor makes but it's a great idea. Good luck!
Hi ! You are so gorgeous. I want a little help from you my son is going to start his Bfa course from NYFA this year can you please help us to find a suitable place to live in Burbank area
Hi! I'm sorry I'm not able to directly help you find a place but here's a video on it! xo
Downey ca Porto’s bakery. Aerospace museum
How far is Sherman oaks form LA?
Sherman Oaks is very much a part of LA. With no traffic, you can get to Santa Monica in 25 minutes, West Hollywood in 35, and downtown in 40. With traffic... it's a different story. But it's a great choice.
Thank you
My god you’re top drawer looking fair play
There's a "not so safe" part of Hollywood? Lol cali native so that made me laugh, video was cute though :)
That made me laugh as well :)
Come to Crenshaw and Slauson
yeah
Thank you for all the information ❤🤙and also you look like a cop the role would suits you(just an opinion )
Thanks! I did get to play a cop-like role recently - can't talk about it till it airs but I'll definitely make an announcement :)
I really want to go to LA
Reuben Singh Carson, Torrance, Hawthorne, Lawndale and Gardena are good places to live in California.
Dennis Esguerra I agree ☝🏼
Is Anahaien and riverside good for families?
J Ds thanks a lot
Yes, good for families. There are definitely nice parts, I'd crime level is... moderate. But definitely family friendly. Not central to LA really though. Anaheim is about an hour away and Riverside is way farther.
I still use mapquest...
I’m not actually going for acting or anything
My goodness, you’re beautiful. I love you’re video also.
Great video but I could barely hear you.
Sorry! I've heard from one other person that the sound is off; I don't hear any issues on my end, but I'm trying to figure out what the problem is...
You all should stay home
What about Van Nuys? I heard that this are is bad in LA... It's true or not?
It's WAY better than it used to be, lots of nice little pockets, but not very central for auditions.
Closer to Ventura Blvd or even on other side the better.
Can I live with you?
I'd like to see you some day.
Can I move in with you?
Hi Angie,
You are so beautiful! I hope I can get to meet you sometime. I live in NYC.
You're an angel. You cant be real!! *_*
I came here only to see her talking
Haha thanks I'll take it!
Hii
MAPQUEST!!!!
Ur gorgeous😍😍
Those eyes
the title of this video is stupid and complete click bait. STATES ITS FOR ACTORS ONLY if thats what you are sharing.
Man, I've lived in Inglewood and Westchester... about to move to Torrance... never once had a problem. Not one. These are fine communities. Inglewood, other people had some issues I guess. But when you don't be nosey, it doesn't become your problem. It really really does sound like all your yes neighborhoods are affluent and white...
hezzi 💀that last part sounds so retarded, she is just saying that those are the best areas to live in terms of safety not anything about race
Carson, Hawthorne, Lawndale and Gardena are good places to live too. I used to live in the anza apartment in Torrance.
You look like a hot mom
Thanks, I'll take it ;)
Ohh never thought you will reply ..but hey ..thanks for the reply
you’re insanely bomb
Wow your Beautiful
