As someone who decided to do the same thing in my youth by building my own chassis and realising after wasting a large amount of rhs tubing that it would probably take the rest of my life to finish it, I salute you!
More car video less owner's face, especially when talking about a particular mod. I found myself trying to will the cameraman's view down to the car. LOL
halzark Agreed.... was so interested in seeing what he was talking about when he was talking about it but that camera person was determined to not miss one facial expression on dudes face hahahahha
Yep unless your Jeremy clarkson or one of the trio of top gear. (What everyone knows as the real top gear) you better have the car your talking about in the background. No one wants to look at a guy talking about cars unless your special.
That's incredible! I of course mean both the car and JG's beard, but the car is probably quicker. I love the "dive in and do it" attitude. I just got a welder and I wouldn't be brave enough to scratch build a car!
Well done Paul, love the concepts you've incorporated in the build. At 7:27 you mention anti-caster, but I think you mean anti-camber, or loss of camber. This is normal with unequal length and diverging A arms. Can't really fix it other than adding more static camber, more caster and/or reducing King Pin Inclination (Steering Axis Inclination). Modelling with a suspension design program like Susprog3D or whatever, will give you some grounding in the compromises of these issues.
I noticed the DC-3 in the background. If I could build one of these things I would Buy the chassis and bodywork and stuff in LS-3 and paddle shifted auto trans.
An after market trans is about $6K. I saved about 10lbs overall but a significant reduction in rotational mass and removed nearly 1/3rd of the friction loss of the transmission. Removing 5th and 6th cost almost nothing and was a fun challenge.
Any advice on where I can learn more about mating engines to car frames? I've been learning how to weld with my powertig welder and how to shape tubing and metal sheet but I am lacking knowledge about engines.
go on 4chan, in /t there's always a guy seeding a massive collection of ebooks about car tuning and engine rebuild. you gotta know how to download, but this is the easiest way to find which books you really need to buy.
Autocross aero tends to be a lot more aggressive than aero designed around higher speed tracks. To some extent, that spoiler is just a big air brake, but it creates a lot of localized high pressure which translates into leverage on the rear of the car. At the lower autocross speeds, there's more than enough power to overcome the additional drag.
OK, you've got me subscribed. Just a tip though, don't get me wrong, I'm sure you're good with the ladies, but can we get less of your face and more camera on the points of the vehicle while you're discussing them?
James Copeland so....you’re upset he didn’t mention you, Mister Drumpf? What is the video supposed to be about if it’s a guy talking about his scratch-built garage racer? The cost of tea in China?
its all about handling and power-to-weight; look at the original Lotus 7, that would be lucky to have 100hp, but was plenty fast; speed is not all about huge v8s and massive horsepower.
racketman2u I happen to race this type of car (see my videos) and with the ridiculously bad aerodynamics this type of car has they lose all acceleration above 80mph so big power is a must for these cars, I'm currently running 576bhp and the car weighs 480kg wet. I'm currently having a front and double rear carbon wings made witch should generate around 800kg of down force once set up in the wind tunnel and then I'll be looking for even more power. (around 750bhp)
This is something I can appreciate .. simply functional ... no bs .. no cosmetics .. just pure performance
As someone who decided to do the same thing in my youth by building my own chassis and realising after wasting a large amount of rhs tubing that it would probably take the rest of my life to finish it, I salute you!
i love how he threw this thing together no science just ingenuity. rock on.
If he managed to do all that and keep the Mrs. around this guy is a legend. Congrats Paul! :)
Totally diggin it! Love all the technical bits. Enjoy! 👍🏻
A proper go-getter of a chap.
Well done man.

How can you not like this bloke?
Paul is a great guy. We see him a lot at local auto crosses and he's always a hoot to hang out with.
This guy is my new hero. Didn't know anything about building cars and said effe it and built it anyways. Welds look like mine lol
Wanted to see it perform
ruclips.net/video/lJRjyIqb07E/видео.html
Now that looks fun to build and drive. Great job.
Good work Paul.
What a nice bloke.cheers, mate!
Very cool machine !!!
LOOK AT HOW HAPPY THIS MAN IS
yeah totally. To have (any) hobby is just such an enrichment
Yes many women are horrified and feel it should be amended
Way cool, Paul!
That's incredible! I of course mean both the car and JG's beard, but the car is probably quicker. I love the "dive in and do it" attitude. I just got a welder and I wouldn't be brave enough to scratch build a car!
Paul's Garage do it it may seem hard at first but talk to people use internet you will solve your problems and the rewards are well worth it

I wish Paul all the best results in his racing. He seems like a nice guy deicated to a sport he really loves.
Awesome. Love home built stuff like this.
This guy stole my life
u did a very good job and honest review
Awesome. Good job. I hope I'll get to building something like that soon.
Lotus 7 based on a RX8 chassis with a Honda power plant and Supra running gear.
I dont care about the man who built it or his face. Show the damn car while he is talking!
Need to get a second camera guy involved so they can keep one on the owner and one going around the car
That has got to be a lot of fun.
What a nice guy! I'd love to buy him a beer and talk shop.
Very nice job. Only way I can run an S2000 would be to do what you did. Would be a lot of fun. Keep the peddle down. :)
Good Job!
Minor quibble; the S2000 engine was originally a 2.0, then Honda went to a 2.4, all done with crankshaft stroke.
Thanks for sharing the video JG.
Get that thing back together !
That was awesome
So why didn't you show the car on track?
Amazing build!👍🏼 She should be named Frankenstein!
I noticed the DC-3 in the background. If I could build one of these things I would Buy the chassis and bodywork and stuff in LS-3 and paddle shifted auto trans.
Awesome! :-)
thats what it takes
hell yea Paul!!!!
Small plexiglass wind screen for rain days like a Motorcycle faring windscreen.
just have fun thats what its all about
engineered !, love it
Some serious tires on the rear
hats off to ya mate. looks like you get a lot of pleasure from your car, nice work. et rid r all the earo crap to go faster
:)
Two questions how much weight was saved by dropping 5&6 gear and wouldn't it been better to buy a aftermarket trans
He was talking about rotational mass. Same reason why you lighten the flywheel. More on getting every bit of cheap acceleration as possible.
An after market trans is about $6K. I saved about 10lbs overall but a significant reduction in rotational mass and removed nearly 1/3rd of the friction loss of the transmission. Removing 5th and 6th cost almost nothing and was a fun challenge.
Amazing, no video of it running?

Are you on Buckingham fl airport
That rear spoiler must be like draging a paashute ...
Why 90 degrees ? Should have more angle .
It look like your in FL, Where at?
Buckingham airfield, near Ft Myers.
Is this at buckingham air strip in ft Myers? Gulf coast autocrossers?
Edit: just got to 9:39
Hey Paul, good job! What are you using for an ECU?
AEM EMS V2
He aged a hell of a lot in 4 years!!!
Any advice on where I can learn more about mating engines to car frames? I've been learning how to weld with my powertig welder and how to shape tubing and metal sheet but I am lacking knowledge about engines.

Check out the Locost forum www.locostusa.com/forums lots of builder on there.
Mr2 in the background :D
This is Buckingham airfield ?
Yep. Good call.
might be a cool car guess we have to take your word for it... did leave the line quick though
ruclips.net/video/6KPJHv2YOL0/видео.html
Wow, you grew up fast in four years. Must've been a bright child, I was eating mud when I was a baby, not building race cars. :)
why dont you show him running it??
Show us the car
Been in America too long, started saying aluuuminum 😂😂
Avons vs A-7s?
Avon's are a full race tire. The A7 is a dot Race tire. Race tires are lighter and have higher grip levels (when used correctly).
I can't stop looking at his eyebrows
Thank god I'm not running in D mod. Great story, but the vid could use less show and more go.
That rear diffuser (wing) looks like a big old airbrake can't see how that's beneficial aerodynamically
The energy he tapped into to build the car comes out in his presentation. Dude loves life!
Except the flow is not staying attached, there's literally no point except creating a lot drag and some leverage, there's no downforce.
Unfortunately D and EMod are limited aero classes that only allow a 10" spoiler, No wings. What I have is basically all your are aloud :-(
Our ckr region would protest for no hood...no joke
Crazy accent fella. Half Brit half yank
Haha, I'm British but traveled the world with the Army after joining at 17. Ive spent the last 10 years in the good old USA.
yeah, "route" is pronounced "root" as in "route 66"!
Less talky, more drivey.
OK, you've got me subscribed. Just a tip though, don't get me wrong, I'm sure you're good with the ladies, but can we get less of your face and more camera on the points of the vehicle while you're discussing them?
Fort Myers, FL.
Why don't people just use the original chassis
jeeeeesus you speak too much ;-) A lovely project
10 minutes car video...9 minutes watching a guy.
Show more of the car, less of the bloke talking…
Ah They let it on the track? Anyhow any carpenter knows "Think first" and" Measure twice cut once. " This is like a Roadkill episode gone bad.
Couldn't find your build anywhere care to share a link?
Action footage of the car: 0:02
10:25 o some self-absorbed scrap builder with a welder
James Copeland so....you’re upset he didn’t mention you, Mister Drumpf? What is the video supposed to be about if it’s a guy talking about his scratch-built garage racer? The cost of tea in China?
show the Damn car when dude is talkin!!!!
too much yappin', not enough drivin'
Lotus 7 style cars don't get fast until you get over 500bhp also looks unfinished
It's not finished, nor will it ever be, it will keep evolving. It has better power to weight ratio then a Dodge Hellcat so it's reasonably fast.
@Big2009Gee ; I've seen a lot of stupid statements lately , but yours is today's winner.
racketman2u why is that ?
its all about handling and power-to-weight; look at the original Lotus 7, that would be lucky to have 100hp, but was plenty fast; speed is not all about huge v8s and massive horsepower.

what a dangerous piece of shit, should not be allowed to use it, seen better welds at apprentice school
10 min. Of talk,,, fail
eh, good job but seen better,
I've seen better too but this one is mine :-)
Too much face, not enough car.
on s en fout
All show ... no go ..... lame.
This is simply terrible. What a waste of a F20 engine.
Savage! Sorry you don't approve. Care to share a link of your home made car?
