It is Christmas break and Erika’s classmates, Marin Tachibana and Aki Tezuka make a promise with her to share selfies of how they spent Christmas with their boyfriends. Erika tells Kyouya that they have to take a selfie as proof. Kyouya complies, however grudgingly so. Erika learns of Kyouya’s dislike about Christmas and stresses out so much that she gets a stomachache. Kyouya takes her to the nearest restaurant before going to the pharmacy for stomach medication. When Kyouya “confesses” his feeling to her, Erika becomes ecstatic. However, Kyouya crushes those feelings by asking her how long he has to keep up this monkey business. Erika throws water at him and storms out. Kyouya sits in shock. When Christmas rolls around, Erika is still depressed and saddened over Kyouya. Kyouya makes a surprise visit and gives her a “dog collar”, a pretty golden heart necklace pendant. They take new selfies.

This anime portrays how blinded love really makes you. She admires him so much too the point that any horrible thing he does she ignores just because she wants him to like her back. She puts up with his manipulative stupid shit just for love. Some might say well she brought that upon herself but i think she was just lonely. Nobody wants to be alone and even if u do there is some kind of thing out there keeping u going.
Been through that. I put up with someone’s shit just because I didn’t want to be alone. I even chased after him I was so blinded by love. He did try to come back some years later but I was already with someone else. I’m glad I let it go, honestly. He wasn’t the one.
This is an anime that romanticises emotional abuse.
In the manga, he gets better and admits he'd be lonely without her. They even have a kid together

Okay so I just finished the manga (it was an amazing read!) and a lot of events happen between these episodes that show why Erika loves Kyouya so much and why Kyouya treats Erika that way. The guy has some serious abandonment issues! Not that it's an excuse but it was so cute to see how Erika pried open his heart lol

It's so easy to judge him as a complete un-redeemable character when you don't watch the whole series and learn that his tough character is nothing but a defense built because of past trauma and a tough older sibling.

This kind of behaviour should not be glossed over. You are not responsible for anyone's well-being (besides YOUR OWN) no matter what the other person has been through. If he was a decent human being, he would've stopped toying with her and just ended it, but he ended up a manipulative coward instead. If she had more than 2 brain cells, she would've moved on from him in the first episode.

All those people commenting about toxic love you guys need to know that Kyoya's behaviour towards Erika was caused intially because of the misconception he had of her due to her proposal of pretentious relationship.But then this misconception got cleared slowly and his behaviour towards her changes.So it's no longer toxic.Erika is after him because she knows that Kyoya is a good person and she was trying to clear the misconception he has.The relationship was only toxic when they pretended to be couple.After they realise how much they love each other their relationship was no longer pretentious and toxic.He showed his genuine love and care towards her.
