Oh I love that guitar. Thanks Jeff for all these improv tactic videos. There is not much out there video-wise for people that love this kind of content. String skipping and large intervals can help with this also.
Hi Jeff, I have been enjoying your content for several years. One extra layer for the Mixolydian with added b6: this 8 note scale in C Mixo can be simplified into the 4 inversions each of CMaj6 and Bb7 chord pairs. Sort of a Barry Harris or even Pat Martino influenced mindset. Trey may think a little differently about this topic, but he was talking on Instagram last week about moving from the V chord G7 to Bb7 as a way to resolve upward instead of back downward to the I chord CMaj.
Cool! I gotta check that out. I watched a little bit of the first couple videos he posted. I haven't listened to Pat Martino in forever. He could really takes thing 'out'!
We would be adding the Bb right and not grabbing the B’s as that note is a natural 6 and. Not a Bb….. I hate to come off as so critical. I enjoy your video lessons.
Yup that's it. I mean it's not it all a 'rule' or exact thing. I've just noticed Trey and others adding the b6 (Bb) to take things 'out'. Still can be playing the B (Maj 6) but when leaving that out it definitely takes it even more 'out'.
@@JeffWilliamsGuitar can’t stand Trey but I think he is a guitar virtuoso. Anything to the contrary is just false. He knows his theory. Jerry just flowed….. ha!
this reminds of the phrase Miles Davis used when working with John Mclaughlin and Chick Corea where he told them to forget everything they knew about playing before they recorded.
Yep. In A Silent Way. Don't know about Corea, but he told McLaughlin to play like someone who's never played the guitar before. Of course, McLaughlin being McLaughlin he still rips like a god lol.
yes to what Scofield said...even beyond that, I think a lot of times guys are not overly concerned with the intellectual or theoretical side of it...it becomes innate or integrated :)

If you have Trey Anastasio content, I'm all ears bro.
Keep it coming.
Thanks, Jeff. Going to try this today at band practice
No prob.

One simple way to get outside is to take a phrase, repeat it a few times and then move it up or down one fret... then move it back again to resolve.
Who makes the guitar you are playing? Never seen those before.
Great video! Could you possibly do one like this on waves particularly 8/15/11
Thanks Scott! Yeah, that's a great idea.
Listen to if I had the world to give by Grateful Dead (live 11/20/78). Jerry definitely uses this
I'll have to check that out

Good stuff.
Thanks Thomas.
Cool video. Almost has a Phrygian sound.
Thanks Eric. Yeah, changing just one note can create a whole new mood.

@@sinane.y thank you that's what I was looking for. he wanted John to have the most refreshing perspective

5th mode of melodic minor
When in doubt, think OUT.
Haha! I'm stealing that phrase!
