Hey I played Alleyway recently on the Gameboy NSO when it came out. It's super fun and gives a different pace from when we play first party games like Mario platformers.
I also like Alleyway a lot. I also like Breakout and other games that play like Breakout but Alleyway is amazing. The music is great too especially the bonus music. I could play this forever when I have enough time.
Woah, I had no idea Intelligent Systems made a breakout clone before they made Fire Emblem. Apparently they worked on Metroid and a lot of the launch NES games, too!
The Gold Mario statue was also seen in “BS Super Mario USA”, a version of the US SMB2 where random mechanics occur, and you collect Gold Mario statues for extra lives. Also, the Super Mario Bros. Super Show had an episode where Bowser becomes “Koopzilla”, much like how SimCity has Bowser in this situation.
In Captain Rainbow you can also fish a blooper. And then there's a portrait of Mario himself hanging inside Crazy Tracy's house, alongside Link from Legend of Zelda, because those are are two guys she considers "real men". Nick has to do everything he can to get Takamaru (the protagonist from the Famicom game Nazo no Murasamejo) to overcome his fear of women and get him and Tracy together (after which Takamaru's portrait joins those of Mario and Link above her throne).
I love the SMB3 easter egg in Celeste: in Chapter 4, you can crouch on a white platform and fall into the background for a -secret-, just like you would to get a warp whistle in SMB3!
I heard about Capitan Rainbow briefly, but i knew that Alleyway was added in NSO app, because of Mario been the main character in that game, despite the bland nature. Noneless, i didn't knew Pilotwings 64 had a Mario reference...
so for the 1st game with the mario statue if you listen closely you can hear the song that plays when you grab the flag at the end of mario bros 1... also most of the early GB games have mario for anything... tetris has the bros as vs icons.. tennis hes ref, baseball same, even the nes has his huge career going on too in not just smb games...
