    Thanks for sharing! Just renewed my membership. Hope to support this channel for a long time to come :)
    BTW in my opinion you have the best generalist (I mean general astronomy, not just astrophotography) content on youtube. Thanks for doing this Chris!
    I see too many people going down the astrophotography rabbit hole and spending $$$$$ just to realize its not really for them (actually that might just be me :P ) Maybe better to just get a dob and enjoy the night sky.....and use the photography equipment readily available to share the experience

      Ah mate, such kind words! The hardcore side of astrophotography isn't something I naturally gravitate towards. I've never found myself wanting to do a deep dive into Pixinsight, or felt the urge to submit images to competitions. I'm happy just capturing stuff out there and sharing what should be a relaxing hobby with folks. One of the bests and constant things about astronomy is the community, and lets face it, chatting about astro is a big part of things with all the clouds about. Also, there are lots of different aspects to astronomy to explore. It's not a great model for building a channel but I do like to try different things. I'm glad to have you back aboard :)

      Hey Ryan, many thanks mate! glad you enjoyed the creative elements - they take a long time but are fun to do. The smart phone adapter will certainly be getting more use in future. I learnt the hard way regarding the music - one video I literally had 15-20 comments all complaining the music was too loud so I thought I'd give you the heads up to spare you that, just ramp the music up to emphasize certain points :)

    I bought a Celestron Digital Camera Adapter (CDCA) and it will hold a phone or even a small DSLR, but it is designed for a shoot and go camera. My phone adapter has a 1/4-20 bolt thread to put it on the big adapter. The neat thing about the CDCA is once you have an eyepiece and camera setup you can take the whole thing off and if you want to take a picture you can put it back on the focuser and are ready to go after focusing.
    Now I had the mirrors of my C6-N f-5 Newtonian re-aluminized and refigured to near perfect focus, no kidding, it is that good. When viewing Jupiter I put my Canon 150 on with a 25mm ED eyepiece (30x) and blew it up to 8x with the camera and it was still quite sharp. Only the seeing conditions and physics restricts what I can see. I cannot see the Horsehead Nebula without the proper filter and long exposure times for instance, but I didn't buy the telescope and soup it up for photography, I want to see things without messing around with figuring out photoshop, I'm a Luddite and Windows 10 pissed me off (I still use 7).
    Still the Adapter I bought is great for pictures with a phone or camera. If I want to see a full blown galaxy I find M81, Bode's Galaxy to SEE a full blown Grand Design Spiral Galaxy without long exposure times. Is it small? Yes, but I can actually view something 12 million light years away with my eyes. M51 and 101 as well are visible around the Big Dipper. Splitting stars is as easy as finding them like Mizar and Alcor, 2nd star in the Big Dipper's handle, you can see those with binoculars, but 100x will get you Mizar's other companions and globular star clusters are super cool to see. Some have a few thousand stars and others have many many more and cover light years in width. Right now if you live far enough South in the early morning you can see C80, the Omega Centauri Cluster (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omega_Centauri#/media/File:Omega_Centauri_by_ESO.jpg )with a million+ stars and 15 light years across. It is 3.9 magnitude beating out the Hercules Cluster at 5.8 or thereabouts.

    Thanks for eyepiece one, i used eyepieces that were not wide (they had small watch point if i can call it so) as soon as i got one thats wider, my phone is capturing atleast 5 times better images, without black circle, and with much more clear look at the deep sky objects!

    I have a pixel 7 pro and found that the infrared focus light kept reflecting on the lens. I could not find a software solution to turn it off so I just covered it up. I have since got , what I think are, good images. Highly recommend the NeXYZ adaptor.

    Hi Chris, I still use my phone and often an old 5mpxl Canon A95 power shot afocal with good wide plossl for some real decent moon shots through my old USA built 9.25 SCT. Off track I have just bought an AVX (a good one) by all accounts. Two things I'd like to ask you, normally I would use a good battery pack for power but have just treated myself to one of FLOs navadas will this be OK for the AVX as apparently the electronics in these can be a bit under rated, secondly would I be pushing the mount by carrying the 9.25 SCT, good vid, thanks Atb from Tom...

    • @Astrolavista
      @Astrolavista  Год назад +1

      I like it Tom, old school! I l have a soft spot for old digital cameras, you can pick them up cheap and they've got character :)
      I think the Nevada will be fine with the AVX, I ran an NEQ6 Pro from a Nevada in my first obsy back in the old house, never had a problem.
      The C9.25 will be fine with the AVX for observing and planetary/Lunar imaging but long exposure deep sky would be a challenge unless you slap Hyperstar on there - I've had AVX's in the past and they're solid, plus in my opinion nicely finished mounts for the price point. However they do have servo motors and bunch of gears which all need a tiny gaps to prevent binding - in other words AVX's do have a bit a backlash and periodic error which would work guiding quite hard. However you did say you had a gooden, so never say never.

    • @Astrolavista
      @Astrolavista  6 месяцев назад +1

      Exposure will vary depending on equipment used , but if Jupiter appears as a white blob then it's over exposed. I recommend dropping the exposure time or ISO, or both until you see the weather belts appear.

    Hey, great video! I'm going to try this out too, but I need a little help please ^^'.
    - So, I've got a Samsung A52 5G. It's got an automatic Night mode, and a Pro mode that gives me manual settings and a maximum 10s exposure. Which mode gives the best results according to you?
    - I'm currently using the bult-in program, but is there a third-party software good enough to do that? I've tried Camera FV-5, but it doesn't let me take high quality pictures with a high exposure, I can only do 2MP max even though the build-in software lets me reach 16MP (and 64MP in a certain mode). I've also tried a couple more """pro""" camera software, but they all have similar limitations.
    - How do you edit the pictures while making sure you don't alter the reality of the scene? By that, I mean : what settings on Photoshop can I use without changing the colors, for example? I've always wondered what were the true colors of nebulae, but it seems the human eye can't see them (I only see a blue-greyish light cloud), and I don't want an oversaturated result.
    - How long does it take you to get the right settings? For some reason I've struggled to set up my phone, lol.
    - I seem to get a lot of noise even with 16MP, 10s exposure. Is it normal, or am I doing something wrong?
    Sorry for all these questions, lol. I've got binoculars for my latest birthday, and I intend to make full use of it, but astrophotography is really complicated since we have to take pictures at night...

    • @Astrolavista
      @Astrolavista  Год назад +2

      Hi there! The image shown in this video was simply a shot taken in night Night Mode. This worked better than expected! However, you should get better results using manual settings - Taking a number of shots and stacking them together in (free to download) deep sky stacker. This will increase the signal and reduce the noise. Then process the stacked image using GIMP (GNU image manipulation program) again free to download.
      The only processing I did hear was to stretch the histogram and increase saturation a little, nothing too fancy. I have tutorials on deep sky stacker and GIMP on my channel. (Make sure you capture your images in RAW not Jpeg)
      Colour is subjective, if you see the Orion nebula through a telescope with your own eyes it will appear green/grey because our eyes are sensitive in the green, but on long exposure photographs emission nebulae appear pink/red. Try not to worry too much about the colour, as it's just different wavelengths of light and how our brains interpret it. The important thing is to not fake detail, not adding something that isn't there.
