I have to read the play for a class this semester but I have little patience for reading as I've grown and favor looking at a text being acted our read to me. So, thanks for keeping this up! I know it's been 7 years but it's helped me understand the play a lot better!
I've never seen the Eliz Taylor-Paul Newman film of my generation, but I can't imagine either star portraying the lead parts as well as in this production. Thanks very much for making it available!
1974 script version, ok, by Williams. Was 'bout to pan the dialog on the thought liberties was taken on the original play script. But learning that Tennessee updated the scrpt to comform to 1970s playwright aesthetics style, I stand seriously corrected! Ya gotta change with the changed times.....as time marches on!
Wow, really liked this act, and it clears a lot of things which i couldn’t catch while raading. Its jawdroping how you have meomorize all the dialogues. Holy crap!!! 🤣
Ammar, thank you for watching! And not to sound too "actory" but learning the lines took time, but it wasn't crazy hard. There's a rhythm to the dialogue and once you really understand Maggie's motivations...that helps!
just read act 1 now watching this in order to make sure i didnt miss anything. have to read the whole book and do 9 journal entrys due next week for first week of school
Hey, thanks for this. While the movies are accessible, a true-to-text play is not so easy to find. Plays are meant to be performed and seen, as I'm sure my HS English classes would agree.
@@KathrynParks Definitely! It's interesting to discuss how the form of each version can alter the perception we have of the characters, and from that how meaning is affected. We looked at the differing representations of characters in A Taste of Honey's script and film, and later how form changes meaning in our last Unit. So it's a nice continuation of our analytical work this semester 👍 I can get carried away with writing, and yes, the two iterations have soo many connections to make 😂
@@theblockbreakerpog That makes total sense! And certainly different directors and actors have their own interpretations too! Lots to consider and write about ;)
Like with all the classic 50's-60's film versions of Tennessee Williams plays, the gay angle was sadly excised from the Newman/Taylor version of this play, particularly with Cat on a Hot Tin Roof leaving it make a whole lot less sense. It's like having Romeo lusting for a Mustang when his family thinks he should get a Prius.
Good question! Time, repetition, always remembering your objective, and sometimes little tricks to help your mind connect the dots from one thing to the next.

Glad it was helpful to you! It's crazy to see how popular our little production has gotten

You very much get a “you’re welcome” for that nice comment! Thanks.
This is a wonderful example of modern theatre for my high school English classes, thank you!
Glad you found it helpful Chris!
I’m doing this for my monologue but only a minute of this play, I love it
The language is so poetic! Good luck with it :)
I really hate the way he says “Maggie’” 😂
It is really incredible how she memorised all that dialogue and performed it quite beautifully as well
Thank you for watching! Yes, it was a lot of work to memorize but there's a melody to the dialogue - almost like music - which helped.

Dynamite performance, Ms. Parks.
Why thank you Mr. Pelican
I got an A plus , thanks for making this act interesting, i think i wouldnt have grasp that much detail just by reading.
This is a high school production..acting, charisma,.
Stage..

Best of luck on the exams and I'm glad you've found our recording so helpful!

Doing two language subjects this year, for my final year, and we've got to study the film, live action play and script of COAHTR.
Awesome! I bet you'll find a number of differences between the film and stage play.

Paul Newman and Liz Taylor.❤❤❤

I wonder if they’d allow this play to be performed in Florida in 2023? You know…Brick and his internal struggles.
😩 I can’t help it…it’s not that she’s doing a bad job but Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman…I just like the original. It can’t be replicated.
time stamp for me:
36:00
pg.54 (on my book)
this is a cool dramatic impersonation... anybody knows if there is act 2 of the same play??
Thanks! You are not the first person to ask. I'll have to post it soon!
Oh, Please do... It would be really cool..:) Aand really great job acting as Maggie.. it was simply perfect :)
You got it! And thank you! :)
How do you learn so much dialogue by heart?
Good question! Time, repetition, always remembering your objective, and sometimes little tricks to help your mind connect the dots from one thing to the next.
Tennessee Williams is relatively easy. Try Shakespeare!

This monologue makes me want to drink. What a horrible person Maggie is.
Seems a bit of an ANGRY start to me. Makes Maggie less sympathetic.
