One county challenge but you're also trying to max out your renown perks. Instead of staying in the same county, you have to constantly seize land and give it away to family members who also get independence. Your goals are having as many descendants as possible with eugenics, conquering, moving capitals every millisecond so that you don't run out of counties in diplomacy range. It ends when you finally take the county you had in this video and make it the place for family get togethers.
Having played tall enough times while being under a liege, the computer LOVES researching Armilliary Sphere. ESPECIALLY when playing a culture completely landlocked, looking at you, Bavarians.
Should've made yourself head of faith and conquer and give away land to see how much you can spread your religion while not having vassals for more than 1 full month at a time. I'd want to see that. As like a more interesting endgoal
It’s a shame there aren’t non-conquest cassus bellis in CK3 like there are in EU4. I’m just imaging how much fun this could be if you built this insanely strong army, and then used it to bully everyone around you into constantly giving you War Reps and Transfer Trade Power and Money.
Alright. I want to see, the same thing, but with the WORST county in the game. So that the chalenge would have gone all the way around and will not need anymore replay. Ps : Really good video, loved the last one as much as this one !
c_yabrin, a landlocked single barony county with desert terrain is as far as I can determine the worst county in the game. It's in Arabia. I determined it to be the worst using CK3 Best Duchies, a table with all the duchies, and their individual baronies listed, as well as the CK3 wiki.
I often do this in the middle of a proper empire building run, where I will be the emperor of some mega wealthy empire, and pick up an underdeveloped but promising county. I will personally take care of it for a bit, building all the holdings to max, then revoke the castles (and temples if I have lay clergy) and give it to a child. It then becomes a mega-stable, very rich single county in which your dynasty can breed and send out marriages all over the world for more passive renown. It can be fun doing it in counties that have the +5 gold mines, such as in Mali (they are generally all open and undeveloped when you grab them), as by mid game a single county can be pumping out like 60 gold.
I've started watching your CK3 vids and I'm really enjoying them. I'm just begging you for one thing. mottes isn't "moats". motte rhymes with hot. it's the land a castle is built on, not the water around the castle. ty. :) (I really do like your vids! That's just... starting to get to me.)
Part of the fun for me of watching Zieley videos consists in noticing the terms he gets wrong. I forget which video it was, but he called "Manorialism" so many different things like "Menalorialism"; "Melorialism"; and "Melanorialism." I wanted to punch a wall lol.
I’m not sure if someone else has said this yet but at 30:40 you bemoan your character not having gone down the right tree. Just reminding you that for a cost of stress you can hit the reset perks button to refund the perks in that group to whatever you want
I was happy watching the other video where you created the Kingdom of Poland. Now I am happy watching this attempt at a single county playthrough. I just got into CK3 and your videos are great!
Love the second attempt - wouldn't mind a third round :D Btw, did you know there is a coffin dance mod, that is playing the medival themed coffin dance version when a character dies? No? Now you do!
I think you’re overthinking the “cheating” part of this. As long as you explain it and your actions don’t break the spirit of the challenge. I mostly watch this because I enjoy seeing how ridiculously op you make “unfavourable” scenarios
Exactly, the challenge starts once the initial criteria is met, it’s like doing a game with a scripted section that you can’t change, you technically broke the challenge but you had no choice.
If you do this again, consider forming the Kingdom of Mann and the Isles as a norse asatru character! The decision to elevate the kingdom of mann and the isles gives you a stupid number of building slots although you only have 2 baronies in the county. Though I think you're entitled to be a 1 county king or emperor. It's much more diverse gameplay ^^
If you focus on developing your county, you should always befriend your steward. Befriending your councillors increases their efficiency at their tasks, scaling with their stats. Try to have the best possible steward you can, because unlike flat development increases, the councillor task to increase development gets diminishing returns depending on your innovations, but % development modifiers get applied afterwards, so every single stat from your steward matters. In your case, you could train a daughter to have high stewardship and marry her matrilineal to an excellent steward and then granting him the city in your county, so he can gain stats through the marriage.
Great video! I think the amount of this video that was at 5x speed shows that the last video was probably the more entertaining definition of "one county challenge," but you do what you have to to please the purists. I think if you used the outliner for your holdings when constructing buildings it might save you a few clicks, or at least make it easier to keep track of where you are and aren't building already.
Hooray for Madurai! I started one of my longest games there (those "Become the Chakravarti" and "Steward of the Great River" decisions are great), and yeah, it's fantastic land alright.
You do know you can reset your skill tree and redistribute your skill points, also great vid. It gave me a few ideas to play and do. I'm going to varangian adventure all the way to this county, create custom kingdom, culture and faith. Have a 1 county kingdom and have some fun with the royal court
Love your videos man. Watched all of them on the weekend and decided to sub. Are you planning to do videos on Royal Court? Heard you could you make some insane meta culture + reform religion to basically construct and upgrade buildings dirt cheap.
Hey man, you are my favorite Crusader Kings content creator right now. Don't listen to the haters do what you want what you're doing is great. I would love to see a continuation of the Poland file, if you want to. I literally watched all your videos in like two days. Keep it up.
I done similar challenge although I didn't know it was a challenge before that. I created a Roman, had county of Genoa and went through the techs rather quickly plus made a lot of money and then I created Roman Empire, was owning all Mediterranean coast and all France, Central Europe and part of East Europe. And then with new ruler faction was created against me which was so strong that even with my whole army and getting all mercenaries that I could hire (because was filthy rich) they still had bigger army and my Empire split to tiny fractions. But I didn't care, got the achievement and also let the game run till the last date for another achievement. :)
Ngl, i just watched the other vid and my reaction when you took over Moravia was “okay… when does he give it away?”, did feel like a misleading description, but still a fun video
I think the one county challenge is much more viable with royal courts. Just create a divergent culture, and be the culture head of a one county culture
This was fantastic mate, would love to see you do this with a small Armenian Christian County, specifically the county of Suenik, only has 3 barony's, is surrounded by a hostile Muslim juggernaut and independent the whole way through, its my go to impossible challenge. Thanks again for the great content
You can do better. Now play an isolated country! Never contact anyone... the only people your heirs can marry is their sisters, don't question where the mother comes from.
Are castles really better than cities? I know you can't hold them directly but I'm my experience they still make you more gold, no? Or is that wrong? Or do you get more levies from castles?
You always make the most gold holding a holding yourself. The only types of holdings you can hold yourself (as feudal) are castles, and churches with lay clergy. You can not hold cities as a feudal ruler. In terms of vassals, theocratic vassals grant the most taxes depending on your faith. If your holdings are leased to your realm priest, then you can earn up to 50% of the taxes (which is less than if you were to hold the holdings yourself, but still). Republic vassals don't give you as much tax, so in terms of money church vassals, or holdings you can hold yourself are best. The only advantage with cities is that they help you gain more development. Also, in terms of castles vs. churches, churches generate a tiny bit more gold (from the holding itself), and have access to one extra money generating building.
20:10 I am not sure but I think if you had conquered all of your neighbors and released all of their lands as fellow counties, you could have become the culture head from the beginning.
When you are a count/duch, and you only hold one county, it's possible that rebellions don't happen. When I was playing as Visby I would incure quite severe penalities to popular opinion, and there was never a revolt.
I was thinking madurai in the first challenge video. That country was the bar from which I built an empire that controlled literally about 1/3 the entire map, including the middle east and Italy. I wonder what an island challenge could look like. Start on the best 1 county unconnected island (or maybe even up to 2 or 3 county Island), see how big you can get without holding any more territory beyond a peace treaty being signed. Cool thing is you could still get a kingdom or empire title if you can game a larger landmass to be all split up then declare and win multiple wars all at once. Also, I bet intrigue would be an ideal focus. The other focuses multiply a base that scales with realm size, but being better at murdering people in their sleep is entirely independent of realm size, so would optically be connotatively more valuable for a realm that will always be small. Also, if you get just one thing from stewardship, you can manufacture hooks, turn them in to hold, and turn that in to a huge Merc army any time you need it.
A fun idea maybe that let's say 3-4 people pick up county only challenge, and you compete on who will become the best one. Either with the limitation of this video or not ;).
Interesting, but since your liege was your dynasty head what if you stayed and then used your military power to expand the domain of your dynasty? Then just refuse any extra titles or pass them to your non primary heirs so your primary heir always holds just the 1 county.
I did think it wasn't really a one county challenge but also I did not care you showed how easier it would have been to continue I think also having to manage and control vassals was a added challenge
maybe you can do the challenge again once Royal Court drops and you can create divergent cultures. Then you would be the head of your culture right? You'd be able to focus on learning rather than stewardship when you're good on money, and rush tech as well as development.
Pronounced M-AUGHT-S not M-OAT-S. Mottes are raised areas with a bailey (Walled courtyard) on it. Moats, on the other hand, are big ditches, usually filled with water, surrounding a castle.
Alt version of this I'm playing. Start in Samara in 1066. Convert to local culture (Assyrian) then take Baghdad (from liege, so it's a bit fiddly and takes some time). Give away Samara to a non-Assyrian. Convert Baghdad to Assyrian. You'll have one less barony than this play-through, but you get to be culture head and have the Hall of Wisdom as compensation.
Now that Royal Court is out you can probably redo this and form your own culture which would fix most of the issues. Though I do think dynasty spam is necessary for making this fun.
One we were already established I didn't feel like we needed to stress about it (👀) But it is probably something I should do more of, I'll try to remember this!
Not being your own culture head, and not having a one county culture that feeds of your single county's high development is a huge handicap. You could have been extremely powerful in a short time with that. Would have been rad if you could have converted your kid to a culture that didn't exist on the map, or that was completely oppressed. You did decide to go with one of the strongest counties in the game, rather than something more "balanced". Still, a good demonstration of building tall, although, there wasn't much "challange" in this one county challenge. A real challenge would be something like c_yabrin, a single barony county with desert terrain that is landlocked. Curious what you could do with that county. Not sure what you can really do as a vassal of the Kingdom of Arabia, so maybe use the setting where everyone starts as a count.
I'll do you one better, play as a Jew and hold Jerusalem I don't own CK3 because I don't want to spend 1000$ to get a complete package, but it's quite a fun challenge in CK2
