There were so many talented artists in the Velvet contest, it must have been DIFFICULT to choose the winner. Maybe for an Easter Egg in an episode of RWBY, it would show Velvet's room with her closet full of costume favorites.
This is the numero uno reason why I want to make my own animation-show-thingy. Just the idea of making a project with your friends and colleagues and just meeting new people is just beautiful
That's a great goal. In fact, it's mine too. Just 2 more years until college, and I plan on using that time to research the best animation colleges, and mastering 3D design and animation as best as I can on my own. If you haven't already, download Blender. It's a completely free 3D design, animation, and game creation engine, and what many professionals use for small projects. Master it, then maybe buy more high end software that will let you make amazing things
People are so critical of the animation like its a big anime firm that has a number of series under its belt and its not. This is the first as a team. Monty done other stuff but solo. Give it time past they first 2 season and then see if it reaches your high ass standards.
also it's done by a web studio that doesn't have a massive budget they can dump on it like most anime studios. Sorry but when they are releasing their content basically for free (only one ad before the video) you aren't going to get 20 minutes of high budget studio level animation.
Evan Olds People werent asking for 20 minutes of High budget animation, but when you start a series with a solid 10 minute web animation. You should expect some flack when your episodes to follow are 2 - 4 minutes long. Dont get me wrong I liked the series, but the fact that one episode would just be Character exposition because of the fact the episodes were so short made me not come back every week. I just watched the whole thing at the end.

Why is everyone so upset with RWBY Volume 1? I for one love the story and the connection between the characters its not all about the fighting and killing. Not to mention this anime has so much potential!
Because the show was so different from the trailer The trailer made it look like a cool anime with a lot of action, what we got was a poor anime full of cliche's and nonsense It's funny how Monty went on the RT podcast and said how he didn't want to do a lot of anime cliche's in RWBY and then when it came out it was full of them
Agreed that the trailers were action packed but that doesn't matter, They were trailers (A video or two to draw us in) It's the anime you need to judge. Volume 1 itself was a intro to The story, The characters and There connections
I was just a tad disappointed too, but the crew made a good point that volume 1 was to get character development. So consider it a prologue for the actual series. Like an episode 0.

Yes, I agree with the haters in that the first season of this show left much to be desired. It had a pretty generic plot, underdeveloped characters, and choppy animation at times. But people need to also remember that this is the first time Rooster Teeth has done a show like this, and if you look at the quality change that Red vs Blue has gone through over the years, then you will see that Rooster Teeth specializes in improving their work as they get more comfortable making it. So I'm going to give this show a bit more time before I make a final decision on whether I think it's good or bad.
raem94 I agree that the comedy and lasting appeal was always present for RvB, but I noticed that the plot began to be more interesting around season 4 or so, which is what I hope will happen with RWBY. All I know is that the people working on RWBY love it, and they put their all into it, so hopefully that translates into improvements for the show overall.

I noticed Monty referred to Caiti as a community member. Now, I could be wrong, but I'm assuming "community member" means "fan". We all know Caiti's more than just a fan; she's Jack's wife. That being said, I honestly hope that community member Arnold, a.k.a. MurderOfBirds, gets to play a role on the show someday.
Any idea on what it would be called? I'm very much wanting one like that! Mainly as I like how the zipper is to the side instead of the middle, just not sure what you'd call it.
I love Caiti she is a really cool girl and all but there is something annoying me when they keep saying someone from the community and miss out the fact that she is friends with all of the staff of RT and is married to one of them. That just makes it seem a little less about the community and more of just asking a friend to do it to me. But she did a good job with the voice acting.

im not a big fan of that final costume for the bunny chick, its a neat idea, but the colors dont really seem to suit her for some reason. perhaps its the red from before
Yeah, I have to agree, Jake. Light blue doesn't work for me either. She'd look better in either brown or crimson. And those steampunk designs I think would fit well with her voice actress' British accent too. Maybe the armour could be crimson and she could hide it with a long brown trench coat so she could just whip it off for combat.
Hm, the design chosen for Velvet.....interesting to say the least. I would have preferred something a bit more like her color scheme, and something about the choice of sky blue and gold with her brown seems a bit....off. But nevertheless, I'm still excited for RWBY Volume 2 and to see what she can do on the battlefield.
They should release an art book with all of those submissions, and even include all of the concept art from Volume 1, maybe as a free thing for pre-ordering the next DVD/Blu-Ray when it comes out.

Masterash01 I'm not upset about her being cast as a character. At this point it just feels wrong to call her just "a community member" considering her current "connection" to the cast of RT. I do understand that this might have been filmed quite a bit before their marriage but it anyway makes one wonder if they knew about it coming or not. Hello fellow RWBY fans. My name is Hawks and I want to ask all of you a question. So I've been thinking that if any gaming company were to try to make a RWBY game it should be Telltale games. Now here's my reason why I think this. Let's think about it, most if not all of their games are decisions base games such as The Walking Dead and The Wolfs Among Us which are both good game. Also with that said when you are playing the game you could make your character a nice, happy, fun person such as Ruby, Jaune, Nora, and just about every one else or you could make your character a dark, mean, cruel person such as Cardin and his team. In the end it's all up to you. So with that said I want to hear what you, da fans have to say. Do you think is a cool/good idea? Or do you think it's a bad idea? Leave a like for yes or a dislike for no and also leave your reason why you think what you think. With that said thank yoy for your time. :D
Monty Oum animation style instantly makes me think of Platinum Games for the action though. No other dev quite manages to get the same level of over-the-top action that Monty puts in his animations. And really, most of the fights in the show is not so much teams fighting together on the same screen, but focusing on one character at a time. Switching between characters mid-combat as the various story elements progresses strikes me as pretty cool, and gives the game a ton of variation.
If they were to make a RWBY game, I would want it to be like Phantasy Star. It's essentially an MMO but more of a beatem' up. But you only see other players when you're in an open lobby where you can accept missions. You can take up to 5 other players with you on missions where you kill monsters, complete objectives and find rare items and weapons. Then you have your own room which you can customize and such. If you guys never heard of Phantasy Star Universe, or PSO2 Check them out. It's one of my most favorite franchise.
I think if a RWBY game came out, it should be in the fashion of something like a fighter. The story is great and I like it very much, but I feel that a focus on combat is better, since it's very quick and flashy in the series. You could toss in random things like the grim as well. Powerstone 2 for example slit its levels in two sections with an event section (such as a mid-air fight or a Temple of Doom run). So items, grim, and other parts of RWBY could be integrated this way as well. Just my thoughts.
I actually didn't watch RWBY until yesterday, I ended up enjoying it quite a lot although it was jarring hearing voices like Ryan's pop up when I know it so well. These production diaries will be great because I feel like I need to see the backstage stuff in order to more appreciate what goes into the show and forgive the few production bits that bothered me.
Thank you Monty for RWBY. It's my favorite Anime, and I can't wait to see more... Even though you're gone, i'll keep watching it. The show wont be the same without you.

Hey RoosterTeeth, you guys are awesome. I love RWBY, and i can only hope that the show gets bigger and better as you keep working on it. There are a few critiques i kinda want to point out to see if you can improve them as you produce them. In terms of story, the weak links of the cast are most of the side characters like Pyrrrha, Nora, and Ren since we still haven't seen their full backstory within the first volume. And the weakest link in the story is one of the main heroes, Yang, cause really, we know nothing about her. I mean, we know that she is Ruby's sister and that she has an exciting attitude, but that's kinda it, we know nothing else. Ruby, Weiss and Blake had more story behind them than Yang and I only hope you can let in on their background during the first few episodes of Volume 2. Good luck guys
Don't worry yourself, dude. I do this with just about everything I watch. I watch almost everything twice. Once to see and enjoy it, another to imagine myself as a character in it and essentially re-making it to have myself as a minor addition to it. Pretty sure the one who needs a life here is me.

Spoilers for any new fans: I feel like when Monty said Velvet's alternative costume could be something for another character I feel like he meant Summer because that outfit looks kind of like Summer's from Volume 9... Kind of.
The main issue with that is that they were stuck with how they did Red Vs Blue. The episodes for RvB were around four to seven or so minutes long. The issue was that RvB is mainly a comedy series while RWBY is more action/plot related.

Reason 2 It does not include enough of the main plot points, While I know volume 2 isnt out, I can guarantee Ruby won't be the only one taking them on. Reason 3 Ruby isn't even using proper scythe etiquette Even compared too her show fighting style. All and All I hate the poster.
As much as I agree that there should be a color change at least, there won't be. That was the whole point of the contest, to decide on a fan-made outfit that would be in the show. I'm sure as an artist of sorts, Monty would respect another person's work unless they gave him permission to change anything.
I honestly loved having this insight into RWBY and how the second volume is coming along. Seeing Monty Oum and the others talk about his creation, and the interaction with the fans definently makes me an even bigger fan of Roosterteeth :)
+Mr. Dapper See, I did too. I really feel like it suits her. She comes off as very background. Speaking from experience, there is a certain kind of personality that stands out when something is happening near them, who others enjoy, but is usually quiet and doesn't make a big splash most of the time. They tend to be the sort of person who find out later was influential in some way. Sort of how blake had a history her team knew nothing about. People with this personality type are social chimeras. They blend in and out depending on how active they are and often dress simply. The chosen outfit makes sense for the character. It hints at more without saying a whole lot on it's own.

Masterash01 I'm not upset about her being cast as a character. At this point it just feels wrong to call her just "a community member" considering her current "connection" to the cast of RT.
I do understand that this might have been filmed quite a bit before their marriage but it anyway makes one wonder if they knew about it coming or not. If they didn't, I can understand her being called that but if they did, like I said, it just feels wrong looking back at it.

Hello fellow RWBY fans. My name is Hawks and I want to ask all of you a question. So I've been thinking that if any gaming company were to try to make a RWBY game it should be Telltale games. Now here's my reason why I think this. Let's think about it, most if not all of their games are decisions base games such as The Walking Dead and The Wolfs Among Us which are both good game. Also with that said when you are playing the game you could make your character a nice, happy, fun person such as Ruby, Jaune, Nora, and just about every one else or you could make your character a dark, mean, cruel person such as Cardin and his team. In the end it's all up to you. So with that said I want to hear what you, da fans have to say. Do you think is a cool/good idea? Or do you think it's a bad idea? Leave a like for yes or a dislike for no and also leave your reason why you think what you think. With that said thank yoy for your time. :D
I think instead of a narrative game, RWBY would do better as an RPG, considering all the different kinds of weapons, armor, abilities, etc.
Monty Oum animation style instantly makes me think of Platinum Games for the action though. No other dev quite manages to get the same level of over-the-top action that Monty puts in his animations. And really, most of the fights in the show is not so much teams fighting together on the same screen, but focusing on one character at a time. Switching between characters mid-combat as the various story elements progresses strikes me as pretty cool, and gives the game a ton of variation.
If they were to make a RWBY game, I would want it to be like Phantasy Star. It's essentially an MMO but more of a beatem' up. But you only see other players when you're in an open lobby where you can accept missions. You can take up to 5 other players with you on missions where you kill monsters, complete objectives and find rare items and weapons. Then you have your own room which you can customize and such. If you guys never heard of Phantasy Star Universe, or PSO2 Check them out. It's one of my most favorite franchise.
I think if a RWBY game came out, it should be in the fashion of something like a fighter. The story is great and I like it very much, but I feel that a focus on combat is better, since it's very quick and flashy in the series. You could toss in random things like the grim as well. Powerstone 2 for example slit its levels in two sections with an event section (such as a mid-air fight or a Temple of Doom run). So items, grim, and other parts of RWBY could be integrated this way as well. Just my thoughts.
It'd be cool if there was a combat game of RWBY, like street fighter or something. I don't really have any valid reasons apart from it'd be cool :3

I actually didn't watch RWBY until yesterday, I ended up enjoying it quite a lot although it was jarring hearing voices like Ryan's pop up when I know it so well.
These production diaries will be great because I feel like I need to see the backstage stuff in order to more appreciate what goes into the show and forgive the few production bits that bothered me.
Thank you Monty for RWBY. It's my favorite Anime, and I can't wait to see more... Even though you're gone, i'll keep watching it. The show wont be the same without you.

Hey RoosterTeeth, you guys are awesome. I love RWBY, and i can only hope that the show gets bigger and better as you keep working on it. There are a few critiques i kinda want to point out to see if you can improve them as you produce them. In terms of story, the weak links of the cast are most of the side characters like Pyrrrha, Nora, and Ren since we still haven't seen their full backstory within the first volume. And the weakest link in the story is one of the main heroes, Yang, cause really, we know nothing about her. I mean, we know that she is Ruby's sister and that she has an exciting attitude, but that's kinda it, we know nothing else. Ruby, Weiss and Blake had more story behind them than Yang and I only hope you can let in on their background during the first few episodes of Volume 2. Good luck guys

Don't worry yourself, dude. I do this with just about everything I watch. I watch almost everything twice. Once to see and enjoy it, another to imagine myself as a character in it and essentially re-making it to have myself as a minor addition to it.

The only thing I didn't like about RWBY was that the episodes were too short. It was like watching a movie 4 minutes a week.
Which they have fixed for Volume 2..every episode will be at least 12 minutes.

The main issue with that is that they were stuck with how they did Red Vs Blue. The episodes for RvB were around four to seven or so minutes long. The issue was that RvB is mainly a comedy series while RWBY is more action/plot related.
This is a lot more interesting than I thought it would be. It's pretty cool to see some of the inner workings in the production of RWBY.

Why would you want it. It sucks. Very disappointing. Reason 1. It's not even the art style of RWBY. Reason 2 It does not include enough of the main plot points, While I know volume 2 isnt out, I can guarantee Ruby won't be the only one taking them on. Reason 3 Ruby isn't even using proper scythe etiquette Even compared too her show fighting style. All and All I hate the poster.
What makes RWBY so great is that even though a lot of it I've already seen before in some other show book or movie- I still really like it!
I'm not sure how I feel about the Velvet's outfit... It's okay I guess, but I don't like the color, I hope they change it.
As much as I agree that there should be a color change at least, there won't be. That was the whole point of the contest, to decide on a fan-made outfit that would be in the show. I'm sure as an artist of sorts, Monty would respect another person's work unless they gave him permission to change anything.

I honestly loved having this insight into RWBY and how the second volume is coming along. Seeing Monty Oum and the others talk about his creation, and the interaction with the fans definently makes me an even bigger fan of Roosterteeth :)

See, I did too. I really feel like it suits her. She comes off as very background. Speaking from experience, there is a certain kind of personality that stands out when something is happening near them, who others enjoy, but is usually quiet and doesn't make a big splash most of the time.
They tend to be the sort of person who find out later was influential in some way. Sort of how blake had a history her team knew nothing about. People with this personality type are social chimeras. They blend in and out depending on how active they are and often dress simply.
The chosen outfit makes sense for the character. It hints at more without saying a whole lot on it's own.
7:37 looks very similar to the velvet character design it's nice knowing the fans were able to influence the creation process
