    He is another of the most overlooked country artists that ever lived. This is what country music sounds like.

    Jerry Jeff chose his path long ago, Not a path to conform to a certain style of music that would make him very rich and not very happy. But to play music that appealed his heart and soul. And of course he never met a party he didn't like. I thank him for the life he chose. And the music he has shared with me and all his fans.

      And a huge hit in 68 that allowed him to have a safety blanket or in some ways "fuck you" money to say I'm not whoring myself to the record companies. Mr. Bojangles gave him some independence from outside forces, so to speak. I loved the guy and saw him countless times all over Texas. He is gone, but his music lives on.

      Money isnt everything.....and tho he did well for himself it seems some "bigger power" supposed friends of him low browed him. Very sad...and maybe it was jealousy. Non the less... one of my all time favorite singers and human. Great entertainer!!!!!

    Huge fan of JJW from Canada. Saw him live in Punta Gorda FL, Gruene Hall in New Braunfels TX and Oneonta NY. Great memories. I discovered him when a friend played an album of his when I was 20 years old. RIP Jerry Jeff

    He is the quintessential Drifter, the sad eyed balladeer in the barroom of life, he is a storyteller a singer and a grand imaginer...he is the one and only Jerry Jeff.

    I am from Liverpool and have been brought up on rock music in the Uk but have got to say Jerry Jeff is a great artist and musician . I’ve listened to him since the mid 70’s and he’s the only country musician I have ever got into . Some great tunes 😂🍺😂

    Jerry Jeff had a charm in his voice, a baritone for the ages. His songs ranged from early 60's Greenwich Village cafes
    Folk music, to the ramblin' life(Driftin' Way Of Life), to
    story telling folklore(Mr Bojangles & LA Freeway), & Country music (The Pickup Truck Song & Ramblin Scramblin)to name a small few. He is & was a National Treasure.

    This guy is one of my favourites..he and his band sound as good live as recorded...he wrote 'mr Bojangles' and is mentioned in the words of 'Luckenbach Texas'.....a true Americon icon....a great singer and songwriter....it appears that the band have stayed together for years....which speaks volumes.....thanks for posting this...from England.

    The first line of this song nailed me to the floor. It was on the flip side of a band on a tape a friend had made me. I tracked him down and found out who it was. The love affair had started. And continues after 20 years now. I knew nothing about him and my friend was only glad to feed me. I just put the wrong side of a tape on and it really changed my life. This is just amazing to see, one good thing about the computer age!

    I agree. The polished pretty boys (and girls), can't hold a candle ~ Why? Because JJW has lived his songs, and nothing can replace, or top, or equal singing from the heart, and a straight-up spirit. Long live Jerry Jeff Walker!

    jerry jeff walker has a certain way of singing that only he can give some songs justice like the ones about bums and drunks and what not. i used to think his version of desperados waiting for a train was his best one and still do for sentimental reasons, but this one is just about equal.

    I just found out about Jerry Jeff Walker, and I've spent the last hour saying, 'Wait...he's the guy that wrote "Mr. Bojangles"...AND "L.A. Freeway"...AND "I Feel Like Hank Williams"...AND "Desperadoes"?' What a genius How have I never heard of him?

    • @neildavies3624
      @neildavies3624 3 года назад +2

      Yes, we mourn the great Jerry Jeff. But, David, JJ didn't write LA Freeway or Desperados waiting for a train. Those Texas gems belong to Guy Clark. And Chris Wall wrote I feel like Hank Williams tonight. But check out Hill Country Rain....there's a JJ tune that captured the essence of the Central Tx music scene in the 70's.

    This is actually a Chris Wall song covered by Good Ole Jacky Jack Doubletrouble (anyone else here old enough to remember that nickname?) And the best Desperadoes is the Outlaw allstars version from David Letterman with Nancy Griffith, Rodney and Jimmy Dale's harmony is ethereal.
