    I just put Auxbeam LEDs in my '92 Mustang in the stock housings. Dramatic difference, sharp cutoff, doesn't blind oncoming drivers. Very happy with these. The cheap LEDs throw light everywhere, the difference between cheap and expensive is the light pattern.

    Those may be 8,000 lumens, but you need a light meter to be sure.
    A common problem some overlook is that it’s the YELLOW in white light that helps us see at night. Colored bulbs that mimic HID lights are filtering out the yellow which means you need a lot more lumens to see the same as halogen bulbs produce.
    LEDs are designed to give off a specific color temperature which might work against the desired result. The bulb is brighter but less effective at night.
    HIDs get around this by putting out pure white light. Even if it looks blue, the yellow content is there and in greater amounts.
    So the test isn’t lumens unless the color temperature of a bulb matches OEM spec. Then you’ll see the difference. The only exception (from my research) is to go HID.

    Going by efficacy numbers and pitting them against 1: a comparible gas discharge lamp (90 watt low pressure sodium) and 2: the current industry maximum for an LED chip and a 55w halogen we get some interesting results.
    The stated luminous flux of these lamps is 8000 lumens. If we divide that by the advertised 50 watts, that's 160 lumens per watt.
    This puts it 10 lumens per watt higher than a 90 watt low pressure sodium lamp if we believe the figures (13,500 lumens with a 150 lumen per watt efficacy)
    Now for the important bit: The high end LED industry...
    The absolute best of the best LED technologies struggle to muster 100 lumens per watt. this is still a VERY impressive efficacy figure but I HIGHLY doubt that the makers of the LED headlamps in the video here are using that technology. it's likely a much cheaper, lower efficacy LED array. I'd say around 60-80 lumens per watt, which would give us a luminous flux at peak power of 3,000 to 4,000 lumens peak output. Comparable numbers to a 55w Xenon kit which is only a few hundred lumens brighter.
    But that's just going by the rating on the seller's page. The fact these lamps weren't even as bright as a 55w halogen tells me that they're likely 20 or 30w modules, which if we're generous here and say they are 30w, have an 80 lumen per watt efficacy only put out 2400 lumens. that's right on par with a decent 55w halogen which is generally around the 35-45 lumens per watt range and put out around 2500 or so lumens!

      Yumseen Australia has achieved 106.6lm/w

    • @TheSoxmania
      @TheSoxmania 6 лет назад +1

      True. Even some cheaper LED modules can achieve as high as 90 but to get 100-120 LPW requires a decent quality LED die and very little phosphor. It's why those fancy dancy new LED street lights (which at this time are complete shite) have poor colour rendering and have a terrible colour to them. They achieve up to 115 lumens per watt but at the cost of having a weird greenish blue tint to them that makes everything lit by them look dead. if you added more phosphor to the LEDs then you get a warmer colour temperature, using a decent phosphor blend also increases the colour rendering *BUT* it also trashes the efficacy. You'll be closer to 90 or 80 lumens per watt for a warmer colour temp/high CRI LED, which isn't hard to beat with a 150w high pressure sodium or ceramic metal halide lamp as they can have up to 115 lumen per watt efficacies.

    I installed four of these beamtech leds bulbs. Two headlights and two fog lights, together they put out a sufficient amount of light and make my vehicle look much nicer then the stock halogen bulbs. If you have fog lights i would add them to get more brightness.

    I had purchased these led’s before I seen your Video. They were for a 2007 Pontiac G6 I Purchased them because one of the headlights blew out. The reason I purchased them was because a reliable RUclips channel That reviews only LED headlights stated that they were about 70% brighter than the standard halogen bulb. While I do not think they’re 70% brighter but there is somewhat of a difference. They do have a good Beam pattern as compared to a lot of LED headlights even the more expensive ones have unusable beam pattern . I am happy with my lights no they are not super bright 300 times Helen turn or anything like that but they are brighter color tone is good they were cheap and they were true plug and play headlights. And they will last a lot longer than halogen so for $35 I am happy with my purchase.

    A little plastic polish on the clear lens will help your beam. LED bulbs are brighter, but you need to check the wattage and number of led emitters. I bought 3x bright bulbs with three emitters. They have cooling fans but no big control box like some others. They are very bright!

  • @rosenrusev8656
    @rosenrusev8656 6 лет назад +3

    In fact there is a difference in life span. To begin with the halogen - they have roughly 400-500 hours of live. On the other hand the LED have ~10 000 hours of life. The other thing is the wave length of the light coming out. In my personal opinion the LED looks better to the eye and is more effective on the road even if the lighted area is the same, there are definitely more Lumens per in^2.

    • @JosephBerger_1
      @JosephBerger_1  6 лет назад +1

      in LEDs it's usually the driver that fails before the diode. Cheap drivers have nowhere near the lifespan of the LEDs themselves. Mine are still ok though.

    Hi,
    After installation do a aim adjustment where you need to aim the two lights for greater visibility.
    When choosing led choose from a well know brand would help a lot. 8000 lumens should be totally enough even high end new cars get 4000 lumens bulbs but they so good.
    Pls pay attention to the adjustments on light height and stuff because if proper alignment isn't done light gets diffraction and some dark spots will be created. If that's don't work light should be not to standards.
    Hope this helps. :)

  • @dufonrafal
    @dufonrafal 6 лет назад +17

    Here’s what you should do:
    1- cleaning the headlight
    2- aiming them, they seem a bit low, and according to the IIHS: “Poor headlight performance […] is often due to poor headlight aiming at the factory.”
    3- try some high end halogen bulbs. And be aware that halogen bulbs loose performance gradually. So even if thy work, you might only have half the performances.

    • @stinkycheese804
      @stinkycheese804 6 лет назад +1

      NO! Do not aim your LED headlights higher. The problem is already that an excessive amount of light shines to the sides instead of straight ahead so aiming them higher causes them to blind other drivers.

    • @dufonrafal
      @dufonrafal 6 лет назад

      Stinky Cheese headlights should be aimed according to factory specs.
      If your aftermarket led bulbs spread too much lights were it’s not supposed to, don’t use them.
      I personally don’t like xenon or LED in halogen reflectors.

    Very good video. Straight to the point and I completely agree, theres no difference. People have this conception that LEDs are brigher than halogen because they are a different color temperature. Instead of yellowish light they are blue-ish light. And it leads them to think it's brighter. In MOST cases, its not. They are more efficient,and but generally not much brighter.
    Human eyes are used to halogen color temps. The sun is also a similar color temperature and that's why. I wish some people would understand that the higher (blue) color temperature of LEDs is actually straining your eyes. I stick with my halogens.

    • @JosephBerger_1
      @JosephBerger_1  6 лет назад +3

      Completely agree! There are two benefits to LEDs however - lifespan (hopefully, unless the driver fails) and the peripheral illumination, at least in my case.

      You are just as much of a parrot as those people. The issue is DESIGN, not output. Even real shitty LED bulbs output as much as halogen. The issue is design. Well engineered LED bulbs will curb stomp halogen and even best HID. Look for comprehensive reviews. Morimoto and GTR lighting kits will shit on stock halogen.

  • @firestonevlogs6361

    The problem may come from 8000 lumens being the total brightness, each bulb is advertised 4000 lumens. Another user, @TheSOXMania did put some good calculations in their comment.
    I won’t question anything said though, as I haven’t had tried these bulbs myself. I purchased some and I’ll insert my input later.

  • @rokujones

    The only advantage to LED headlights is their longevity. There are issues with flickering or them being too bright with some models, I've read online. It all depends on the build quality of the LED bulb and also the car in question, I guess. However, in about 5 to 10 years, LED headlights will be the standard and norm and old halogens will be the dinosaur relic.

    Guess the only benefit would be about 50 watts in savings (or about 10% of 1HP) that the alternator doesn't have to do work for and potentially a light you won't have to change for a long long time. I'm also going to guess that's about 1/4 to 1/2 MPG cruising at 45mph, giving that you are using from 10hp to 20hp to sustain the speed. I was fast and loose with the math lol.

    Theres one other big advantage to going LED over halogen-
    The running hours.
    Almost *all* of my driving in my vehicle is at night- And when most halogen bulbs are rated for 500-1000 running hours, it actually doesnt take that long to go through them. LED lights will (normally) last dozens of times longer than halogen- and are worth it from that perspective alone to me.

    Never believe these high lumen claims from cheap led kits. Really? 8k lumens for $30? A little ridiculous if you ask me.
    A good HID kit is still the way to go. Especially one from morimoto at the Retrofit source. Even better when you do a proper projector retrofit.
    Leds still don’t have the full 360 degree all around light output such as halogens and hids which can lead to a poor light pattern, cutoff and hotspot for down road visibility.
    My 2 cents. You get what you pay for when it comes to lighting.

    Keep in mind that the LED "bulb" section produces little or no heat compared to the halogen or incandescent bulbs. In colder climates that means your headlights may end up snowing or icing over, be prepared to get out with a snowbrush from time to time to clear them off.

    • @addysoftware

      No, there are 2 differences: the LED chips are getting hot and they need to dissipate the heat to not get beyond 85 celsius (it shorten the lifespan drastically); but the halogen goes to more than 300 celsius! The LED light itself contain no heat, actually no INFRARED, only visible light; which in itself has some heating power but very little (if the chip is for example 20W, ONLY about 5W will be radiated in the front as light, and the rest of 15W will go backwards to the heatsink)

    Those LED chips produce 250 lumens each. At most. It means each bulb makes not more than 1250 lumens. 4000 lumens is bullshit.

  • @richu27
    @richu27 6 лет назад +2

    If the maximum recommend power rating is 55W then you should a LED which uses 50-55W per bulb. That can provide an output of 6000-8000lumens per bulb. I have done few upgrades for my car and friend's cars all with projector style housing and the upgrade was very much worth it.

    Don't mean to turn anyone down here but if you truly want LED bulbs on a vehicle then get a car with factory equipped LEDs(all new ones will have them someday anyway). Headlights is like a pair of prescription glasses which everything needs to be lined up optically correct. It may look brighter but distant objects will not be illuminated properly. Have to say that LED bulbs works great on other locations such as parking/interior lights and I highly recommend them.

    Only reason I am getting the LED HB3 9005 for my Acura is to match the color of DRL to my low beams and fog lights as well... If there is no improvement on visibility vs halogen, there is much better longevity of LEDs and also color matching experience. Whoever wants improvement over halogen should go for bi-xenon hid conversion kit.

    You cant rag on a particular LED bulb just because it didnt work for you. I have Beamtech bulbs on my Silverado and its damn near daylight at night. I had to really make sure they were aimed properly because I didnt want to blind anyone on the road. Theyre super bright. I love them. Plus you put them in projectors. Did you buy bulbs specifically for projectors or whatever matched your cars bulb fitment? Lastly, clean your headlight up a little bit. It would make a huge difference.

    Buy a cutout wiring kit phillips may cost you $30, buy a pair of phillips H4 rally 130/100 halogens cost $20, fix them and then get the headlights aligned from any tire alignment centre cost about $10, and now youll have lights to look atleast 200 meters in just $60. Ask a good mechanic or a real rally driver and they shall swear by this arrangement.

    The problem with upgrading bulbs in halogen projectors is that the shape of the beam wont take advantage of the extra light. Yes Halogen and HID projectors are different. If you put a brighter bulb into halogen housings then you will have a more output, but it all all focused where you could already see just fine. This extra bight area will only reduce your own night vision. IMO just stick to halogen. Dont be the guinnea pig for LED bulbs. Lots of people on youtube are doing comparisons and make recommendations based on your headlight design.

      Nah. Many people WANT more light in the cone. Halogen cone output is a joke, now. Plus, the more light ELSEWHERE means the more other people see. That is what many people want to avoid.

    • @rmendez011
      @rmendez011 6 лет назад +4

      You do realize your "Regular" headlamps are Reflectors, and he has Projectors. Reflectors reflect the light outward, while Projectors project the light. Reflectors will almost always be brighter than projectors with halogens, LED's are the same story. That's why it is recommended to use HID's in projector housings for maximum light output. Never use HID's in a reflector housing, the light will scatter everywhere, and you will blind everyone. Plus not all LED's mimic the original halogen beam pattern, and light could scatter all over the place and blind others, in projectors, there will be little to no light scatter most of the time. Don't call his video stupid if you aren't educated yourself.

    Most buy LED for a few reasons....
    1. Looks. Much nicer and whiter than yellowish light that halogens produce.
    2. Bulb lasts longer. Under most circumstances.
    3. Cheaper than whighter halogens (silverstars, etc. Which only last a year or so.)
    I have the same brand LED in my Pontiac G8. They are 3x brighter than any halogens ive used in the past (oem, silverstar ultras, etc). It all depends what type headlight housings your car has. (Projectors, reflective, etc.) Note...some projectors/ headlights reflect differently from others. (Sometimes the bulbs need to be rotated. do some Research on google) or 4 sided leds are the remedy.

    • @JosephBerger_1
      @JosephBerger_1  6 лет назад

      Good question! they're fine at night, but not in the rain. Due to white light being absorbed by water molecules (that's why fog lights are yellow) these lights don't illuminate as good as "yellower" halogens.
      I'd stay away from cheap chinese LEDs if you want to upgrade.

    LEDs suck in general. That blue tint on the road to strain your eyes and washed out light in bad weather is horrible. If you have halogen housings go with some Philips Crystal Vision or Xtreme Vision. If you have projectors get a 55 watt 5000k HID kit.
