    Right, so, there were loads of issues with the creation of this video. I reckon at least 17. ...and it's now landed at a time where it's probably not useful to anyone. However, welcome to my roughly intended approach to creating Warcry review videos. Attempting to shoehorn the 'Entertainment' back into REVIEW (I'm pretty sure the second E stands for Entertainment...). I think a couple of bits worked, and hopefully there's a nugget of info in here somewhere that's useful to you.
    Let me know what you like and what you don't. I'll be hoping to take a similar (albeit better timed and finessed) approach to these videos in future. Right, time to wash jelly and custard off *everything*.
    Cheers for visiting - David

    I’ve just finished GloomHaven and about to take the plunge and buy my first Warhammer game. Warcry is coming out on top.

    • @HobbyJackal
      @HobbyJackal  Год назад +1

      *Finished* Gloomhaven!? Bravo!! That is a sizeable achievement :D
      Warcry's my favourite game they currently produce, and whilst it's very different to Gloomhaven, you can get a decent experience and bang for your buck with a single warband which I love. And people seem to make it their own, from those who specifically play through narrative campaigns with friends to those who're into the stats and a more competitive scene.
      ...personally, I'm more into the casual/narrative side. But love it for that! :)

    Love WarCry, it's an excellent starting point to Warhammer as 40k can be daunting.
    Can have a burger in one hand and dice in the other haha.
    So me and a few friends are gonna start the narrative campaign from the core rule book this weekend.
    It's a bit confusing what we should move onto next once we clear all of our quests.
    Are there expansion books or anything like that?

    • @HobbyJackal
      @HobbyJackal  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hello hello! Marv'lous - a hearty cheery welcome to Warcry!
      So, I love the narrative campaign system. There are lots of extra campaign/quest options out there, but I'll start by saying, you could probably just play from the Core Book for the next six months regularly and still be happy. The generic quests act as tools to adapt, build and improve your warband, so they're not necessarily close-ended. You might do a quest to secure a new hero/thrall/ally and then do it again shortly after. Or go on a quest to find a new location after being booted out of your current camp. Or always be on the hunt for a new artefact or heroic trait. They'll often spam multiple games and creatively let you improve your fighters or expand your warband.
      As for further options, extra stuff has been published in White Dwarf or in every Warband Tome that accompanies most box sets released since heart of Ghur. I've reviewed a fair few of these, and whilst they'll often include Warband specific narrative content, they'll also include Campaign Arcs (which you also have in the core book as an extra add on) which are good fun! Sorry, this has turned into a bit of a lengthy ramble (I'm on my lunch break!) but initial advice is to get stuck in. I think you'll find the core book provides more than it initially seems (and don't forget there are also Alliance specific quests too which gives new locations, heroic traits and artefacts).
      ...finally, just ask if there's anything specific you'd like me to expand upon. Happy Warcrying! :)

      @@HobbyJackal Thanks for the warm welcome bro, and the ramblier the better haha. Cool, anyways for the first few meetings maybe just sticking to the core book would be the best idea. We have a good variety of warbands, 2 guys have the Hunters of Huanchi and Chaos Legionaires warband boxes. My Bonereapers friend drafted his own warbands and I'm Stormcast so I drafted mine from the AOS boxes I already got. We all have busy schedules so I like the idea of being able to track our own progress. We used to dnd so a storyline would be cool but maybe that will write itself once we play some games. I'm wondering if my Stormcast can follow the quests from the new box because I don't have those specific minis 🤔

  • @HobbyJackal
    @HobbyJackal  6 месяцев назад

    Hello! Right, firstly the quests for the Questor Soulsworn should be absolutely fine with your regular Stormcast if you chose to use them and folk were in agreement. We're generally talking flavour text attached to rules such as artefacts which might increase movement, toughness or damage or do something a little more fun. The quest outputs for specific names warbands tend to play a little into how they play (or sometimes more just that it's thematically interesting) but you'll probably find plenty of examples of the same heroic trait or artefact effect, albeit named differently.
    On a more useful note, the warcrier.net/docs/rules site is absolutely brilliant. It contains a warband builder (to track your own progress, although I've not tested this yet!) and... Loads of narrative quest info/content! It really is a great resource, allowing you to test things out before shelling out for any more print content :).

    Solid review. There should be a another new Warcry box set announced in the next couple weeks (due November 2022). If next set includes rulebook I may get that if I like the Warbands. If not I'll get the separate rulebook.

      Thank you! I think of it more as a bit of a 'wobbly review'.
      I'm super-interested to find out if the rules (or mini-rules) are included, as well as what the price point might be for these expansion. ...also seeing the newest Kill Team expansion, I do wonder how much scenery duplication we'll see.
      Hurrah, ape-high-five! ;)

    I just ordered this box from ebay last night. I'm worried that gw is planning on dropping warcry though. This box isn't on the website, and it seems like other stuff is missing too

    • @HobbyJackal
      @HobbyJackal  Год назад

      Hullooo! I've seen a few videos pop up with similar titles (although not watched) but I think it's very unlikely they're dropping Warcry :). They've confirmed this year we'll have big boxed releases (and cryptically "more") every 3 months with the next due in November. The Heart of Ghur was noted as a limited time release in one of their early articles. I wouldn't be surprised if we see it mined and reduced in size to create a new cheaper, more appealing starter set (as they did with Kill Team). Regardless, this is more than we got for first edition in a similar space of time :).
      As for the Warcry Warbands... They still appear in the leaked Slaves to Darkness Battletome being released at the end of this year, so they're not retiring them. I imagine they're just working down stock before a reboxing :). Although, I wouldn't be surprised if we don't get the old Warbands with cards as an option anymore, but it'd be nice to see. Hope this helps! 🙌

    • @HobbyJackal
      @HobbyJackal  Год назад +1

      Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the vid :).
      I'd say Heart of Ghur is the strongest box by far (although more expensive as a result). I've got LOADS of play out of the narrative rules included in the Core Book, and the scenery you get in this one instantly provides you with a decent area to play over.
      In terms of expansion, it's probably more down to personal preference. If you like extra rules, Sundered Fate & Bloodhunt include Forest Tactics rules and rules for fighting over fortifications respectively.
      ...if I were choosing my favourite terrain it'd be Bloodhunt, favourite warbands Sundered Fate, but they're all good, and pretty comparable to one another, but very much more of an Expansion than a starting point. I hope that helps! :)

    • @ooberallen
      @ooberallen Год назад +1

      @@HobbyJackal lol i've had this red harvest box sitting here for a while too, i should have built that terrain first before the trees, thenb at least i'd have 2 sets of terrain to playon. sadly it seems like this ghur setting will continue for the next 2 or 3 boxed sets soooo probably more meat trees that are in 12 pieces when they could probably be reduced to 4 or 5 pieces lol...
      Also I honestly don't mind the sparse terrain in the ghur box, my group only plays bespoke warbands so fly and ranged attacks are practically non existent

    • @HobbyJackal
      @HobbyJackal  Год назад +1

      @@ooberallen See how you go! The Red Harvest box offers a generous amount of scenery, so a nice alternative. The cards still work with 2nd edition Warcry, and if you did want to combine in future, who's to say mutated flesh trees aren't springing up amidst an abandoned mine? ;)
      I will just warn that the piece with the buckets is a tricky build. The bulk of it, though, way less tricky than a tree :).
      ...also great that the scenery's working well for your group! It does look fab on the table, and given the way the game works, you'll always have **endless** flexible with one scenery set :). 🙌
