Each time I see videos of people blatantly breaking the law, regardless of the circumstances, I wonder “Why isn’t law enforcement finding and prosecuting them?” There must be a logical reason. It seems so simple to me: arrest and prosecute all the adults that can be identified in the drone footage and prosecute them (as they say,) “to the fullest extent of the law.” Follow up this news story with one saying “20 Tourists in Florida, Arrested, Charged $50K Each.” The fact is, people do it because they know they aren’t going to be held accountable. Why have laws if they aren’t going to be enforced. I know some people are thinking “Yeah, but law enforcement needs to concentrate on REAL crimes.” Causing an endangered species to decline is a REAL crime. The comment section is dramatic so as is the clickbait title of this video. Manatees are friendly creatures that enjoy human presence. There was no evidence of these humans 'harassing' the manatees. If there was any signage, perhaps they were not recognized by these people. I cannot condemn them, specifically because they are tourist and perhaps did not know the local ordinance. We may have actually heard about a fine being given if the police thought that these specific tourists did, in fact, know about the laws. There is no common sense here considering some countries actually allow you to physically interact with ocean animals as long as it's done with respect, care, and in good faith. It's difficult to keep up with every single law of every single locality, country, continent especially if it seems harmless what you may be doing.
Tourists do the same thing to Monk Seals and Sea Turtles where I live. They know better. They just don’t give a fuck. It’s all for the social media. That’s why it’s becoming worse as people do anything to get views or likes on their posts. There are people who believe the place they are vacationing at exists for the sole purpose of entertaining them. They don’t realize that their actions negatively impact people that live there. They should be fined and ruin their vacation.
Can you STOP petting and taking selfies with wild animals? There is a REASON there is a law, they are not computer graphics, but actual animals. They are not subject to your momentary whim or pleasure.

No amount of explaining will help me understand this. Every interaction I have witnessed with Manatees has been good interactions. So what people want to pet a sea cow? Who wouldn't want to? Besides people saying respect them by keeping your distance, how are you supposed to do that when they literally come up to you when your minding your own business a manatee will just gladly swim right up to you especially in Florida.
That 50k fine should help you understand, and big trust I've heard both locals and tourists complain up and down when they get hit with it. But another reason why is because they get waaay to comfortable with human and try to follow us on our boats only to get sliced up by the blades. I've had mainly tourists come into my ER with trauma injuries from maneetes.
A year ago I was in Clearwater for my bday and a manatee swam directly past me. It was one of the most magical moments of my life being from MA. It was an arms distance away but did I touch it? Fuck no! I maybe an asshole to some but I’m never an asshole when it comes to nature.
Try the Apollo Beach viewing center in florida. You can walk out and view hundreds of them at a safe distance. Sometimes they have food you can throw out to them. They have a gift shop and restaurant there as well. There’s also a pier you can all around. It’s by the TECO power plant and manatees love it because it stays warm.
A BIG Deal made about how swimmers are harassing these manatees. They are curious creatures and will come up to you if given some space. They are also very powerful if spooked, so getting close is always a risk. I feel it is important to have some PERSPECTIVE. It is not Swimmers who are endangering these creatures. If you look on the backs of MOST Adult manatees, you will notice deep scars from Powerboat Propellers. THAT is the single cause of most manatee accidental deaths. I see Fishermen blasting full speed through marked manatee feeding zones all the time, completely ignoring the Slow Speed signs. Powerboaters should give these animals a wide berth, but the temptation for many is to get close to give passengers a look. Unfortunately, Powerboating has also become the last bastion of Drinking & Driving. Enforcement cannot keep up with all the dangerous impaired Powerboaters that are a threat to ALL life on the water.
I think what people are lacking is respect for boundaries. I just wish the police were present to give citations on the spot! And on another note, how many people want to be bothered when mating?
A lot of beaches have signs. A sign saying that there is a $50,000 fine might help. Also drones, or whatever, taking pictures. Like "Honey, they're taking pictures. I would'nt if I were you". Maybe?

My family was at a Gulf of Mexico beach yrs ago.. a sheriff truck was driving down the beach getting everyone out of the water as there was a group of manatees swimming right off shore.
They need to start enforcing the fines, if you have a couple people that have to pay the fine and they whine about it on social media, people stop pulling this garbage. People know the rules and they do what they want anyway, start holding them accountable, and make an example out of these people.
Well I'm a bit understanding. These people are uneducated about the endangered species. They love the animals so much, they were overexcited to see them come into human territory. By that I just mean shoreline, it's technically the manatee's territory. I mean think of how ecxting that would be to see this animal up close in the wild. The people didn't know what they were doing was bad and I'm sure if a beach ranger had come out there and ordered them away they would understand. There should be someone out there constantly to enforce the rules and protect the ocean.

There is no common sense here considering some countries actually allow you to physically interact with ocean animals as long as it's done with respect, care, and in good faith. It's difficult to keep up with every single law of every single locality, country, continent especially if it seems harmless what you may be doing.
😢ooh... Well it will be better to be save...❤
So do something and stop people from doing this! Give them fines or legal action!
Please tell me they locals called the cops on them. This is wrong and dangerous. They all need to be fined.
Seems like 90% of tourists leave their brains at home... of course anyone traveling to Florida may not have one to leave behind.
Seems like they did not know this species was different than rays or dolphins. I didnt know until just now.
Who allows their children around animals like that🤔
Idiots
Harassing ? Or trying to pet? Because they are told they are like big puppies.
Can you STOP petting and taking selfies with wild animals? There is a REASON there is a law, they are not computer graphics, but actual animals. They are not subject to your momentary whim or pleasure.
Hello Valkyrie, Happy New month😊 How is everything over there and your family I hope they are doing well?
Prosecute them immediately !!
Hi kwutopia, how is everything over there and your family I hope they are doing well?
These people are literally just gently petting them, it literally doesn't harm them in any way and this law is literally just in Florida, they need to deal with the crackheads and druggies instead of wasting money on people that are literally just petting them, we are animals too, we should be able to interact with any animal at our own risk, especially since they are no longer considered endangered.
These people should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law...
People are generally not all that bright.
Who had the drone
Enforce it with jail time and fines!... People will learn it much faster.
Harassing or interacting with ...
It's not fear of the wildlife it's respect
Hey Tourists, It's OK to pet the alligators
yeah! pet the hippos too 😊
alligators ain't very dangerous, they are literally scared of people 90% of the time.
So WRONG! People need to leave them and other WILDLIFE ALONE… I hope they find these people and charge them. $50,000 fine/1 year in prison.
Aren't there any authorities around to prevent humans coming in contact with them?
This would’ve pissed me off. I would’ve became a Karen and called the coast guard so fast! 😂😂
People are sick...leave wild animals alone!
THESE ARE NOT TOURISTS. THEY RE PEOPLE FROM FLORIDA, OBVIOUSLY.
I think what people are lacking is respect for boundaries. I just wish the police were present to give citations on the spot! And on another note, how many people want to be bothered when mating?
The way that woman screams from the bison scare gets me every time 😂
We are not educated as to the environment. So how can you come here and chastised. The later is a valid argument.
Thanks for sharing this
Hello Shelleycassidy, Happy New month beauty woman, how is everything over there and your family over???
With all that's going on in the world and they chose this as a top story. People interacting with nature. Screw the media
A lot of beaches have signs. A sign saying that there is a $50,000 fine might help. Also drones, or whatever, taking pictures. Like "Honey, they're taking pictures. I would'nt if I were you". Maybe?
So why weren’t these people reprimanded or arrested??? Disgusting human behavior. 🤬🤬🤬
Common sense just AIN'T that common!?!? And the adults allowed the kids to touch them 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
And the lady who got gorged in the back was STILL in the hospital taking selfies....lesson not learned 🙄🙄🙄
Didn't watch this, but who ever can hurt innocent defensive animals for entertainment purposes and laugh about are a waste of space on earth .that truly evil to me..next thing u know they turn towards people
i don't think this is common knowledge
I like how dude just casually said "Common Sense"
They should be more concerned about endangered intelligent humans.
The young kids just want to pat the wildlife while the women just want to play on the beach in their bikinis and have tickle fights with each other.
C'mon people have some sense! Imagine if you were having a gaang baang and a manatee rolled up and started petting you! How would you like it 😇
I've never seen a manatee move that fast in my life and I'm from Florida 42 years. That guy was PISSED.
this pisses me off cause as a child i accidentaly landed on one, and on that day on i constantly tried to take care of them whenever i swam next to one
My family was at a Gulf of Mexico beach yrs ago.. a sheriff truck was driving down the beach getting everyone out of the water as there was a group of manatees swimming right off shore.
What’s sad is that the adults and children’s parents are even encouraging this kind of behavior. This is sickening. Hope they get fined and arrested.
This is why Florians need Disneyland. This people think they live in make believe!
Well they do have Disney world
They need to start enforcing the fines, if you have a couple people that have to pay the fine and they whine about it on social media, people stop pulling this garbage. People know the rules and they do what they want anyway, start holding them accountable, and make an example out of these people.
I live in Canada and had no wtf a manatee was... if you don't put up signs, you can't expect tourists to know everything
I hope 1 of them big ones does a belly flop and just annihilates a bunch of dummies haha
Just leave them be! They are beautiful creatures JUST LEAVE THEM ALONE!
Leave those poor manatees alone, you jerks!!! 😭
It didn't knock him off his feet, the dude tripped, quit being dramatic
Lmao just imaging I’m laying down pipe and some random guy start breaking inside my house and start petting me like a dam pet 😂
They know better but as Desantis and Trump try to get people to come down to this state not for Disney or Seaworld, this is the result smh
Leave animals TF alone! We’ve done enough damage. People are trash.
Well if they want to touch wildlife, put them in a tank with sharks. I'm sure the sharks need hugs too.😁😁
Even when we went to the Grand Canyon there were people from China trying to get close to the elk...they were like elk I think they were big....it was insane....
Fines and catching ppl is a seldom occurrence. Ppl hv no regard for animals. SMH
A manatee laying on you is the equivalent of The big show frog spashing you … only if he weighed 500 more damn pounds
Ppl have nothing else to do
Where are The fucking lifeguards?
I think the adults there should be paying a fine, which is certainly preferred over paying with their lives.
Any good human would show them love. They deserve it. Animals & Humans should be friends. Just don't fucking try to kill everything.
