    Thank you, thank you, thank you...FINALLY...after watching over half a dozen RUclips clips on this subject, I finally come across this one that was chock-full of ALL the info I needed...
    I had no idea what sort (brand) of adjustable push-rods were in my Evo and of course with different manufacturers using different T.P.I. on their push-rods (Grrrrrr)...why they couldn't standardise them (?) = Dunno.... Anyhoo...Justin completely nailed it when describing the adjustment process...even down to mentioning at the end, how to adjust the ones (like mine) where the pedigree is unknown... Again, thank you Justin, and thank you S&S for this great video...and thank you J&P Cycles for posting it....

    Great info! Id like to add that this information is for S&S pushrods. The TPI or Threads per inch vary from brand to brand.. you MUST know your TPI before attempting to adjust! The turns or "flats" WILL be different..

    Good morning 🌅, J&P , I am from the future 😂2024 , I have just recently purchased a 2003 Softail deuce, somebody has been inside it, and put in SS gear driven cams G510 , and they have left in the original cam plate, I cannot quite see whether the oil pump has been changed,
    I have noticed that it seems to be very noisy , and I am thinking of stripping it all out and replacing cam plate, and obviously bearings plus new oil pump, and I believe that the engine has gone from 1450 to 1550, I’m not hundred percent sure because I cannot obviously check the ball and stroke without dismantling it, Do you think it’s worth stripping it completely and starting a scratch with new complete parts?, or shall I just change plate and bearings as necessary? France, I might have already asked this question, with you or somebody else,

    I managed to break the cylinderhead. Supposingly the spring from new lifter had got stuck a bit and lifter ended up being too long when it filled and valves hit cross. I found changing them from top with originals, comes to cost the same, its not that time consuming and doesnt harm to have a look under the rockerbox either. How often you do this anyhow, every five yrs or so.

    Go with the Quicky pushrods, Huge time saver because you dont have to remove the lifter covers. Removing the covers is not a big deal but aligining the pushrod when with the lifter cover is a major PIA. Almost no space and you have to be at the exact correct angle or it just will not work.

    Now here's a guy who knows what he's doing. I've a strange rattle somewhere. In my original search I find that compensating nut is loose, clutch spline stripped, hub is spider webbed and bearing is making rough noise and clutch discs were worn into hub segments. New clutch and tight compensate nut and less noise but still a strange rattle. 25,000miles on this 124 TC and I'm wondering if this normal.

    • @rrider993
      @rrider993 5 лет назад

      Funny, I have kind'a similar story. 1995 Evo with a cyclic" knock/clackity clack". Sounds like its coming from Compensating Sprocket. Replaced Spring pack- all else looked good. Still had that knock.
      Watched/listened with primary cover off... looked like chain stretch and noise was from some slap. (from chain flap itself- not against the inner case). To check I slightly over-tightened primary chain. That seemed to lower the knock. But with the quieter primary, I am hearing just as much clacking noise from the right side-loudest at rocker boxes ?! Its hard to narrow it down-especially with loud pipes, even using a scope.
      Regardless, have to now consider the noise is from valve train. I have not yet replaced the stock cam bearing with the Torrington. Since I am also getting some " intake farts", and dead-spot on acceleration from a stop, It is pointing to a lifter problem. Has that darn primary noise been covering up the lifter noise all along? Will find out when I start pulling the boxes and nose cone off.
      Any comments appreciated. Low mileage = 35K

    I have a sportster, 2002, 1200, I'm thinking about replacing my Cam Cover. (It's all flaking the chrome)
    Does S&S make adjustable push rods for my 1200?
    I'm thinking that might be easier than pulling my rocker boxes. My rocker box's are not leaking, I don't want to disturb them.
    Harley Dealership Replaced the rocker gaskets Circa 2008. Haven't ridden It a Whole heck of a lot since then. (10,000 miles maybe)
    Do you happen to have a video like this, only on a 1200 Sportster, Frame mount motor. I think from research, 1995 to 2003 was the same Cam/gear cover.
    While I'm in there, (If I decide to change the Cover) Is there a good "Mild Cam" Set I can install That will give me some Low to mid performance. I have Vance and Hines Pipes, (Like long shots I think) and screaming Eagle Air filter.
    If I put a set of mild cams "Geared" for low to mid range, would I likely need to re jet?

    what do you mean by base circle of the cam??

      @dictumfactum9468 7 лет назад +2

      Same as the "heel" of the cam. Basically 180 deg. opposite the lobe centerline of the cam.

      When the piston is all the way to the top of the cylinder and both valves are closed.

    How does a person know "IF" the hydro has bled down before the push rod is to be adjusted? In other words, How do you know if it is pumped up or not before adjusing?

    • @MrThager
      @MrThager 8 лет назад +1

      these adjustments are to be made on a COLD engine.. so the only "pumping up" of the tappet that should be happening is you turning the engine over to make sure you are on the base of the cam. Shouldn't have to worry about it too much. I always spin the pushrod before loosening the lock nut.. if it spins freely.. should be good to adjust.

    • @MrThager
      @MrThager 8 лет назад +1

      on the other hand.. once you've adjusted the pushrod.. you MUST wait till you can spin the pushrod you just adjusted freely again..using just your oily fingers before you move on to the next cylinder.

      one more thing.. this info is for S&S pushrod.. the TPI or Thread per inch varies from brand to brand.. you need to know what TPI yours are before attempting to adjust.. Its easy to figure.. remove one of your pushrods.. use a measuring tape and measure 1 inch of threads and mark with tape to hold your spot. Count the threads in the measured area.. this will give you your Threads per inch.. then look up the specs for adjusting.. ie how many "flats" to turn down..

  • @rsanchez5676
    @rsanchez5676 Год назад

    The ideas behind the math of flats , wasn’t really explained. If six flats is one complete revolution , you divide the total number of flats , by 6 , to calculate complete turns. Hence 24 flats equals 4 complete turns. Combinations of complete turns and remaining odd flats. 21 flats equals 21/6 or 3 1/2 turns.

    • @lougreen70
      @lougreen70 Год назад

      Your math is correct. The only variable is threads per inch on the push rods. S&S quickees are 32 TPI, or .03125 per full turn (6 flats)

  • @joshuarivera9229

    Wouldn't that be 18.75 turns? based upon the numbers you gave....Just slaying... (100,000 / 32,000) = 3.125 Rotations * 6 flats per rotation = 18.75 flats

    WHATS with the Flats?? SIMPLY Mark the Pushrod with a Sharpie and do Full Turns.
