Its disturbing when you see this stats. But i am grateful to god that startup culture is growing in india and our govt is doing every possible things to support them and we have great industrialists who are being angel investor investing in potential startups!

    • @stonecoldsteveaustin6389

No doubt startups culture is growing but how well the govt supports these start ups by tax benefits is equally important. Education is the most important factor for the growth but caste based reservations and politics to support these reservations have led this brain drain. It creates a huge impact and a big question mark on tax payers who don't even get basic facilities for the hard earned money paid us tax. Also indirect tax paid is not even counted for the salaried class.
Also imagine a distinction passed out student doesn't get admission in a good college just bcz of a quota which made a 50% marks student get the admission. In the end you find such individual working for a govt entity (that too under reservations) and spend his or her life peacefully. And this goes on generations. No value addition to the country.
Sad state. This is the reason Most of friends have migrated to developed countries.

Forgetting that they themselves follow the American rules but in India the same people want to ignore the rules n then complain about democratic freedom.
Racial differences are still there. All this doesn't seem to bother people because they are earning more.

Even if there is not much money(we have to strugglein early years to become financially stable)... and i love India more than any other western country because of its *family values*... the divorce rates are low, there is bonding with parents and even distant relatives. The social structure here makes ppl more interconnected and though minor problem exist like jealousy among relatives, formalities, superstitions, .. when there is a big wrong going on ppl come together and stop it..

Managing a country with 1.3 billion people who has their own billions of problem is not an easy thing. Its easy for us to compare and say all shitty things. But never i have seen any Government that has pushed the country down. Their politics might differ. Whether you agree or not, India has grown multi fold and will grow. Why do you think every country is taking on India. They all know we have grown. Only we dont recognise it.
No one uttered India in world stage few decades back. We were noone to developed nation. Now we are someone to them. We are on right track. Several things need to change, come lets change it by working towards it, not by shit talking our own country that fed you to talk like this. Whether it was thrown to you or taken by you or shared with you, it doesnt matter, this country provided it to you. May be our politicians are not that great, no countries politicians are thats the fact.
We can either shit talk and be sad about it or we can change few thing in our own capacity with a smile on our face. Or the best option run away from this country. Selfless love toward your country is what is needed. Others anyway are not going to contribute anything. Let them better run away. We can manage our show.
Probably Govt should charge a million dollar for those who are willing to leave this country after studying in Subsidized institutions like IIT and IIM.

Actually as a person in business, I am telling you, other than outsourcing, Nobody in the world is actually raving about India. Besides in world media the present India government is compared to Hitler style regime. Our only strength in present covid time is people, we can only export them. Manufacturing used to be our strength, with China's present stature, we are nothing, we will look old tech in front of them. Clothing was one of our strengths, not anymore, today Bangladesh is world leader. India has to renegotiate its foreign policies, strengthen in local industries, ease economic policies and make money available to its common people. Imagine if one rupee circulated via our banking channel per person per day it is 1.4 billion rupees per day. Which is great amount of money even if we convert it to Kuwait Dinar(most valuable currency in the world). Our politicians know they have so much money to play with. India has the resources, but it is managed by people who are not qualified for the job let alone read and write. Indian media is shit scared of the current central government, we have lost our freedom of speech in this country. The sense of Indian brotherhood/ sister hood is fading because the current government wants to rewrite 75 years of history. So Right now we are a confused bunch of people who cannot talk about being Indian without discussing religion or region. In reality this is a scary situation. This is how political instability began in countries like Sri Lanka, Syria, Afghanistan. I am not trying to over exaggerate, we should realize, there are other world countries gaining everytime you make fun of your next door neighbors who are dalits or south indians or muslim or from northeast. Our loss is their gain. And the rich and well educated and their generations wont suffer, because they can always migrate.

Rick is completely off about the democracy part.US probably has a bigger problem there due to the 2 party system. But due to its prosperity and comfort of living most don’t realize it.It does not usually impact their day to day life. The problem with the situation in India is the concept of ‘success’.People in the 70s used to refuse green cards. When the education system in India changed in the early 1970s(for political reasons) it actually started closing the doors of information and appointment.Only people of certain ideology could live comfortably. We start seeing huge changes in government appointments,University appointments etc…The golden period of the Romila Thapars of India. It actually encouraged mediocrity under the guise of sophistication.Beautiful English, not much to say, except culturally negative opinions. For the rest, especially the non English educated bright but not rich middle and lower class it slowly became frustrating.Add to it the reservations of the Mandal commission of 1989 which was the breaking point. Most students in India today are products of the post 1970s curriculum. No wonder they are taught to blame Indian democracy.Social issues exist in every country, they are just expressed differently. As a non white woman, try working under an old white male in a non IT related profession in the US.Not much different.Today the reason youngsters want to move west is definitely cultural as well. The less they know about their own and the more they are exposed to the west via media platforms, the perceived glamour becomes attractive. It is not necessarily the brightest who want to leave anymore. It’s anyone who is attracted to a certain ‘lifestyle’.Maximum enjoyment with the least amount of work. Not to say they do not work at all but the work/fun ratio expected has changed massively. And this is not possible in India. The solution is actually not very difficult .Just make an internship /bond (2-5 yrs of national service depending on how subsidized your education was)for students graduating out every year. It’s only right.

Its not the same 2 parties at Central and State level. So India is indeed different from the US.

While almost all the reasons are true in some degree some missed ones are reservations (affirmative action), the post independent socialist Anti Rich mindset still prevalent and endorsed by vested interests. Wealth creators are looked upon as villains (like in a lot of bollywood movies). The "democracy" thing is an entirely Ideological opinion based on one's Ideology which has Little to no impact on decision to leave. For instance you can find a large chunk of NRI and Ind-American community sharing the Ideological opinion (in Indian context) which others can call "undemocratic". So that is individual thing.
Also, it is not entirely harmful to some extent, it increases our soft power, potential for huge capital influx for example many Indo-Americans have donated to their Alma Mater in India in millions of dollars, many fund our start-ups here in Bangalore, many run social service etc. The issue is yes they get hugely subsidised education in premiere institutions, as in India public institutions are in the best in class. But we can consider that as investment on our HR that pays dividend in various ways years later.
Not saying it should not be addressed, but emigration is not necessarily a bad thing just like immigration isn't. The mentioned problems are in any case problem for Indians who don't leave, good infrastructure, opportunities, improvement in gender equality, social security, some existing social-political problems etc need addressing and hopefully they are being looked at

India isn't a bad place to live...if you already have money. But if you are in the middle or lower middle class, your problems grow exponentially and life can become difficult. That's why the concept of "American dream" came along back in the 20th century. Aspiring middle class Indians would move to the United States of America and try to become successful. If they succeeded, great. But even if they failed, middle class life in USA wasn't that bad.

Some stupid babies who spoke to you ( the name which i dont like but i feel is correct here) are misleading, misinformed and negative..

That's the reason people who have merit are preferring to work in private companies and in foreign nations like America, Europe, Australia and gulf nations. India has provided, engineers, nurses, construction labor, lab technicians, English professors and several other types of skilled labor to Middle East, Europe, Australia and even South East Asian countries in multitudes. Somehow I feel several content creators conveniently marginalize the migration to USA in order to make their brain drain argument more potent. Simply put success ladder in India is longer, harder to climb as compared to USA. Very hard.
And the decision is very easy to leave. I kinda agree with Rick when he said about how India is a democracy but doesn't act like one. The biggest issue of India is lack of transparency & corruption, which is so institutionalized that its become a new normal in Indian democracy & it has turned into "CHALTA HAI"(its ok) attitude. If that's your attitude, how can you expect change? No government that comes to power takes firm actions against corrupts. Corruption is such a pandemic in India that once a former Prime Minister once said that ...out of every Rupee (dollar) thats allocated for public work, only 20 paise(cents) reaches its intended purpose. That's 80% of money swindled..all of which is used up by politicians & bureaucrats. Most of who I have spoken too gave this as the major reason for them leaving India for good.

I love my country, and I am proud of the history and heritage, but I am not proud of the culture. Indian society is relatively more conservative and I'm more on the liberal side. Maybe I'll turn conservative as I grow older but as a youth I believe in absolute personal freedom. You don't get that in India because we are tethered in joint and extended families, even caste and other such communities, which dictate the limits to our lifestyle. It comes to a point where you feel suffocated by your own parents too. Not to mention the sexual repression until marriage. The west is tempting because it means more freedom for something as simple as daring to love a girl from another religion or live a single life. India never got to socially evolve despite the efforts of our social reformers, and the political clusterfuck has only made matters worse. Moral degradation is real in India and I feel it too.
If Indians were not struggling financially, most of us, including me, would leave, because that's practically the right thing to do.

The reason for an Indian to go abroad is not because their homeland is a hell. It is because of their homeland is a prison. When a foreigner talks to an Indian, he/she will tell their greatest right in that country, 'freedom'. But this is not the freedom to live, it is a freedom to suffer from an Indian life. We Indians became a part of the world after our independence struggle in the 1950s. And we are going towards a 2050s where everyone struggles for their individual freedom to live in their own country. There are a million factors for an Indian to leave India. But Indians who left India not possibly cares about their homeland. Because they know that if they cares their nation, it won't help the primary migrating country like India to recover from its pathetic situation. From family to government, everyone focuses on their own goal. Youngsters in India are more getting tested in their life than their education. Youngsters in India came to an Era where everyone around them eating their efforts and skills. I am proud to be an Indian. And I love my country. Even everyone who's leaving Indian citizenship not possibly cares but always miss their birth place. But every Indian dreams a better life and that makes them to leave their nation.

I think it is a bad thing and somewhere a good thing that so many Indians went abroad and still do. Their behavior and work abroad has helped to shape the opinions of people in those countries towards how educated and productive India and Indians can be. I personally feel this has helped improve India's image in the global arena in a small way. I feel money is the primary motivating factor for the brain drain. The Indian government or even the private sector simply can't afford to match the kind of pay that first world countries can give for similar type of work. In case of work based on research skills like biochemistry, genetic engineering, etc. we are yet to provide the skilled work force the needed infrastructure to the level that can be provided in the first world countries. Personally I feel if and when India does grow economically due to increased manufacturing processes here, and invests that money earned into developing those kinds of infrastructures, those productive people might return when they can still contribute to the economy and not just when they get old to live out their last days in the motherland. All of my school and college friends are presently either in the USA or Aus or France. I deliberately chose a field where I wanted to work for my people. So I chose to forego the money although I'm a middle class person in India. Maybe slowly more Indians would want to stay back for the motherland. The government needs to do a lot more than just vote bank politics to stop this brain drain

Also parents here don’t pressure and control their children into being highly competitive workaholics.
