He’s the President who keeps saluting during the Parade. It’s really a very special and an awesome event celebration held every year . we used to watch the whole program in our childhood.
As the supreme chief of the three wings of the Indian military, he is the first citizen of India, The President of India. During the parade, each party salutes the President as he passes by. The parade is many kilometers long. For those who find the task easy, it is not really easy. The parade of the Indian military involves walking with the heel of the foot in which the knee should not bend.🇮🇳✍
Point of Information: Its the three wings of the Indian military (said Indian Army on top), I m sure you already know that. But putting this here for The Stupid Reactors (Rick and Korbin) in particular. Everything else is picture perfect from the comment above.
In India the President is the constitutional head and also the Supreme commander of the armed forces. The Prime Minister is the head of the Legislature where all the laws are made. That is why the President awards all the civilian awards and military honours. If India has to go to war, the Legislature will have to vote in favour and the decision of the Legislature has to be approved by the President this authorising the armed forces to go to war. As the supreme commander, it is only the President who can take the salute of the guard of honour of the armed forces on republic day.
Minor nit - the PM is not the head of the legislature. He is the head of the Government, which is formed by the party with a majority in the lower house, Lok Sabha. The Lok Sabha's (lower house of the bicameral legislature) presiding officer is the Speaker and the Rajya Sabha's (upper house) ex-officio chair is the Vice President. For Americans, this is loosely equivalent to the Speaker of the House in the Congress being the PM. The House of Representatives in Congress is the equivalent of the Lok Sabha (House of the People with elected members representing the different voting constituencies/districts in the country). The Senate is equivalent to the Rajya Sabha (Council of States). The President is the head-of-state and the head of the executive, but the PM and his cabinet of ministers carries out almost all of the executive work. When parliament is in session they represent the govt in Parliament but the PM doesn't preside over the proceedings, the speaker does.

This parade runs at least for couple of hours in the morning after the flag hoisting, the video you showed is just a sneak peak and it is about the celebration of it's culture and it's a feast watching it time and again. India's Army is Huge and all these different uniforms are from Army, Airforce, Navy and each have number of regiments and their uniforms code changes every time for all these number of regiments and hence you see all different colors. India itself means Colors, Festivals, Food, Arts, Family System, Science, Astrology, Numerology, Accupressure, Yoga, Spirituality, Agriculture, Movies(Bollywood, Tollywood, Kollywood etc there are 10's of them), Sports, Machinery, Pharmacy, Information Technology, Railways, Military, Defense, Nuclear Power, Satellites, Billionaires, CEOs of MNCs etc. It's not just a country, each state in India itself is like a country as there are officially 22 languages and unofficially hundreds of languages with different dialects(yes, no exaggeration) and each state's culture, food, festivals all differ. In one word, India is not a country, but a mini WORLD. There is nothing in India that is not available here. Btw, India stands as top 5 in the economy and top 2 as the strongest and largest Army and top 3 in the Airforce and now with the latest INS Vikrant's addition(cost $2.9Billion USD) in Navy which is indigenously built by India in India and stands as the 6th country to have such a gigantic ship. The west is slowly realizing what India is and not as shown by the western biased media showing slums and snake charmers...I live in the US and I see there are still lots of deprived folks begging at traffic signals in CA, TX etc and many places I see lot of people sheltering at downtowns, salvation army places, under the highway bridges etc. There is still poverty in the developed country like USA and it's high time, no offense but the west change their pre conceived notions towards rising India which is the only country flourishing now with unbelievable GDP growth when almost the entire west and europe are fearing or falling into Recession. Jai Hind! Proud Indian!
I am on Ricks side here the good need to put on a brave front to show the bads that we can and will react if you engage us.
I think America definitely should put up a military parade, it would be wonderful to see the American military in it's full glory and the floats you mentioned are representing different states each and its amazing, it happens every year and you would love it

He is Ramnath Kovind, the President and the commander-in-Chief of Indian Army, Navy and Air Force. The President is also the first citizen of the country. Although Prime Minister (Modi) has all the executive powers and is the most powerful person in India like the President in US, Indian President is placed above PM in hierarchy.
He is the president of India ( Shri Ram Nath Kovind) the supreme commander of the three armed forces ,the forces salutes him and he acknowledges the salute....in India there is a president and prime minister (modiji) is more popular .....it's amazing and we r really proud of our nation and the parade ..

But that person saluting is the president. He is the head of state and the supreme commander of the armed forces. He is the only person who receives the salute and he salutes back.
If you look at the tanks as well. Their nose is kept down. This can be done only in 2 conditions. 1 in front of the president as a mark of respect.
2 in case of defeat or resignation
That man who the Army men are saluting is the supreme commander of the Indian defence forces, the president of India Mr. Ramnath Kovind.
The march is over 12 km (7.5 miles) long. So these people march in synchronicity for a long period of time.
