Omega's Seamaster 2541.80 will always be considered the most admired or desired model purely linked to 007. This model continues to rise in value from 1995, and purely on status and kudos linkage to Bond and being the original quartz Bond watch you see these going for between £1,500 to £2,450. I personally love mine, Omega have an amazing heritage in watch making, long may it last.
Thanks for sharing mate - long live the Bond Seamaster 300m!!
I had a choice in 2001 of Quartz or Automatic. The price difference then was very little.
I chose the Quartz, because it was THE Goldeneye watch and 22 years later have never regretted the choice.
It is still one of my favourite watches of all time.
Your second hand needs to be calibrated as it looks slightly off
Whose second hand? Why need?
@@jamesrobert4106 But does it still works?
I have it, and it is the watch that gets most wrist time. Of course I bought it because I'm a big fan of goldeneye! Love it, quartz watches like this with interesting heritage should get more consideration.
Thanks for sharing - that’s awesome!
I've got one of the quartz , absaloutley brilliant watches, just getting mine repaired and serviced, looking forward to getting it back 👍
I love both watches, but the overall aesthetics of the older one appeals to me more, not to mention the price! Great review as always!!!
Thanks Stu!
@@PerthWAtch can I get the automatic version of this watch for around $2,300 thanks 😎👍
That’s probably reasonable if it’s in good nick
@@PerthWAtch thanks for the information 😎👍
@@PerthWAtch also is it possible to get an iwc mark xviii for around $2,300 😎👍
I have the same watch, but a silver bezel. Wanted the automatic movement but when I saw the silver bezel and it was quartz movement I had to have it. 20 years later it is still my daily watch without fail.
Wow that’s amazing - a much loved piece indeed!
I had the blue bezel, sold a few years ago, many watches bought & sold & I’ve just bought the silver bezel, immaculate condition, basically I’ve come full circle, the second I saw it, I was sold, it just wears beautifully 😎
Both of these watches are true pieces of art! The Omega Seamaster and the Oris Aquis are my grail watches!
Man are they beautiful pieces of work....
Yeah they're pretty darn good looking aren't they? Nice choices - Oris considerably easier to acquire of course!
I adore this watch. I have owned one since 2000. It is my favorite among all my watches. My only regret is not showing Pierce Brosnan that I was wearing it when he was standing RIGHT NEXT TO ME at the airpot.
Haha I don’t blame you… I probably wouldn’t think of that either. Plus he might well look at it and think “whys this guys showing me his watch…?” 😂
This watch is very hard to find at a reasonable price but I managed to find an automatic 2531.80 at 1100$. Yesterday I gave it for a Bezel replacement at the AD. Great review Ivan!!
That’s a good price for this piece. It is popular as it is a movie model you can actually buy :)
@@PerthWAtch I just got lucky)))
Excellent review . Big fan of Seamasters , great value for money
Thanks for that - glad you enjoyed the video :)
@@PerthWAtch when you going to feature another smartwatch? Meanwhile, I am thoroughly enjoying your show. Best Regards
Dunno man, I don’t enjoy them very much and find them harder work to review...
great review, I have the 2531.80. I have many watches in my collection but the seamaster still gets the most wrist time!
Thank you - yeah I can imagine that, it's a great watch! :)
I love the independent hour setting! It’s too bad the 3531.80 automatic version doesn’t have that feature!
Thanks - I think it makes sense in a quartz for a user that changes time zones frequently as you would want to avoid hacking the watch unnecessarily, whereas for an auto it usually only features on GMT watches. I'm not aware of any 3 hander auto which has this feature.
Beautiful overview! Love this Omega! They are just stunners, and professional divers for sure! Bond watches really stand out in the crowd 😎😎👍👍
Thanks for that - glad you enjoyed it
Great review and comparison, I really enjoyed it! I happen to own both the quartz and the automatic, they are both equally beautiful and nearly identical in the looks department. Goldeneye got me into Omegas, so it was only fitting to own the quartz model. The automatic gets the most wrist time, however.
Thanks for sharing your experience, and glad you enjoyed this! Yeah, near impossible to tell the difference between the two on the wrist apart from the movement of the second hand :)
Great vid. I like the wave. I have the automatic co-axial model that came immediately before the auto you show here and it has the wave pattern.
Thanks! Yeah I would've like to see that model but it had a rather short run... it was the one Craig actually wore in the movie too!
@@PerthWAtch Casino Royale
Yes
Ahhh yes its the Seamaster, its like a gentle breeze from the ocean that caresses your face or that morning rey of sun and cup of coffee that starts your day, you look at it and suddenly a smile appears because you know its going to be a lovely day.👍🏼
Very poetic - Omega should pay you to do their marketing :)
I love my Seamaster fellas what can i tell ya? its just a very nice watch.👌
Thanks for the review Ivan...great job! I love this design.
Thanks Chris - yeah it's a great classic piece! :)
Thank you for your review🎉and comparison. Also, I have Seamaster Ref: 212.30.14.20.03.001 about 10 years. In my opinion, overall the quality and design of this watch is better than the old one😀
Yeah, I pretty much agree with you there.
You just made me pause your video, search and listen golden eye 😂😂 awesome vid btw!
Haha yeah I didn't like it when I first heard it on watching the movie, but it's actually pretty catchy and a classic now :)
I love this watch. Just wish the automatic was used in the movie but it still has a special place in my heart. I was born in 95 and it was Bonds first Omega.
Yeah... but he did use the auto in every movie after that :)
Only Goldeneye featured the 2541.80.
Great review Ivan...That scaloped bezel immediately reminded me of your Invicta Pro Diver.
Thanks - it does indeed, but I'm pretty sure the "copying" was done by Invicta :)
I’ve wanted this watch for a while. Great video!!
Thanks for that - I would love to have the automatic version :)
Going with quartz. I can get a beautiful auto like a JLC some day but to me the quartz Goldeneye appeals more. Thin, accurate and cheap to run, service....i don't see why so many people have such a negative reaction to this watch, and prefer the 2531.80 instead.
To me this makes more sense as a carefree tool watch... I'm going 2541.80
P.s. currently i have the midsize version. It's accurate to less than a second per day. In fact it seems to be dead on every day...its beautiful and i never have to worry about it, except a battery change
Like i said, if you want a great auto, get a watch with a very nice movement.... the 1120 isn't exactly incredible is it?
I think the original bond Omega is this one.....i would be happy with either if I'm honest, but the quartz wins on this occasion (the only other quartz watches i like are G shocks and other Casios)
Thanks for sharing those thoughts. I have a somewhat different view on this. I invite you checkout my vids on “why wear automatic” and also “why wear quartz” for my ideas on both sides of the argument.
@@PerthWAtch will watch this eve thank you! I'm just really drawn to the quartz Bond. Can't explain it. I'm selling my first generation Aqua Terra and it had so many issues with running slow , stopping.. have had to get it serviced and will sell, then will buy the Bond
Great comments . I learnt several things about my watch. Thanks
Glad it was helpful! :)
i got mine in ‘99, automatic...and still running like well.......im gonna pass it on to my son..or daughter 👍🏻👊🏻😀
Thanks for sharing that - it's a great watch to keep and certainly should be one that can be generational as you intend :)
how often do you service it?
Kayla Smith so far only twice....once in '08 and last week..hardly wore it too nowdays
Kayla Smith its one tough watch...
Love quartz I respect mechanical love the GoldenEye seamaster the original and the best love the slimer look. Love the video just subscribed to channel
Thanks for that - glad you enjoyed this video :)
Nice comparison Ivan. I prefer the newer model on the right and the newer model still looks great. If only we could still get them for $1k 😜
Hahaha in only! Need a time travel machine...
I own both the automatic 2531.80 and this one. I only wear the quartz version and love it! It’s my daily wear watch.
Why do you wear only the quartz one?
@@PerthWAtch just because i dont need to wind it and I rotate with other watches. the automatic i keep in a safety and only wear occasionally,
Ah ok fair enough mate!
Great review , I have a 2551.80 and I love it.Omega one of my favourite brands
Mine too :)
One thing I love about Omega is their design on clasp. Especially this one, long and narrow. Totally flat and not a thing sticking out.
Thanks for that - love the new profile pic :)
@@PerthWAtch Wow, I totally didn't realize that, what a coincidence! I was simply feeling the mood after knowing Daniel Craig gon' be wearing a new 007 Omega in the next movie.
Hahaha that's awesome :)
I had the chance to buy any of the 2 for the same price, I went with the old one, nothing beats the wave dial and the Brosnan look
Which two? You mean this and an earlier model?
@@PerthWAtch yes, a black wave coaxial and a Brosnan automatic, went with the Brosnan, dont like the black one
A great watch, I bought the Automatic version new in 2000 ... Fantastic quality bracelet .
Thanks - yeah many consider this bracelet one of the best in the business :)
That's the best one IMO. Best case, best dial, best bezel and got to have that automatic movement.
Thank you for this video and the review of these great watches...I couldn't decide which one I like more, the old or the new design! I think the new model looks better with the black dial, the old model must be blue!!
Thanks and you're most welcome - yeah fair call about the colour choices... I'm partial to blue myself but the black enamel does look very good :)
@@PerthWAtch Thank you for your answer...and yes, that's my problem: Old vs new model and the colour...very difficult!! Have a nice weekend!!
The quartz could go up in value down the line more than the automatic. It is the original Bond watch from GoldenEye. Not the automatic. And, it has all the fit and finish of the automatic without the shortcomings of an automatic. Don't get me wrong, I love automatics. And, another reason I think the quartz could be the more valuable piece down the line is because it is period correct. I mean that when this watch was made, quartz was still a technology that improved the overall accuracy and Technology Andc ease of use ... until things like cell phones and smart watches came along. So, the quartz is period correct for what was going on in the 90s with regard to watches. It was a cutting-edge tech that appeared and disappeared for the most part in 20 years. Quartz. Anyway, all the seamasters are cool, just wanted to make a few comments on the quartz Bond. Love it!
Thanks for sharing. Your thoughts make some sense, but the reality is that the automatic is the more desirable one, and is the one that has held more value. Did you know that ALL the other Brosnan movies featured the automatic version, and only Goldeneye had the quartz?
Daniel Craig's Bond wore the auto version. Case closed.
Wrong - Craig never wore this watch 😂🤣🤣
Holy crap how did you keep your box looking so good? Most of the ones I've seen are tattered to all hell with red smears inside
This probably wasn’t the original but rather a more recently purchased one…
I'll have this model one day, Goldeneye is not the best Bond movie i have to admit but that watch is looking on point in the movie.
Yeah definitely not the best Bond, not that anyone has said AFAIK.
The automatic would’ve been better :)
I really prefer the minute hand to not reach the chapter ring. I can still clearly see what time it is, and it is easy enough to line up when setting the time. I prefer this for two reasons:
1) The smaller skeletonized hands are more attractive (subjective, I know)
2) When the lume is charged, whether by sun or by lamp, the minute hand cannot obstruct the indices
Interesting point - it’s very true that a minute hand can end up blocking an index!
I just ordered the new black one but goodness sake that thing is still gorgeous.
Yeah it's held up pretty well I reckon. Where did you order from?
@@PerthWAtch I went through Exquisite Timepieces in Florida.
The older 2541.80 is the most beautiful.
Is it?
I don't care its quartz, its a grail watch, but it does bug me it doesn't hit on the second hands, and has my name on it for my 50th birthday. Ivan that's 15mths away so get saving mate 👍👍
Very nice, I shall keep that in mind :)
@@PerthWAtch and now I have that in writing lol
Joshua hi my friend no it’s still on the list. I will own one but I’m having to wait longer
Joshua this virus financially wiped me out so it’s gonna be a longer wait than I thought. I will get one, one day 👍👍 good luck to you my friend in owning one they are awesome and I will make a vid as soon as I’ve got it. Take care 👍
I had to view your video again , this watch is beautiful !!!
Yes it is :)
@@PerthWAtch If I could have any watch in the world it would be an Omega ! 😊
Still prefer the older one but automatic!
Yeah definitely automatic for me too, if given a choice!
great video as always ivan
Thanks man :)
I bought an automatic one in 2000 for about $1,200, if memory serves.
Prices used to be so different - I envy you ;)
I’ve got an aqua tera 15000 gauss, I like the textured dial, even if it’s just straight lines. That being said I think the submariner smooth dial works great too. I prefer the texture on the sea master to offset the less visually stimulating bezel.
Thanks for sharing those thoughts about the use of dial textures!
Did Omega really have to cease their quartz Seamasters??? I'm sure there would have been a market for both.
I’m sure they didn’t really have to do that, but I think it would be difficult to push the price to now over $5k if there was also a quartz option available in same size and look.
@@PerthWAtch They could have just kept them on but at a cheaper price. The mechanical fans would always know their’s by the sweeping seconds hand when comparing. I just prefer the accuracy from a quartz.
@@thekerryman The point is, if they sold quartz at, say, 4k, and mechanical at 5k, they'd just be losing 1k for every quartz sold. They don't want to offer a cheaper option.
I prefer the look of the aluminum bezels, that being said the ceramic one would be less fragile and sensitive to shocks and scratches, right?
Aluminium is easier to do brush finish with and will never shatter. Ceramic is very scratch resistant but can shatter.
It’s very much analogous to acrylic glass vs sapphire crystal.
I’ve got the mid size 36mm? I think it is bracelet fell to bits when I tried to resize it last year but after 20 years of owning it still looks great few battery changes so no longer waterproof I as couldn’t afford omega battery and seal change price but still love it and it one of few watches in my collection that is a keeper 👍
No need Omega to do, just use a good local watchmaker it will be fine
It's got pin and collar mechanism in the bracelet so can be fiddly. Once it's done, it's great, but Rolex have screw in pins which is much better.
I have the same watch. They're lovely
Good comparison. Don't want to sound like a watch snob but I got rid of my SMP Quartz and replaced it with 2531.80 Automatic. I guess I like my watches with automatic movements. Although, I do own various Casio watches but that's another story.
Thanks - oh I would definitely love to have the automatic 2531 but this was passed to me as no longer used by a brother in law, crown have been torn right off. I got it fixed up for not very much and am not complaining having this piece now - as they say "losers can't be choosers" :)
@@PerthWAtch Hey, for that price I would keep it too. Congrats.
I’m thinking about picking one up the watch still looks good in 2023 still quite pricey for great condition ones with box.
Yeah I’d try to get the automatic myself
Love my electric ⚡️ blue dial 300M. Wife and I have matching set. Wave 🌊 dial all day long.
Haha nice one - hadn’t heard it described as “electric” though!
@@PerthWAtch on this side of the pond it’s an “electric”. The blue wave looks like it dances in the sunlight. Although I know it doesn’t get as much respect as a mechanical movement you always need a beautiful quartz in the collection and this one is one of my favourite watches to wear on vacation. It’s a solid, dependable, purpose built watch that draws attention from those who know watches.
Which pond is that?
did this have the anti reflective treatment on the crystal? the older version looks better
Yes
I like the wave version much better however I don’t like those lines on the bracelet. Much prefer the simplicity of an oyster bracelet.
Hmm... I don’t think Omega do an oyster style bracelet to go with this though...
Perth WAtch I was referring to Rolex oyster bracelet
Ah ok I see what you mean
I just bought the 2531.80 automatic version in great condition on ebay for $1400 shipped
Cool... I envy you! :)
@@PerthWAtch Why? You already have 2 Seamasters :)
Good point - it's my first world problems :P
Did you ever try to fit the bracelet of the coaxial into the older model? do they fit?
Thanks,
Not sure man, it’s not something I would be in a hurry to try!
The bezel on the newer model is thicker to make is easier to turn. You know, for people who actually use it for diving and not sitting behind a desk.
Did they tell you that? I wish they would’ve told me too... or just put it on the website. Plain daft not to ;)
I can’t help but notice that the second hand misses the minute markers. I wonder if it hit them better when it was new. I know it’s an older watch, but at this price there is no reason for it now to be aligned better.
Yeah, it seems that hitting the mark is an elusive achievement that modern science & engineering still struggles with!
Mine is exactly the same, never took much notice to be honest.
I love my 2254.50 and 2531.80
Great watches both! :)
What about the black Sean Bean one? Apparently he got to keep it after filming.
Yep that's pretty much the same era version in black... I kinda assumed they get to keep at least one one these, given what Downey Junior gets from watch sponsors!
Este es el original el primero el Santo Grial de los seamaster 007,gran reseña felicitaciones, por suerte he tenido ambos cuarzo y automático, Omega prestigio absoluto.
What
I have the 2531.80 Omega Seamaster which is automátic
The best ..value..with AUTOMATIC ..my friend .
kinh vu yeah jaja but is basically the same as yours the looks and everything
Yep, model 2531 is the automatic version, which was used in the other 3 Brosnan films, as I said in the video, along with reference links in description ;)
Pierce Brosnan was definitely my favorite oo7 but I can't believe he wore a quartz watch LOL especially when omega makes an automatic that's identical. They say you can tell what generation a person grew up in depending on who they think the best Batman is and who they think the best oo7 was. Obviously Michael Keaton and Pierce Brosnan LOL
Haha actually I think Ben Affleck and Christian Bale are the best we have had on screen... and Connery is still hard to surpass :)
Brosnan has the quartz for Goldeneye but this was changed to the automatic for all his other movies.
@@PerthWAtch Ben Affleck Batman was awesome is awesome I'm hoping he plays him again he was so good as Batman because he was scary like if you got in his way he would kill you Michael Keaton Batman never killed anybody LOL but to me Michael Keaton will always be Batman first but you are right batfleck did awesome made me fear the Batman like he's supposed to be LOL also Pierce Brosnan is a watch guy in real life wears a black Tag Heuer in Dante's Peak and has a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso he wore in Thomas crown affair
Roger Moore wore quartz Seikos
And?
Perth WAtch OP was opining that he couldn’t believe Bond wore a quartz watch. My point being that Moore not only wore quartz, but a Japanese brand many think, erroneously, is inferior to Swiss horology. I’m a big fan of Seiko.
Very nice review.
Thank you :)
I do prefer the slimmer quartz look actually
Many do! :)
Can't figure out what it offers on top of a Tissot or Victorinox quartz watch?
Kick ass design and celebrity endorsement of course :)
If the accuracy was as accurate as a grand seiko I’d buy in a heartbeat but it’s nowhere close
You mean spring drive? I'm not sure... aren't those rated +/- 1 second/day? Quartz is generally +/- 15 seconds/month.
What is a fair price in 2024 for this quartz model?
I would like to know - let me know what you find out :)
Nice to see the real thing.
You seen many fakes??
@@PerthWAtch Yes. The differences vary between manufacturers and I think, country of origin of the various parts. Most have the date window in the 6 position. Printed date dial usually misaligned under date window so double digit dates show only one of the two numbers. Helium release crown usually a fixed decorative item. Most copy seamasters with a bracelet come with a combination type; hidden butterfly clasp on a less detailed seamaster band. Gloss connector link sections on the usual links. Even at the low end, full sized watches, with smaller case sizes as one moves up the price curve to the mechanicals, including the commemoratives, movie watches, and such. This substandard sizing seems to hold true with the pricier copies while the basic quartz watches are full sized. All of them need 2 to 3 additional links to fit on my wrists, The 'blue' dial faces are a blackish midnight blue, barely distinguishable from black, no vivid blue items have shown up. My collection, for my own owning pleasure. I'm keeping my collection all my life,, nearly 70 so that's not a long time, and my heirs can decide what to do with it.. Certainly there is an order of magnitude between owning the original and owning copies, but not everyone can afford thousands for a watch, ANY watch. And so, I enjoy hearing from those that DO own originals, a video such as this is part of the pleasure of these timepieces. For this, I thank you.
Thanks for sharing those detailed thoughts from your experience - most appreciated!
Date window in 6 position is probably homage of the current model 42mm sized 300m right? It doesn't make sense they'd get this wrong trying to KO this model as that would take more effort & cost!
@@PerthWAtch I think so. My efforts have been towards finding the older style items with the date window at the 3, in wave blue. I can get close copies of the Seamaster bracelet with the non-logo, non-microadjust dual button clasp, and need to order some soon. Cost can mount up as such replacements go for $20 each and I'll need to add an average of 2 or 3 extra links to each one for fit and comfort. This means sacrificial bracelets as donors. It may be that non-adjustable links can either be converted to adjustables that use the tiny cotter pins, or be attached permanently in a factory manner. I don't know yet as my collection isn't that old yet and I'm still learning the market. I'm enjoying this hobby a great deal. It's affordable at my level of income, allows me to enjoy a VASTLY extenuated 'connection' to Bond pictures as a fan, and forms something of an escape from the humdrum of my daily life.
It's a shame the seconds hand doesn't hit the markers.
My Omega hits the marker perfect.
Yours probably just needs a service or the second hand adjusting.
Yep I suspect you're right about that :)
Glorious watch I would have the quartz anyday 👍 thanks Ivan
Most welcome James :)
1995 model much more subdued, refined, elegant, imho.
Some consider the wave dial less subdued though... I like both of them :)
It's a very thin watch compared to watches today and the clasp is incredibly thin.
It's definitely thin compared to almost any other diver I have seen... although most others I have seen are automatic.
Not thin compared to other quartz watches.
what year did omega start to use c3 super luminova and what year are this model?
Probably when it was invented
@@PerthWAtch ohh that year nice
The original bond watch is the rolex submariner 36 mm
I believe you’re right sir. Sean Connery.
For the movies, yes.
In the novels, the original Bond watch was the Rolex Explorer (which was also worn by Cmdr Ian Fleming).
Have mine since 1998
That is long time
Which model of battery does it use? thanks!
Dunno - let me know what Google say
Is this the perfect beater watch? Would box & papers even matter.
Perfect beater? Hmm, that's difficult to say... for some perhaps. The box & papers may help a little with resale but ultimately don't matter so much.
Awesome review
Thanks
The watch is the highlight of the film.
I thought the highlight was Boromir
Nice watch! I have the 2018 which will be in bond 25.
Ah I envy you... that's the wave dial with in-house anti-magnetic master chronometer movement?
Yes sir!!
Could you make a comparison between this Omega and Invicta 9094?
Well I kinda did... check my Dive Watch Comparison across 5 Tiers video - it's the second one I ever posted on this channel :)
@@PerthWAtch I've seen the video. Is the Invicta 9094 a affordable alternative to the Seamaster?
Depends on your budget... for under $100 the Invicta 40mm Pro Divers are the best I know of.

Yeah man, long time ago!
@@PerthWAtch anyone know why Omega discontinued it? I don't think they make any quartz watches nowadays

Hi Ivan, great video, but was torcher for me, as it is my grail wat ch, maybe some day, my wife would not be too happy if spent $1000.00 on a watch, be well
Haha sorry to put you through the pain... hopefully something else will come along to tickle the fancy, and it won't be $4k (like the current Seamasters are!)...
its beautiful
Thank you :)
I need a large team of engineers to solve the alignment-problem of seconds hands on quartz movements. Apparently going to the moon is easier than just putting those things on straight. Whoever solves this is eligigble for a Nobel, undoubtedly.
Someone at Casio has done it a few years ago ;)
@@PerthWAtch To really get things done right, you need the Japanese...
For some things... for others the Europeans do a pretty good job :)
@@PerthWAtch Yes, we Europeans know a thing or two about a lot... It's 9:45 in Belgium. have a nicde day.
Hurts me each time second hand misses the mark.
Yeah, it seems that hitting the mark is an elusive achievement that modern science & engineering still struggles with!
It looked to me like the alignment was pretty good on the top half of the dial, and way off on the bottom half. A quirk of the movement? Or improper placement of the printed indices?
Probably just me moving the watch around and creating some parallax effect...
